Failed catalogue: maemo.org Extras. "Sub-process gzip returned an error code."

Hi all,

got an n900 on T-mobile UK running PR 1.2.

I get a failed catalogues message on:
maemo.org
maemo Extras

There are a few apps listed, but i presume they are the Ovi store ones.

what is the <easy> way to get the phone working as it should again?

cheers

Those two should be the same thing anyway, so you can probably delete one of them. You'll need to check on why the catalogue is failing - in App Manager, tap on the title bar and select "Application catalogues" from the menu. Select a catalogue marked with a red X and see what error is reported.

I have just the maemo.org repository. the error is

Sub-process gzip returned an error code (1)

Is there something I am missing?

sub-process gzip returned an error code (1)

rogeralcantara 2010-09-28 11:30

Re: Failed catalogues - how to re-enable them?

i tried to refresh the catalogues list... once again maemo.org was not updated... but this time some of the apps in extras appeared... tried to do a refresh and they all went away again... something must indeed be wrong with the repo.

Re: when refreshing , maemo's catalouge is unavailable....why ??

Just try again after a couple of minutes, that usually helps.

the 1.2 repository is being closed due to tomorrow's pr1.3 update, so you get the error...

I know you were joking, but did you know the pr1.3 repository actually exists in preparation for PR1.3? :)

http://repository.maemo.org/extras/dists/fremantle-1.3/

And t is not broken the way 1.2 repo is at the moment.

Maemo Extras failing for me as well, is anyone actually fixing this issue?

ahodge 2010-09-28 17:10

Re: Failed catalogue: maemo.org Extras. "Sub-process gzip returned an error code."

As a total hack, I tried adding a new catalogue:
Catalogue name: Extras
Web address: http://repository.maemo.org/extras/
Distribution: fremantle-1.3
Components: free non-free

and disabled the old extras. The app manager finds all the files and updates I would expect, and no more error. But I have no idea what could go wrong if I try to install apps from here. Do any of you know whether it should be OK. My guess is that the 1.2 repo will be back soon

Probably not. Fill bug report. Still it works for me.

Re: Failed catalogue: maemo.org Extras. "Sub-process gzip returned an error code."

Does anyone know how I could delete the built in Maemo repository and reinstall it? that worked for the extras, testing, and devel repos, just not the original Maemo. When I select the Maemo catalog, I don't get an option to delete the catologue like the other ones? Can someone please help me with this?
As I said, it worked for the other ones. Thanks

Re: Failed catalogue: maemo.org Extras. "Sub-process gzip returned an error code."

Jayboy: Best I could do was just disable it using the check box. Alternatively, I guess you could try to edit the apt sources list manually (in /etc/apt) but the list might just get re-created by the package manager.
