[Announce] opensubtitles will be switched to Periscope port
Update from 2010-10-20:
This project will be closed (or expanded) as there is another more advanced project Periscope that will be ported (I hope): http://code.google.com/p/periscope/issues/detail?id=47 This is a port of nautilus script for easy subtitles download. To get subtitles you just need to select a file [and language]. Also usable in CLI - exec it with filename as the first argument. Test it ;) |
Re: [Announce] opensubtitles is in extras-devel
1. What was that package which added subtitles support to native media player?
2. If someone knows where to find list of all acceptable language codes for opensubtitles API, please show it. 3. Do we need multiple file selection? |

SMplayer has integrated support for downloading subtitles also, but I don't find it usable yet.

Re: [Announce] opensubtitles is in extras-devel
hoping this is gonna be much better than Subtitles Support

Re: [Announce] opensubtitles is in extras-devel
int_ua, thanks for you effort.
I tried opensubtitles now for the first time (with PC and N900), but search results are very poor. Is it possible to make search app for this site - podnapisi.net, which is in my opinion much better. The site provides combined and separate search for movies and serials. |
Re: [Announce] opensubtitles is in extras-devel
Or would it be possible for us to choose our own sites, from where to search the subtitles online?
|
Re: [Announce] opensubtitles is in extras-devel
It's all possible, but just a matter of time.
If those sites do provide API for search and download it can be done much more quickly and stable. For opensubtitles API see here: http://trac.opensubtitles.org/projec...es/wiki/XMLRPC If they don't it's still theoretically possible to parse HTML and break CAPTCHA, but doesn't worth it ;) At the moment I'm finishing rewriting this script into python class so it can be reused by developers of other media-related projects. Post here links to subtitle APIs and we'll see what can be done. And another nota bene: this python script can still be used even in nautilus on desktop. Just test it and say if I didn't break anything :] |
Re: [Announce] opensubtitles is in extras-devel
And don't forget that someone still has to upload those subtitles ;)

EDIT: If you need translation, I can help about it. I'm not translator, nor my English is perfect, but still I could be of some use. Content is in Slovenian. |

But I just found this project: http://code.google.com/p/periscope/ It parses HTML too :) The only problem is that it says python has to be 2.6 Will try to run. |
Re: [Announce] opensubtitles is in extras-devel
Another announce: this project will be closed because there is more advanced project Periscope that might be ported to Maemo really soon =)

Re: [Announce] opensubtitles is in extras-devel
Hi,
I'm the developer of periscope mentioned by int_ua in his last post. I'll make the changes needed to make it run on my n810. But as I don't own a n900 (and don't really plan to buy one), I won't be able to do the integration with existing media app (except maybe for MediaBox which runs on the n810 as well). I hope someone (int_ua with the help of the code in Subtitles Support maybe) will be able to do that integration work. |
