this just opens http://talk.maemo.org/ in the microb browser
i like to open pages like this as it stops the 'bookmarks page' from also opening, and the icon is smaller on my desktop compared to a browser bookmark, and as im now running 9 desktops i figured i would fill them with loads of junk!!

put the 'maemo.org.desktop' file in /usr/share/applications/hildon
put the icon into /usr/share/icons/hicolor/64x64/hildon
(i use winscp for that)

How do you create the desktop file? Is is just a case of the name of the website then .desktop? So BBC would be bbc.co.uk.desktop? I am sure it can't be that easy. I am currently using 6 desktops but would love to switch to 7 if I could have one desktop with shortcuts to all my favourite websites.

It is really easy...
Copy the .desktop from me or leetut...
Change the http string and the names of the app and, icon and so on...
Pick a picture, edit and save it as png!

That's basically it

just use the ones uploaded here,
change the files name to BBC.desktop
or whatever you want
then inside the file replace the website address with the bbc url
and change the icon name to whatever you name your icon
and change the 'name' and 'comment' to whatever you like
(and it was brother 'dscobsct' that first showed me how to do it over at SF!)
(and rolan900d is our dad!)

do you know why the Loyds business shortcut gets replaced in the first desktop after a reboot?
I put it on desktop 4 but everytime it gets replaced...

i checked other .desktop files but they all look the same to me...

same for me mate, i just leave it in the menu, i thought it was just my phone causing it!
was really annoying too, maybe redoing it with a different name could fix it, but i aint got the time to try it at the moment

All of mine look the same in script, so it won't make sense to me.
check my sudo gainroot app in applications section Lee.

A few of my shortcuts keep appearing on a different desktop. I have had the same problem with sticky notes widget. Frustrating.

We still have no clue why this is!

I copied and edited the ones that actually remained in the right place..
That's how I fixed it

Thanks a ton for this Lee! I had come across this thread quite a while ago and just didn't have the time to dig in. So for the last two days I was searching for multiple combinations of bookmark, web shortcuts knowing I had seen this somewhere and was too stupid not to bookmark it.

This is super simple and is a billion times cleaner than a desktop full of web pages :-)

No issues with the shortcuts swapping desktops on me yet.
