Soon getting n900

I have 5800, need to sell it and move on to n900.
What to expect and what apps to get first?

Re: Soon getting n900

Are you sure?
Forgot using Ovi Maps as navegator.
Forgot hand-writing input.
Forgot games, and lots of apps (yes, here they will say you crappy apps, you know)
Forgot portrait when you newer could think here is only landscape.
There are better options. Are you linux-guru-skilled-enough for this mess? PR 1.3 arrived, and only bugfixed since original PR, and no enhances coming.
Is your money.

Re: Soon getting n900

N900 is a phone for tweakers really. You can adjust the phone OS to your likings, but there are ofcourse a great deal of things you'd expect from the N900, but actually aren't there.
RolePlayGame already mentioned a few.
If you like to hack settings or develop software for the N900 than that's the phone to go for. If you like WOW-factor, 1-hand control or ease of use then I'd suggest you take a look at other phones.

The 5800 is a much better phone than the N900. The 5800 is still getting updates, the N900 is not. The N900 is a much better mobile computer. Forget about apps for the N900. Why not wait a month for the C6-01?

Re: Soon getting n900

i like the customizations and all that. I'm not a developer or linux guru, but i'd like to learn more about it.
I'm used to not having many apps. In 5800 there are TONS of bad ones. so few games are ok.
I usually use my phone for texting , some video. ill get used to the phone Even with functions lacking. And n900 is only 320$ from amazon warehouse, its cheaper than other phones because i don't want to spend more money.
I'd love the n8 but 550$? naaah......too much for me. Thanks

What? Have you completely failed to notice an update from Nokia just days ago?

And the community apps from here are being updated all the time...

The c6-01 looks kinda like samsung , and i don't like those.
I need something different from 5800.

In that case get the N900. There is no middle ground for the N900. You are going to love it or hate it.

WTF Is there an update? :D It can't be compared with the updates on the 5800. Pr1.3 was only bug fixes, nothing new. Community apps here rarely (read: never) gets updates after being pushed to extras.

But there is Nitdroid with tons of apps, some of then even works on the N900.

Please make a list of

Must have (essentials)
Need to have (the middle ground)
Can live without but like (expendables)

and set a measure after all those list-items are verified to evaluate if it is a good phone/micro-computer for you

Keep in mind that this device is a computer with phone functionality and not a smartphone in terms of calendar/address-book/phone-features. They are all kind of upgradeable by community tools but remain limited yet.

If you like to start your experience drive for linux with this phone you should keep your 5800 just in case you brick your device for some days and got no time to read all the forum posts to fix the problem.

If you decide to join us as n900 owner I would recommend to read some wiki pages and some forum posts about tweaks, must-have-apps and other things before you start actually using it as primary device.

The day you tell "I find my way around!" is the day to sell your 5800.

Hope that helped a bit ;)

Well i've looked through many videos, reviews and such. Today started reading this forum heavily to gather as much info about it as possible. It basically has everything i want. If it doesn't fine with me, ill get used to it.
If i get the n900, i won't be doing much modding or tweaking or what you call it, Mainly ill be using for texting music, taking pictures, some gaming and god who knows what else....

You helped alot

DUDE you remind me of myself back when i got the n900, i had a nokia e75, and really i wanted to change, i wanted something other than symbian, something extraordenary, something out of this world, i tested back than tons of devices including the n97, 5800, iphone 3gs, nokia e72, and a lot more, but i didn't test the n900 .
remember this i was a 100 % noob, i never used linux before (i still never used it ;) ) , i didn't even know what x-terminal is, but damm i love my n900, i'm learning skills with it, i know how to reflash, overclock, copy/paste/cut files via x-terminal, i know how to tweak transitions and mods on the device, i know how to do pretty much every simple task with x-terminal, i'm really good with the qb bicon widget...... but i just love all what the device has to offer, and for apps, well i used to have on my old symbians arround 40 downloaded apps, and 20 games, and most of the apps were bookmarks,..... but on the n900 i have 120 apps and games, yes i have 2 times the number of apps that my brother have on his jailbroken ipod touch (yes i jailbroked it ), people say there is no apps, but atually we have tons of them, and 90% of our apps are 100% excellent, ("symbian had like 35% of good apps, rest was (is) crap), the homescreens are just ....WOW, no device can be customized like the n900, you are gonna love it trust me, same way i'm loving mine.

If you want to buy n900, you must keep your 5800!
Same battery, ideal fast-charger!
And if **** happens, a full charged battery could be your best friend (and believe me, "it refuses to boot, I must reflash but USB doesn't charge my n900" is a PAINFULL situation and not so hard to reach).
Excuse my English... I'm Spanish.

P.D. We still love you, Paul Octopus... :'-(

I don't want to keep the 5800. Value is decreasing and i got a still good price to sell for (135$). If the situation you mentioned happens...i guess ill have to get a battery or do something else.

Also anyone bought or know someone that bought anything from amazon warehouse? Please help on that , thanks
