This seems to be an old video. I think WP7 does have a lot of potential and am looking forward to getting a WP7 device myself around the holidays.

But I agree that microb is really something... Hopefully, by the mid next year, WP7 will also have upgraded to be a clear contender for one of the top 3 OSs.

does not look better.

See index 4:27 and how the phone gets stuck with
engadget.com.
The presenter has to kill the download.
:D

I just tested engadget.com with N900: approx 6 times faster even with 3G (not 3.5G!).

only thing amusing was one comment:
"androids screen rotation is probably faster because there is no transition animations"

such a sherlock....not

"Browser seems good."

His credibility just fell in Hell... IE7 is a joke on whatever platform it can run on.

All new operating systems are intressting and microsoft will probably beat nokia to the market.

windows 7 vs meego 1-0

so far windows 7 leads...so, so far meego is the joke.

Depends. I generally find operating systems interesting but what MS has planned for WP7 kills my interest, specifically the push to have iProduct-like lock down.

microsoft lacks leadership just as nokia do, so i don't think they will win anything. they both fail big time for now.

Were you actually expecting Microsoft not to copy what Apple did two years ago?

I like the OS, totally dislike the stock browser. I'm waiting on Firefox 4 Beta to be announced for it - just like it has been announced on Android & Maemo 5.

To be honest, I dislike the Android stock browser too, use Dolphin HD instead.

MicroB is still "tops" at the moment in my book. But WP7 seems to get more right than wrong - that's something I thought I'd never say.

I wouldn't hold my breath. They've said they won't until a NDK is released.

You got it all wrong. MeeGo is Intel, Nokia is just on for the ride. Nokia is selling more phones than ever.

Symbian^3 and soon Symbian^4 is Nokias main OS. Why is that so hard to get into your heads? There is nothing in the real world that suggests that Symbian will not be the largest OS out there for the next 5 years. Maemo/Nokia-MeeGo is a small fish, targeted for mobile computers.

Re: Windows Phone 7: what a joke

I watched the first half of the video.

Looks like the only thing they have done better than Maemo5 is make transitions a bit faster, and add multi-touch for zooming.
Not to mention, 6 tabs at once max? MicroB can do that, and more! Flash & HTML5? Doable.

Also, no multi-tasking? Gees.
I mean, if, on my N900, I can run frigging -runescape-(which maxes the CPU, uses a lot of ram, etc), then go and browse the internet while its running(and still have decent performance), a newer device ought to be able to do more than -that-!
However, it seems Micro$oft is following in the footsteps of Apple - How are they gonna get any market share out of that? "shiny and 'just works'" is already taken by apple; Do MS -really- think they can do better?

Silly.

It may be a small fish, but it will be playing in a very, very high profile market.

I don't think so. High profile is the E-series, like the E7 soon to come. There isn't any higher profile than that, unless we are talking gold-plated and stuff.

MeeGo is for mobile computers; For Nokia this means tablets (probably) and high end "geek devices" with more emphasis on computer and raw power than functional (and usable) phone capabilities.

When I see an E-series device from Nokia running MeeGo, I will change my mind :) But not untill then.

I don't see anyone putting the E7 up in the same tier as the Droid 2, Droid X, iPhone 4, and the Galaxy S devices. They will put whatever MeeGo devices Nokia releases up against them, however.

At best, E series devices (unless the specs are beefed up quite a bit) will end up paired against lower end Android devices. Easy way to tell: what CPU it uses. If it's ARM11 or lesser, it's low profile. If it's OMAP3 or better, high profile until the OMAP4 comes out.

This is 100% geek-talk, what device has most HP. Didn't you read my post?

Obviously you're not paying attention. Maybe you think like Nokia does, if so I can see why they missed the boat on a lot of things.

High horsepower devices ARE the high profile devices. The iPhone 4 is no slouch. Galaxy S, Droid, HTC's better phones, they're all high profile devices competing over the same market that MeeGo devices will.

It's because of those devices that people are saying Nokia is falling behind. Not because of the mid to low end, where margins become thin and no one pays attention. It's the high end that Apple cracked. That got average people buying handsets that actually had performance.

Nokia won't even pretend to be putting Symbian up against them unless they put an OMAP3 or better in them, and I don't believe they will, at least not until the OMAP3 is second tier.

From a geek perspective you are somewhat right, but also wrong. The Broadcom GPU of the Symbian^3 devices is faster than anything else out there, both in 3D/2D and for video and for still pictures. You don't need a fast processor to run 3D and video, you only need a good GPU.

The big money for Android is the mid to low end. Just wait and see the market shares coming up for this years last months and next years first months. SE will be the most selling Android phone manufacturer with their X10 mini and X8 (and more coming). This is where the money is, and this is first priority for Nokia with the C6-01 this year, and a whole portfolio next year.

The other big market is Business. Former WinMo territory, now RIM. RIM is the real high end. High quality no nonsense devices that does the job. This is also where the E series is.

The real big money is in low end. At the other end is geek-stuff, Today it is only Samsung that makes Money here, with Galaxy S. Motorola is as good as dead, Palm is dead, and HTC is making so many different devices with equal specs in this miniscule market segment that they compete only with themselves. All of them are waiting for WinMo7 so they can produce high end devices, mainly for business segment, that isn't attacked from behind by their own mid Android phones.

And the iPhone. A geek toy that is untouchable today, but that will gradually loose interest.

Well, since Android itself is crap, it's not that hard to be better than Android... :D
