PR 1.3 LITTLE changes with HUGE DISAPPOINT!!!
 

I just updated to the lates PR 1.3 and guess what??
all my hopes to see actual change went away :eek:
- NO Navigation?!, is it really so hard to provide such option in Maps application? :confused:
-NO Video Call support!! :mad:
i didnt even notice any change in options that make me feel that this is the waited for update,
simply i feel like i didnt update or am i missing something? :mad:

Well if you think that adding turn by turn voice navigation to the Maps application should be easy, then please do it and share.


And what do you mean no Video Call support? I've been using Skype Video calls from my N900's native dialer application to Desktop Skype users for months now. Get a clue.

Where were either of these things promised? I don't see the problem with PR1.3 update. The only gripe I had with PR1.2 has been fixed. Sygic does voice navigation pretty well, and despite lots of my mates having phones that support videocalling, none of them use it.

Why?

Because it's utterly pointless. It's expensive (in the UK at least) and poor quality.

the bug-update also missed the "toaster" option which was highly awaited by me. i did read somwhere in these forums that you could use N900 with new update as an toaster. Now my N900 is melting in real toaster and im missing the update. ;)

It's a Linux open source phone!!!!

We don't need Nokia to provide updates - we can do it ourselves!!!

Personally I'm waiting for MeeGo to appear on the scene - hopefully all N900 apps will work on MeeGo and it will be a simple switch.

plus I prefer rpm's vs debs.

I was at a conference lately and the gtalk videoconferencing on the n900 was super useful to me. I was able to video chat with my wife and daughter over the conference wifi without having to haul my laptop around with me...

Probably wouldn't try it without wifi, though...

well I won't argue with you there, it did sound like I was brown nosing. but let me explain:

It was the guy's first post. so what I see here is someone who CREATED an account to complain about the update. can you spell TROLL?

secondly, if the updates on the home page of maemo.org don't explain that the update is mostly bug fixing and preparation for dual booting, than maybe the 3 or 4 threads on the right hand "Active topics" will.

This guy just swoops in, makes an account, and whines like a loose pully belt on an old chevy. No research at all.

I'm gonna go to www.iphone.com and ask what the IOS 4.0 update did, because it obviously doesn't run windows apps yet. I know nothing about what IOS 4.0 does, I'm just gonna randomly post without research.

with nokias dismal support track record on the n900 - i find it hard to believe that any sane person could have high expectations for n900 updates.

so u r either trolling - totally new or just plain naive. either way get a dose of reality - big updates r not going to come from nokia.

I am not complaining i was presenting my own personal point of view, i dont think we are talking about research for a post jeopardizing Nokia's market share in tablets??

those are begging to have meego in thier n900s will cry if it is officially released without n900 support, yet nothing was promised about this

it is all about expectations
if Sygic could make turn by turn navigation that works on n900 this mean that it is possible

I agree. PR1.3 is a colossal disappointment for me as well.

1. The AI sucks big time. The phone is still unable to guess what I want without me telling him everything explicitly.
2. No ponies!!! I really expected this update to come with a support for a pony, and it didn't happen!!!!!!!!!!!1111
3. No time travel. C'mmon people, how hard can it be to add support for time travel?

This is nothing like what I expected, and I am huge dissapoint too. Shame on you, Nokia!

To the few of you who leapt on this post and abused the OP: you are without question worse than "TROLLS", there is no excuse for that kind of language or behaviour towards other people. This is especially so as this forum has a strong multi-language user base! What you perceive from high thrones to be "WHINING" and "COMPLAINING" and "WAAAAAHHH" and "TROLLING" (and so on!) can often be a pure lack of grasp on the finer points of English and the tone therein of one's writing.

If you don't like what someone says and have nothing mature or constructive to say, just say nothing... move on and read something else. If you don't keep posting these things, threads which you so vehemently despise will not grow so long, won't keep up at the top of the most recent posts list and will vanish! Or, they will keep on being "TROLLED" but because you're a mature adult you'll have turned the other cheek and won't be wasting your time looking at it.

To those guilty of what I'm talking about here, I can only hope that for every time you speak to and treat someone like this on this or any other forum, someone in a real life situation does it to and see how much you like it - preferably someone you can't talk back to, to equate to the ganging up that you all do.

It is YOU people who make this forum an unpleasant place to use, not the supposed "TROLLERS!"

like using the fron camera, have the navigation turn by turn just like other handsets supported

yeah......this sucks and nokia should be ashamed of what they have done....i said yesterday that this update is a disgrace....firstly i was called a whinger by some muppet in here and then a complainer....i agree with the complainer bit and i have good reasons.....were is the flash upgrade?....no where to be seen....bugs are now a plenty....i have waited a year for the media player bug to be sorted and now it is worse.....tarcks do not play if you select next track.... buggy as hell now with constant crashes....oh nokia you really are taking the p*** with this update....i am really really pist off with this crap that they have given us all....fcam is now messed up and my media does not play anymore.....jeeez wat the hell has nokia done?

apart from the obvious flash requirement we now have an extremley buggy phone thanks to the nokia muppets who released this pile of crap.....have you checked out how buggy it has now become?

How has it became buggy? Outdated due to developers artifically making Flash 10 required yes. But buggy?

I voted that it's as expected since I didn't have high expectations. I just expected bug fixes and QT 4.7 which is what we got. Any one who had higher expectations were just setting themselves up for disapointment (as it has been clearly pointed out over and over).

The one where a bug-fixing firmware upgrade is something different from a feature upgrade, and where Nokia have repeatedly indicated that they are not going to update formally upddate Flash whether as part of a firmware update or as a seperate release.

I understand that not having Flash 10.1 is frustrating - I miss it myself, particularly earlier this evening when I wanted take quick look at Google Streetview (really must install the Flash tweak tool) - but at no point have Nokia indicated that any significant upgrade of Flash would be included in Pr1.3. Indeed, they have fairly much stated that Flash 10.1 is never going to be formally made available for Maemo 5.

I love the update......the UI is so much smoother.....as good as iphone....and for some reason my web pages have better clarity. LOVE IT!
