Yahoo messenger on Nokia N900

Nokian900 users, All of a sudden my Yahoo messenger does not sign in, I tried to mess with it for a while but to no avail. even on my Pidgin internet I can not get it to connect. I still can use Skype and MSN Haze but no longer messenger. I used to use it alot to communicate with my people. does anyone know how to get this back to work on my Nokia n900. I would really appreciate any help. Thanks in advance folks!!

Re: Yahoo messenger on Nokia N900

I don't regularly use yahoo messenger, but I'll test this if the opportunity comes. A while back Google (on Gmail specifically) and Facebook both did things where they redirected you to mobile versions of their sites from the N900 - they both stopped soon after, but still. The N900's Yahoo Messenger client may now be being treated the same way by Yahoo, expect in a completely "ignore"/"don't accept connections from it" way instead of mere redirecting. The N900 user-base is certainly perceived as being small enough by the general public for them to conceivably to be dicks like that.

I would get as many people as you can to check from N900s. See if you can connect through WiFi and 3G, or if both give the same error. Then see if you can connect to it through the browser directly (surely yahoo messenger has an online version you can use). Report results. If they are consistent across many users, or become consistent over the next week or so, then it's Yahoo's doing. If not, it's something on your end, or in between, or a temporary problem there.

Using pidgin works fine with wifi at my home. I read this thread and fire up pidgin and it works. so try again :) maybe there is a problem with yahoo.

Since total reflashed with PR1.2 (and now on 1.3, not updated from 1.1), the Yahoo Messenger has stopped working for me using Extra Protocol Plugins (which installs Pidgin Protocols Plugin).

It worked partially only after installation, it could connect and could receive IM but I couldn't see the contact list, I have read somewhere it's due to some change in the firmware but seems it hasn't been updated to work around that.
Once disocnnected, it would fail everytime in connecting. I have to delete and add account to make it connect again everytime. So. I gave up on using Yahoo.
Same after I reflashed with PR1.3

MSN (Pecan), Skype and others are still working great. I'm on T-Mobile US BTW.

You can install Extra Protocols for Conversations which will add Yahoo, MSN and some others, they will be integrated just like the built-in Google and Skype in the Conversation widget, no need to run a separate app like pidgin.
The yahoo has stopped working for me since PR 1.2, the MSN(Pecan) is still working great

All you need to do is remove the the scsa.msg.yahoo.com from the server. Leave that blank and say 'Done'. Save or just Sign in.
Settings-->Voip and IM accounts --> Select your Yahoo account --> Advanced settings --> Under server, remove the scsa.msg.yahoo.com--> Click 'Done'.
From Avinash yahoo answer

Hmm. I don't see the server field under Advanced settings. I also have this problem using Conversations, but I am normally able to log in after I delete my password and re-entering it.

Re: Yahoo messenger on Nokia N900

extra protocol for conversation and contact was sometime oftenly disconnected and reconnect. this makes yahoo think i'm a hacker tried to breach my own account. then the yahoo server blocks my yahoo login account for some time due to security reason. during this time, i couldn't logon to yahoo messenger by anymeans(ebuddy, pidgin, conversations) except from yahoo messenger app itself or via yahoo website. so anyone know why its oftenly reconnects?

Re: Yahoo messenger on Nokia N900

With the Conversation plugin for Yahoo the Port number (originally 5050) and Xfer Port (originally 80) keep disappearing after signing out and trying to resign in. These settings are in the Advanced menu, only available when you sign out. When I reset that to the original values everytime, Yahoo can sign in again. I would however rather have that it worked out of the box. Can someone give me a hint on how to do that or can the maintainer of that yahoo conversation plugin jump in and maybe fix the problem? It would be great, no doubt.

measaura 2011-08-18 05:53

Re: Yahoo messenger on Nokia N900

Try changing Port setting from 5050 to 80. Sometimes these ports are blocked at the ISP side for some reason. Port 80 is the common HTTP port and it will always be open.

This works for me.

end2begin 2011-08-18 07:04

Re: Yahoo messenger on Nokia N900

I know what you mean. I however meant somethign different.

Port 5050 and Xfer 80 are the right settings for Yahoo Messenger on Maemo. However the problem is after signing out these settings get lost/messed up. If you want to sign in again (say you lost wifi connection and then it gets in range of a wifi connection again) Yahoo cannot sign in because the Port and Xfer numbers are wrong. Then you ahve to manually set them again to 5050 for the Port and for tje Xfer to 80. After having done that Yahoo signs in again without any problem.

So somewhere within the Yahoo Messenger plugin for Conversations on Maemo there is something going wrong, which screws up the port numbers.......

i tried everything but now i saw something in my mobile when i try pidgin its ask for certifcate then i saw the date is old 2009 in my n900 so i changed the date in mobile to now 2011 then its work fine,,,see if ur mobile date is right or not and lets see

the setting i use is

port : 5050

xfer host : filetransfer.msg.yahoo.com

xfer port : 80

end2begin 2011-08-22 15:46

Re: Yahoo messenger on Nokia N900

If I use those settings you give it works. But if I logout out of Yahoo and relogin, those settings you give there have been changed. If I put them back to the settings you have given there, I can login again. The date is current on my phone. The problem is that when I logout of yahoo the settings for the Port and xfer port somehow get corrupted. I am the only one that has this problem?

My setting are correct too, but i'm unable to connect. fix tips?

for now, i'm using Pidgin app. . is better, popups, and many more features...;)

-----------
Back again:

SOLVED!:

1. i change the date to 2011 (i'm not sure if this is vital)
2. i connect to internet via GSM
3. yahoo messenger is now functional.
4. i changed the date back to 2013 and i uncheck the box "update automatically" (GSM network date and time update)
3. log off from yahoo voip (click offline button)
4. reconnect internet via wireless
5 log on again (click online button)
6.Done

IF "wrong username or password" pop-up appears. Complete only the ID! Is appears again, put back "@yahoo.com"

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

tips for facebook and skype chat:
----------------------------
Facebook chat setup:

Username: *yourusername@chat.facebook.com
Password : ******** (your facebook pass)
Screen Name: Name (from your facebook account)

* yourusername = go to facebook (on your pc) and select the little "gear" icon from the right-top of facebook page > account settings > general account. Username is for example mathew >> from http://www.facebook.com/mathew

Screen name: is the first name of your facebook acount (let the box empty and complete the sentence if faceboook voip is not working)

so in this case : mathew@chat.facebook.com
------------------
skype setup: simple as possible

Skype name: yourskypename
pass: *********
