n900 - Virtual Keyboard doesnt Show and Phone Dailpad always Portrait
 

Hi,

Recently I got two problems with my n900,

1. Virtual Keyboard doesnt Show up at ALL,

2. My Phone Dialpad is always on Landscape and never going to Portrait like when I bought it.

I tried everything. I even Flashed the Phone 3 times, both Kernel and eMMC. But still these problems are there. Hope someone can help me out here.

1.check the text input settings? maybe the the virtual keyboard is turned off

2.check if you have any open windows? or check the orientation setting of the dial pad.

encountered both, and checked those. phone is fine. :)

You would think Nokia will fix this Virtual Keyboard **ISSUES** once and for all. It is small Sh** like this that makes people very mad. Simple stuff like this should work out the box.

You are right about that, Simple things like Virtual Keyboard and USSD, etc should work out-of-da-box. If the phone wasn't ready why release it in the first place.

Lol, I had to learn Linux Command Lines for some advanced stuff :P

Anyway, Anyone got a FIX for these problems then it would be great.

for your virtual keyboard issue, did you install an app call mscim?

virtual keyboard can't be activated
i installed pr 1.3 and some app in my n900. option "use virtual keyboard" was checked in Text Input on Settings. hope s'one help me to make it appear..?

No, no mscim.
But I can use dialpad in portrait and landscape.
It feels like Virtual Keyboard blocked or not activated...
can't find how to get it. is this a bug?

Hmmm.... i am having a similar problem...

no mscim installed...

It works sometimes and I am not sure when it doesnt work... After reboot it works again... anyone???

since I flash to 1.3 I dont know how looks virtual keyboard :-(

Hi i had the same problem like you.

My solution: turn mobile off - get battery out - wait a few seconds - give battery back - turn it on and try if virtual keyboard works.
In my case it worked.

No, it (fu*^ing) not work.
I made several re-flashes to 1.3, without and with restore apps from backup. I afraid to flash too many times....
On dial pad it work fine, portrait & landscape. Not on text execution (SMS, email)..
Can it be some issue that belong to PR localization. My is 003 - MENA (Middle East and North Africa).

solve it!!!
It was SYGIC9.
if it "was" before upgrade to 1.3 - you must to install (sygic) and then uninstall it. remove res + maps + drive.

It was hard to find...

LET US TRY A DIFFERENT METHOD:
switch off the phone,remove battery & sim.INSERT ANOTHER NETWORK SIM ,put the battery & switch on

Greetings,
i know it is a old thread but i have the same issue with the disappeared virtual keyboard,
never used scim or mscim but used ukeyboard . The strange thing is that after a reflash of the phone ( both fiasco and emmc) the vkb is only working after the initial boot, if it is rebooted the vkb is not working again (no packages installed prior to the incident).

is there any solution to this behavior or a replacement keyboard that i could use ?

What fixed my issue (virtual keyboard never pops up):
In Text Input settings, uncheck Use virtual keyboard, Save
Get back, check it back, Save.
Switch off the device, remove the battery. Wait a minute or two, pop the battery in and turn on the device.

Vrtual keyboard back online.

Hey,i've mostly seen that this problem is only there in those N900 phones which come with pre-installed MSCIM.My solution is simple and it doesnt have any side-effects,so give it a try.I'll go through it step-wise..
1: Open application manager and go to uninstall
2: Uninstall MSCIM or SCIM that you have
3: Open X-Terminal
4: sudo gainroot
5: cd /etc/event.d(There's a space after 'cd')
6: ls
7: After 'ls',see if 'scim' is there in that list that comes up,if its there just remove it with the following command.I'll just write it as '8'
8: rm scim
Now type '9' and '10' exactly as i do,
9: /usr/bin/gtk-query-immodules-2.0
10: /etc/gtk-2.0/gtk.immodules
Even if '10' doesnt work,taking care of step '1' to '9' should make the virtual keyboard work.Let me know how it went..
