reflash with pr1.3

Flash the kernel only:
https://wiki.maemo.org/Updating_the_...a_FIASCO_image

You can't just uninstall the modules when using the power kernel...

It's like uninstalling drivers on Windows and expecting things to work... :)

And NO; You don't need to re-flash the whole thing!

Re: bricked after deinstalling kernel power

Same thing happend to me, Its just vibrates, show me the Nokia logo and reboots over and over and over again untill i remove the battery.
I was thinking about flashing the phone, thing is: When i plug it to a chager (PC and/or wall charger), it turns on, and keep rebooting like someone is paying it to do so. And my battery aint fully charged.(dont have a spare one), and the phone wont charge.

So if i try to flash it with the rest of my battery life, it migth go very bad if i run out of juice. and my guess would be that since the phone just wont stop rebooting while connected to Chager/PC, it migth scew up the flasing?

EDIT: Not same as the OP's problem, cause his phone seems to boot up to the desktop, while mine never gets passed the Nokia boot logo.

Re: bricked after deinstalling kernel power

is there a .bin file for this fiasco kernel?

coz there's no way i can access the xterminal. upon reboot to desktop, it restarts right away.

You have to remove Enhanced Power Kernel. That should also remove the modules (haven't tried)... :)

Even if it doesn't remove the modules it shouldn't break when doing it this way.

The command listed should be done from Windows/Linux using the flasher tool. If You're on Windows leave out "sudo" and "./" in front of flasher-3.5...

You have to download the flasher tool and the FIASCO imagee. Look for "PR 1.3 version 20.2010.36-2" under "Brief Description" and pick the one that applies to Your area (USA, EMEA, India or Global).

1) Turn off Your N900
2) Run flasher like this (on Windows):
Code:

flasher-3.5.exe -F <firmware-image> --flash-only=kernel -f -R
- where firmware image is the name of the FIASCO image You just downloaded.
3) Hold the u key on the device keyboard and connect the USB cable at the same time.
4) It should now flash the kernel only.

Thanks for making that more clear. But my question still stands.
How will the flashing go if the phone keeps rebooting after the Nokia boot logo, and wont stay off without removing the battery while plugged to a PC/charger?

I'd say if it at least charges while it's in the reboot loop leave it like that until it's fully charged (give it an hour or so?).

After that, remove the battery and put it back in without turning it on. Then follow my instructions. pressing u when turning it on should prevent it from trying to load Maemo.

EDIT - Your problem might be different than the OP's... The solution I posted might not work for You (it might not even work for the OP, but it's worth a try)... Don't hijack his thread... ;)

Regarding a phone that won't charge there's been lots of other threads about that. Please look for the answer there. I believe You have to either borrow a fully charged battery or get Your battery charged by someone else who also have a N900.

Re: bricked after deinstalling kernel power

Well im not really sure if it charges, the charger LED indicator aint blinking so.
But i now pressed "u" when i connected it to my PC, It shows me a VERY vague Nokia logo. But it dont reboot now, and the LED indicator is glowing yellow.(Not pulsating like the charging LED effect)

Ill leave it like that for a while, maybe it gets some more battery, Then ill give it a flash, just need to download Ubuntu or something, since im at 64bit Win7, and some say that it migth give me some trouble.
Anyhow, thanks for you help, I'll hola at you if i run into some kinda problem, and ill let you know if it worked out. :)

Re: bricked after deinstalling kernel power

Use the charger to charge it instead of charging via USB... :)

It's a lot faster that way... ;)

Re: bricked after deinstalling kernel power

You don't turn it on when flashing using 'Flasher 3.5' from a PC. Yank the battery, put the battery back in DONOT turn on the N900. Connect the USB lead to the PC and open the keyboard on the N900. Hold the 'U' key down on the N900 and at the same time plug in the other end of the USB lead into it. Keep your finger on the 'U' until the N900 screen displays dimmed the blue 'NOKIA' in the middle and the symbol for USB in the top right. It's dimmed so can be hard to see.

When the N900 displays this it is in 'flashing mode' it will stay like this forever, unless you yank the battery again. Note: it doesn't charge in this mode. Now follow the instructions given about what to do with 'Flasher 3.5' and it should be fine.

Oh thanks, didnt know that. :)
Not trying to hijack his thread, Just seems like we both ran into "kinda" same problem after trying to deinstall the Kernel config. Only that his phone get a full boot. :p

So no hijackin attended, just want to get both our phones up and running. Cuase I can feel his pain... and it really hurts. :p

Thanks for that. Ill just leave it on the wallcharger, and hope it charges while rebooting then.

i have successfully flashed the kernel only. but it is still showing the same problem, forces to reboot after it reaches the desktop.

You said you used Vanilla. That is used for flashing the eMMC. Use the FIASCO image.
lemme know what happens.
good luck

The only funny thing I noticed after I de-installed the power kernel was that it automatically updated to 1.3 :o

shockgiga 2010-10-27 21:43

Re: bricked after deinstalling kernel power

i must have done the wrong process of deinstallation. now im regretting to have wanted to upgrade to 1.3 :(

Re: bricked after deinstalling kernel power

oh btw i have multiboot. the kernel power40 still shows up in #2 but when i choose that it does nothing. when i choose #1 it boots up as far as the desktop. then reboots.

Re: bricked after deinstalling kernel power

shockgiga, unless I missed where you tried it, I think it may REALLY be time to just flash your root with PR 1.2 and re-install your multiboot setup.

1. how do i flash the root? - is it just flashing pr1.2 image?
2. how do i re-install multiboot?

1.3 is actually slower. hmmm

anyway, everything is erased even my backup. but the images and videos aren't.

for you it's slower not for me

have you tried 950mhz overclock before 1.3?

RenaldoTT 2010-10-28 00:46

Re: bricked after deinstalling kernel power

yep, I went up to 1150Mhz and it didn't make much a difference I prefer the stock speed and voltage with the PR 1.3. just me personally

shockgiga 2010-10-28 01:22

Re: bricked after deinstalling kernel power

ah i see. 1150mhz kept crashing with me before. so did 1000mhz when playing games.

anyway, just in case someone needs info and has a similar problem like what i had.

what i did was:

1. flashed a FIASCO of 1.3 ( without the -R parameter )
2. flashed vanilla kernel
3. flashed 1.3

i dont know if some of those are unnecessary but it worked for me. now im reinstalling all my lost apps. lol

RenaldoTT 2010-10-28 01:27

Re: bricked after deinstalling kernel power

I'm pleased that you got your problem solved, I have not yet come to a point where I NEED to flash. Hopefully I won't ever have to flash, unless for an upgrade or something.
