[ANNOUNCE] Homescreen selector widget
 

I've made another homescreen selector widget
The difference is that this one shows all active desktops backgrounds

It's only for Matan's modified hildon-desktop (up to 9 desktops)

i was just trying out the Desire and the one thing i thought was neat was being able to select any desktop from whichever you're on. I'll try this now, any known issues?

Thanks. I have been wanting something like this from day one and was on the verge of writing something for it myself. So, truth be told, I think I should also thank you on behalf of my girlfriend, who already thinks I spend too much time playing with my N900...

For me it works perfectly. Tapping a screen switches to that screen. But settings also don't work (I just don't know even what to configure. Probably the size?)

How did you install? I downloaded on firefox and clicked 'open' but appmanager wouldn't install it. I did it manually through devels and it installed but like i said, just won't do anything

doesn't work on my n900

already tried restarting the n900

my n900 is running titan kernel v40, mohammadAG hildon desktop fixes, plastic theme and transition control
could one of the above causes the selector not working on my n900?

Do i have to adjust something? It doesn't work for me.... I can't edit the settings and there's no result when i click on the homescreens.

This is great and thanks ... I now have control over my screens without opening my keypad...

for the people that might not Know you can switch fast between screens via Arrow keys on your Keypad..

Hmmm well I use Titan's Kernel 40 , I don't use " Custom task-switcher" That could the problem ! There might be a conflict between the two app's..

I´m afraid I need to report back that it does not work on mine either. with Titan´s kernel and Mohammed´s Hildon Desktop installed.

Actually, it shouldn't affect this. That patch only modifies couple of lines in the code that is not related to the virtual desktops.

looks awesome, just wish the media player widget 'play button' would work with matan's modified-hildon-desktop (cos for me it dont)

I dunno how some people got this program to work, but on my n900 when I run gconftool-2 -s /apps/osso/hildon-desktop/views/current -t int 1
I need to either restart hildon-desktop or reboot the phone. This is the command that program executes when you click on the icon.(last digit is different for each)

The way this widgets changes the current view
can not work with the standard hildon-desktop.

The standard hildon-desktop does not listen to gconf changes
for the current view.

Matan modified hildon-desktop to listen for this key.

My own desktop switch widget works different. It fakes the
swipe gesture to change the view.

Thanks Nicolai. I was wondering why that didn´t work, the gconf changes I mean. I had tried those earlier, to no avail.

Could you elaborate a bit on the way you got it working?

By the way does this automatically place the widget on each of your desktops or do you manually add it to each desktop on which you want the widget? Would prefer the option to select which desktops have the widget because I have one desktop which just won't have space for the widget and I love the layout of that desktop and would not want to change it.

@etuoyo: you have to place widget on every desktop seperately. I also like this behaviour very much as I can place it on every desktop where it fits and don't have to rearrange all other symbols around this one.

I'm using modified hildon as well as modified desktop, together with enhanced kernel #40 and widget works perfectly!

actually i'm not ! , its working great for me with mAG's modified hildon-desktop.
and btw i have titan's 37 (i think), the one in maemo.org, is the 40 better ? what are the differences ??

So, you are running Titan's 37 and itś working for you? I run 40, and it's not.

I am getting slightly confused now, as Nicolai's info seems to suggest that the stock kernel as well as Titan's do not listen to gconf changes. OP has not reported back (I think) about whether or not he is using that specific method. I would love to get this to work.

I can't tell Elie, as I have not OC'd untill the 40 had been out for quite some time. First I didn't want to ruin my warranty, and than I got so fed up with slow apps and windows that I installed it after all. But what surprised me is that Nicolai stated Titan's kernel (s?) is or are not listening to gconf changes while you state this widget works for you. A couple of weeks ago I tried these gconf initiations a couple of times, but they did not work. So, to me, that sounded like a possible explanation.

This morning I tried the desktop switcher widget that Nicolai provided, and that one does work. Nicolai has, however, not answered my question yet, to what he did to achieve these results.

Nevertheless, I would like to see this widget work on my machine, as the functionality is a bit different from Nicolai's, and more suitable to my needs.

i can reporte its working with both matan's and mAG's modified hildon-desktops together, with titan's kernel installed.

Well I tried it on titan's version 40 kernel and mohammad's modified-hildon desktop and it does not work.
The widget shows up on the desktop but on pressing the different desktops it does nothing but just highlight that particular desktop.:confused:

This package needs Matan's modified-hildon-desktop.
Kernel version doesn't matters.
