PSGroove has been released today and i wondered if it would be at all possible for it to be ported/run on the N900 to allow homebrew for the ps3?
i have read somewhere on the net it may be possible using a custom kernal

I think this will be hard, we don't even have host mode so maybe this is more easy for the n8x0?

it has nothing to do with host mode, you even have to be in slave mode for this to work. we need to emulate an usbhub and send custom commands

You know him? Actually I haven't been on the PS3news or haxPS3 community for a while now after Sony blocked the OtherOS lol. I am hoping this Jailbreak thing can re-enable my OtherOS back. I spent countless hours on tethering that linux side.

yeah i remember now i also saw kakarotos on ps3news mentioning a possible kernel or something to enable this.
Hopefully this will be achievable using the N900s hardware :D

overclock it to 1.15 ghz, run media player, youtube, gpodder downloads, vimeo, app manager, video recording.....at the same time for 2 hours than take of the battery cover and put an egg there, it should cook it, just make sure u still have all these apps opennes when cooking the egg ;)
or just download a remote app like irreco and control stuff that can be controlled in your kitchen .
or, the simplest way, call for delivery !!
i'm sure there is a lots of mre ways.....

you guys are dumb, are you gonna be happy to run some app and have to plug the n900 into the ps3 every time you want to play it? just buy the $25 usb thing, way less hassle.

You don't know what that "thing" is, it is not surprising you don't understand. Less hassle? heh, this is the wrong place for that kind of thinking.. (Also, if/when sony plug this hole then just load a new exploit module the scene creates)

On a side note I like the fact that this exploit doesn't have a "backup manager" which means its all about homebrew and not piracy.
(can't someone make this thread turn into a piracy debate? That would be some original trolling)

dumb isn't a very strong insult, I'm sure you will get over it. lol.
I'm just pointing out it's not a good use of a skilled programmer's time to write an app that is "cool" but ultimately useless as the usb stick provides a much more convenient solution.
I'm just kind of defensive about people requesting stupid things. I think I explained why this seems stupid, but yes it's just my opinion. I work somewhere that computer programmers get paid a lot, so I am just saying this isn't a good use of a programmer's time. If he wants to do it anyways, great. But I hate to request and encourage people to work on things that are not going to be used. In fact it is quite possible that this cannot even be done, the exploit requires more control over the USB port than the operating system is likely to give.

I think that you are bit dumb. And it is one of those things you do because we can... And there will probably be CFW in near future to patch ps3 so that you won't need any dongle.

hah, nice try. i actually know what it is. I've read all of that yesterday and already bought a "TEENSY++" from the manufacturer of those. i called it a "thing" because there are several different compatible devices and none of them share a common name.
If you read this guy's blog, he's been working on this usb driver module code for quite a while, well before the PSGroove release, and would appreciate it if people stop harassing him for his "status" on IRC. Not that it would be any of you guys, right?

do you understand that you have to plug it back in every time you reboot? it doesn't permanently hack the ps3...

It makes the exploit just accessible to a broader range of people, and I think it's a good thing someone writes this driver/module for Linux-based gadgets. Not everyone has a Teensy board lying around, but if you happen to have a N900/N8x0/770 lying around, why not use it for this? It lowers the entry barrier (for users who already have a NIT-ish device). In the case of the N900, you might even be able to charge it while you are playing games.

The thing that worries me is that there's no real information about compilers, SDK, etc.. around that would help getting developers started writing homebrew (for the PS3). Right now, the only use for this *is* the Backup Manager - until some other software becomes available.

Yes I understand that, but I think it is not too much hassle since you have to power ps3 on from the unit anyway and not from the controller. And I assume there will be custom firmware within 2 months so I have to plug my N900 to ps3 for about 20-30... So I save an euro in every boot. :D

yeah hmm i forgot even with the usb dongle THING you have to hit eject within 200ms or something, i guess no matter what I have to get off the couch for now :(
you guys need to remember that the exploit at this stage gives access to the game OS or whatever they call it, not the PS3 kernel. They need to find another exploit to even have the ability to install a permanent replacement firmware (please don't refer to it as CFW, that's a PSP term). So my point is there is absolutely no reason to think that the PS3 can be fully rooted any time soon, unless you are confident that there are more bugs to exploit in their device architecture. The kernel is running on an isolated hardware environment (SPU), so it isn't supposed to be possible to do this. Hopefully, there are some more bugs, and the increased attention brings them to light. But I'm not holding my breath.

It fails after sending the descriptors - for some odd reason. Unable to get passed this on 3.41 with the N900. Beagleboard is a different story. I assum HAL and BME are tying up the driver from releasing and letting the userspace take over to deliver the payload.

Using an OMAP3 beagleboard and 3.15 - payload delivery is successful, but execution fails - because it's not 3.41

Quick update,

Payload delivery and successful execution has been completed by a Palm Pre. Successful PS3 jailbreak from a slaved Pre. N900 is next. Will report back once I confirm it's working.

Also, this has nothing to do with Kakaroto's work - which is just about done as I understand it. His is done through usb gadget, this is done completely through userspace are unbinding the driver.

First of all, you can dump, as patches to that were released as well
Second, is that this ps3j on n900 is interesting as concept and even u are gonna paly games like that, it wouldn't be hard to have cable in PS3 and as your phone always on you, just connect it when u turn on system
