What the ****?

Anyone found a way to recover your hard work yet?

Although i'd be happy to replay such a great game especially as there is no new levels on the horizon, i worked my *** off getting some amazing scores and 3 starrin every level.

I think the OTA update does not mess around with the scores. If you did it through NSU, then it completely reinstalls the OS.

I updated through OTA and I still have all my scores. Back in PR 1.2, phone got messed up and I had to clean install and it erased all my 3 stars in each level :((

There's nothing you can do if you flashed your device with NSU or OVI suite.

I updated OTA and my scores ares still intact. This does not help you at all, but I think it was not PR1.3. Sorry to read that man.

Same thing happened with PR1.2. It is the fault of Rovio who stores the save data in the wrong place and it does not get backed up. It is lost when you flash your phone. Sorry.

Thanks for the answers. I have in the past always updated OTA, the reason i didn't this time was because it didn't seem to want to let me... said i HAD to use the pc suite!

Least i know for next time.....

i don't think you can recover the score.

It's not the PR1.3 fault but Rovio's, what's the point of placing the save files in /var/ instead of ~/ ?

Had to reinstall all level packs and lost all my 3 star scores and all golden eggs.

Yeah, my scores were completely reset too. Now I have to start over again. Frustrating. Especially after I paid $1 for the extra levels.

Because as I explained this earlier (http://talk.maemo.org/showpost.php?p=800593) , as far as I, and the Filesystem Hierarchy Standard, know /var/opt/ *is* the right place for placing variable data for packages in /opt/ hierarchy.

I was pointed out the osso_backup registeration which I have implemented already and will come out in the next update. But guess what, I still lost my progress when updating to PR1.3 using Ovi Suite. Apparently it doesn't know anything about osso backup...

I'd love to make the situation better some how but I don't know any proper solutions for this. I even lost all device settings when updating through Ovi Suite even though it stated that it will backup them.

Miika, you most likely have more access than most of us here to someone from Nokia that should know about this to fix it. Start kicking some a** :D

this I have asked myself 3 times after I've flushed one savegame with every level @ 3 stars, and couple with multiple dozen 3 stars. I always remember this after reflashing ;)

Yet another thing that should be researched fully, to ensure that you get maximum enjoyment from the n900...

So we know what the problem is and we know where the game files are stored...

Question is, how would you restore the permissions after restoring the files from /var/opt/rovio/angrybirds?

I'm fine with using xterm, I just don't know enough linux to know what to do!

I had this problem before and someone told me to complete at least 1 level before overwriting the blank highscores.lua and settings.lua in var/opt/rovio/angrybirds/. That seems to solve the permission problem. My scores are restored and i can make new highscores without the game crashing on me :)

As much as I completely vomit insult all over this PR 1.3 update for being so sparse on any noticeable updates and features as to be vulgar, this one is absolutely on Rovio if you're accurate about where they are storing the scores. Incredibly stupid, in fact.

I don't know about OVI suite backup. I didn't do it because I made one on the N900. But I did flash my device with OVI and after that I made backup from N900. And my blubbels hiscore is there, and gweled and hex-a-hop......... So it can be done somehow. With or without following the hierarchy. Even on Ubuntu my home partition is the same but now I have sixth clean install of the system. And most of my settings are always preserved.

No but I got it to work I just uninstalled and force deleted rm -rf /var/opt/rovio/angrybirds
reinstalled and it's all good. got 3level packs too :)

wtf is wrong with you people? its just a GAME , Personally I fully flashed my phone and lost my score... So what? what's the big deal? Its not like you're competing for getting highest score to win a prize or something?? seriously guys its not worth it, You played the game, you had fun and you might play it again from scratch just for that :)

i reflashed with PR.1.3 and lost all the levels ( and scores) that i bought from the Ovi store previosuly.

yes.

install filebox


then go to:

/var/opt/rovio/angry birds

copy those two files to where you want to save them too.


i did a clean install with maemo flasher to pr1.3 and then copied the files back to the /var/opt/rovio/angry birds and it worked like a charm!

do this:

open xterm
once Midnight commander opens, go to:

/home/user/.osso/hildon-application-manager

and change clean-after-install from 1 to 0 then check /home/user/MyDocs/.apt-archive-cache/ for the debs.

download-packages-to-mmc 1

The file is deleted directly after installation, unless you change clean-after-install as shown above.


ovi store paid applications are stored in the /var/tmp folder.

when you go to download the files from OVI, when it makes you tap on "install/continue", before you do that, go to this /var/tmp folder and copy the installation file to a location you want and then you will have it later.


hope i dont get snubbed for this. so long as you paid for it, you should be able to own it, so long as you are not sharing it illegally.

tried to follow your instructions, but couldn't get it to work first time.
will have another bash at it later on, but thanks for your help.

I also think that having paid for it, and updating a Nokia PR update, it should not wipe my paid levels and scores.

Go to Ovi Store and sign in. You should be able to DL the packs again from there.
