Apps after PR 1.3 update
Hey guys i was just wondering; after the update, did the phone permanently delete all of my installed apps? or did it just hide it or something?
and if it did delete all of my apps, which i don't really mind, did it free my installed apps memory? after the update i only had 1.8gb. is that the standard size after the update? i wouldn't want the update to just hide my old apps, and let it build up and waste my installed apps memory space.. |
Re: Apps after PR 1.3 update
Did you flash via PC or update OTA?
|
Re: Apps after PR 1.3 update
1. how did you update
2. give more information 3. give more information 4. give more information sorry, we can't read your mind here. |
Re: Apps after PR 1.3 update
I did via OTA, and nothing been lost. Everything is as it is except some applications where working on Pr1,2 now not working on PR1.3...

@ armand360
Then yes, all your 'user memory' had been wiped. If you made a backup just prior to update, it is as simple as restore that. |
Re: Apps after PR 1.3 update
i did a backup, but all it did was show me a list of all my apps that i have to redownload. which is okay with me. when you say 'user memory had been wipe', did it permanently delete all of it? like there's nothing left behind? don't really like the idea of old files stacking up..

Re: Apps after PR 1.3 update
I had to update via PC.
I did make a backup before. The update wiped my phone completely. I start to restore the backup, and after maybe 15 minutes of restoring file it PC Suite tells me that "Due to lack of space in the phone memory the following files were copied to your PC..." And it's a never ending list of files, mostly music and photos. But where the hell are all my apps? Also, I open file manager on the phone and it says no files or folders found... EDIT: Now I can see and restore all my files and apps... I was mad there for a moment. Nokia needs to make this a little more user friendly. |
Re: Apps after PR 1.3 update
@Armand360 Are you checking your space with Conky?

Re: Apps after PR 1.3 update
I did my update with "apt-get upgrade"
It worked fine. (It stopped because there was not enough memory. But after a restart of the update with "dpkg" everything went fine.) I had to do anothether "apt-get upgrade" for some special applications. |

so now you have to restore the apps from backup (with HAM) and voila, your custom preferences and settings are still intact. |
Re: Apps after PR 1.3 update
Here's a weird one.
It appears that I can't add or delete anything but wireless connections in Settings in the Internet Connections area. I have something I called GPRS ipv6 (that's the name I gave the connection) and one called T-Mobile Internet. When I highlight either of them, Delete is grayed out. If I try to add a new connection, I can choose Wireless but not GPRS. I don't think this was the case before I updated. My connection with the label I created, GPRS ipv6, won't work today. It was working yesterday. |

Re: Apps after PR 1.3 update
Actually, for my understanding, that was Nokia N900 software version 20.2010.36-2, not PR1.3?! Is that true?

Re: Apps after PR 1.3 update
lol at quoting wikipedia as a reliable source of information, you do realize that anyone can put anything on wikipedia right? the edits are even done by someone from the USA, so in all likelyhood not by someone at nokia

Re: Apps after PR 1.3 update
)ust a thought, most of the screw ups seem to be user issues rather than software or hardware. Is there anyway to keep the update instructions on the active topics of the forum during the duration of maemo update (bout a week or so) to help out the noobs?
Thanks. |

Second, if the quotes from Wikipedia weren't true, they would be deleted from the article quickly, by anybody who would know that the information isn't true. Encyclopedia looks like a reliable source of information, even if it is Wikipedia. Quote:
1. set up USB Networking (I don't want to flash and erase all the information), with Ubuntu, as I'm too lazy to set it up with Windows; Read N900 USB Networking in wiki. http://wiki.maemo.org/N900_USB_networking 1.1. type "ifup usb0"; it should say "already configured"; 1.2. type "ping 192.168.2.15"; if it cannot ping, type "ifconfig usb0 192.168.2.15"; 1.3. type "ping <some local IP of your LAN>"; if it cannot ping, type "route add default gw 192.168.2.14"; 1.4. type "ping google.com"; if it cannot ping, check that your LAN can ping google.com. 1.5 try to set up a dummy network; browser can see the web, Dummy is listed in Internet Connections in Settings, but HAM still cannot see the web because Dummy isn't in the list of suggested connections; 2. apt-get update; 3. apt-get upgrade; 4. apt-get install mp-fremantle-generic-pr; 5. by now you have run out of space, haven't you? 6. apt-get autoremove, apt-get clean, df -h /; 7. try "apt-get -f install mp-fremantle-generic-pr" or something else, don't remember exactly; 8. Success: you can see this line: Setting up mp-fremantle-generic-pr (20.2010.36-2) 9. Reboot to see new version in About. 10. Contacts and most settings and installed application are intact. Except transitions.ini and unlocked FM transmitter. If /etc/mce/mce.ini (including LED patterns) was modified, you would be asked whether you want to update it or not; you can make a backup and then update it to the new version (as you don't have diff, you cannot see the differences between your and new versions). I don't see much immideate improvements; I'm going to change transitions.ini again and return LED patterns. I'm glad that the update improves battery life and speed in general. There are about fifty bugs fixed? |
Re: Apps after PR 1.3 update
there may be 50 bugs (so they claim) corrected ...but i would guess there are about 100 more bugs created by this update..this update is a disgrace.

And Wikipedia articles should be sourced and should be fairly reliable. And the assumption that anything posted by someone from Nokia would be totally reliable is of course false. |
