N800 Painted Faceplates (Pictures)
Thought I'd post a few pics for everyone. I used 2 coats of primer and 3 coats of "Textured Black" and "Flat White". They came out quite nicely, though I might sand down the white to get rid of a blemish.
I went with textured black because I hate slippery electronics, hopefully it will hold up in the long run with all the skin oils and such! Next thing we need to find is some replacement buttons, lol! Thanks Texrat, couldn't have done this without your awesome contribution to the forum! http://homepage.mac.com/sheriff/ITT/IMG00001.jpg http://homepage.mac.com/sheriff/ITT/IMG00014.jpg http://homepage.mac.com/sheriff/ITT/IMG00016.jpg |
Re: N800 Painted Faceplates (Pictures)
Very nice idea (textured paint)! I need to spend some time painting up a few... just been too humid here in north Texas lately.
And you're welcome! There's plenty more, folks! |
Re: N800 Painted Faceplates (Pictures)
If I could find rubberized paint, I'd order a few more faceplates from you lol =)
(Kind of like the Dash backing, I've seen a few electronics with this soft feel) |
Re: N800 Painted Faceplates (Pictures)
Damn, i love the black faceplate.
Any chance i can buy one from you? |
Re: N800 Painted Faceplates (Pictures)
Just order from me and do it yourself. ;)
I really like rcadden's camo job shown in the faceplate thread. very nice. Oh, and soft touch paint would be VERY cool! |

Texrat, how much are you selling the face plate?
|
Re: N800 Painted Faceplates (Pictures)
See my face plate thread in the "Accessories" section.
I'm not really selling them, just charging for shipping and handling. FYI, unTouched: yours went out yesterday. |
Re: N800 Painted Faceplates (Pictures)
I'm considering snagging some more, Texrat, if I can come up with some cool painting ideas.

Re: N800 Painted Faceplates (Pictures)
has anyone else that has paintd one had the problem of the paint wearing fast at the edges where you would generally hold it.... ive used primer and a few different types of black paint on separate occasions , and always have the problem of the paint becoming soft at the edges.... any suggestions?

Re: N800 Painted Faceplates (Pictures)
My black one has had that issue. I'd suggest a sealant, but then it isn't going to be the flat coloring that we're looking for. My camo one, however, hasn't. I guess cause there's a few layers of different colors?

Re: N800 Painted Faceplates (Pictures)
when i can find someone that will do it , im going to try to have it powder coated

Did you try sanding it before painting?
|
Re: N800 Painted Faceplates (Pictures)
As an alternative to paint I suggest vinyl dye. I've done this on plastic computer parts and cdrom faceplate's. Dye seeps into the plastic and doesn't wear off unlike paint.
Here's an article using dye for computer parts: http://www.gideontech.com/content/articles/202/1 |
Re: N800 Painted Faceplates (Pictures)
I thought the face plate was aluminum?
