Plz help, alternate charging method?
 

Hi, my name is Andre, and I have a dilemma. My usb port broke on my n900. I got the green light to send it in for repair. However, I was wondering if there was a alternate way of charging it. I.e, through the 3.5mm jack by chance? The phone died before I could xfer my info to the memory card and I really need to access it. Any feedback is greatly appreciated.. Thanks again.

well, maybe you can find a friend with a similar phone to charge the battery, or borrow theirs.

Yes!!. Sad part is, none of my friends have a n900 or anything similar. Is there a standalone charger for the battery?

By "phone died before I could xfer my info to the memory card" do you mean the battery was empty?
Or was N900 really broken?

I bought a second BL-5J battery which would probably help in this case if it was only the emtpy batt.

Battery empty. I apologize for the misunderstanding. However, I've found the stand alone chargers on ebay. All it took was a little nudge, and light bulb influence from you guys!! :P Thanks a lot.

I searched for a desktop charger and found only
non Nokia ones like this one:

I asked Nokia support about standalone charger/desktop charger.
They told me that there is none from Nokia.

Unfortunately, I highly doubt that they were telling the truth. I went on ebay and searched for Nokia BL-5J standalone charger and got results. Below is a link to one of them.. :)

out-of-left field suggestions.. I saw some induction type(which may still need some attachment to the phone) charger. However, a while ago, I also saw an inductive charger, for the Wii remote, where it does not appear to need any attachment -- for that package the manufacturer also provides a set of battery, may be they customized it with some additional h/w in that battery.

the next best thing would be the ebay BL-5J battery/clone charger

one option would be buying another battery, those should have about 50% charge when bought. but those chargers are probably cheaper.

This may be a little a little on the pricey side but it is said to charge anything that can fit in your pocket...

Certainly cheaper than getting your phone repaired and a lot less hassle than removing the battery every evening. You may be able to find a better deal on the fleebay.

Scratch that, I have just looked into these and they are not getting great reviews. NIce proof of concept though.

You need a 2mm charger though...
