Extremely pleased with PR1.3
 

I'm seeing a number of threads where people are reporting problems with PR1.3. I must say that I'm actually really happy with the release. I've not experienced any newly introduced bugs and my phone is considerably more responsive overall, especially Modest (without overclocking or swappiness tweaks). Also, while I've not done any official benchmarks, it would seem battery performance has increased by at least 25%.

I really couldn't be much happier with it if indeed this is the last major Maemo release.

The only real complaint I have is still a combination of no IMAPidle and the fact that Nokia Messaging's servers won't interact with my mail server because it doesn't have a supported, signed cert. My sincere hope, though, is that by early next year, I'll be running a properly functioning build of Meego and this issue will be resolved.

Regardless, thanks to everyone who contributed. My phone is used constantly for work (I'm a Linux admin) and play. I appreciate the effort.

I am happy too. This device will last me for another year at least, until new Meego device rolls out.

I like it too. My only main niggles are that the menu scrolling is still juttery (in fact it freezes on me, then goes to the 'move icon' screen). Folders would be nice too as ApMeFo is still in devels and buggy. Also, portrait keyboard should have been implemented.

It's a great update, but for the time taken between this and 1.2, there could/should have been more features.

agreed, PR1.3 has made a decent improvement to my device.
i had no pain when installingb either. it was very straightforward and all my apps and settings remained.

I flashed, eMMC and all, don't feel it more responsive... for me it's just the same...

i did this also. and the device feels the same, no battery improfment and not faster at all. Only noticeable difference is version number. I oc;d at 800 MHz using titans kernel v40 So far no problems at all.

Sometime folks can't be happy with what they have. Not saying there aren't issues, just saying never loose sigh of how great this phone still is.

I had 10 web windows open, vnc, conky and the phone was still way more responsive than before. Thanks nokia, thanks maemo community. The n900 to me is the gift that keeps giving...:D.

I notice that the media player playing video does not stuttle or skip frame or froze in the beginning anymore...which is cool...it was annoying before.

I just wanted to say that I'm also pleased with PR1.3 - there aren't huge changes - but the refinements and bug fixes are appreciated. Thanks to all concerned!

For instance, I use the FM Radio App a lot, and I've found much less stuttering in PR1.3. And I'm sure the battery life is better.

I would also say that, the mere fact that PR1.3 was released is positive - it shows there is still some attention being paid to the N900! :-)

true indeed.... i foundsome changes in m cell aftr update

1. Bit Faster then Before.aftr opening 14 web n 3 applications cell was slow in response but now aftr openin 16 its very responsive....
2. Battery Life has improved quite a lot..
3. Smooth scrolling very fast responsive....

not being huge changes but still very much appreciated work frm Nokia,just hope its nt the end of it....

Totally agree, even overclocked to 850, 900, or even 1100 MHz, I am getting great perhaps 25%longer battery life than before pr1.3. With overclock and some fairly heavy usage I can go about a day and a half on 1 charge. Used to be dead by about 9pm on first day without some conservation.

As for other improvements, experience is generally smother and more polished. Now all I want to do is figure out how to dual boot to Meego!

In my opinion pr1.3 combined features from pr1.2 plus some added features and the stability of pr1.1 the result is a satisfactory release of maemo. I like it, but people tend to be more demanding and NOKIA has rather other issues to take care about than to produce a new update with all fullfilled features every month or so. As one said "Where are the hugs with no bugs" imagine the N900 being bug-free how could the developers use our skills to enhance it? I loved the the N900 the way I bought it not the way I thought it will be.

I'm so far happy with PR1.3 except of the fact that my cpu usage is really high, even in idle without any app opened. Already did a fresh reflash, but everything stayed the same.

Imagine what a bargain the pr1.3 N900 must be to none early adopters, one year after it's release?

Some, like me, do never learn.. still feel ripped and let down by MS having bought Win95 on release day only to discover the app store was very limited and the first service pack that would make the OS more or less live up to its promises would take another year...
Yet I was hunting for N900 soon after release day..

As it is today, the PR1.3 N900 I could start to recommend to my grandmother if she had lived long enough in 2010 to enjoy this day.. She has been suffering over an Asus netbook with 9 year old windows XP instead. For doing some skype voice, imagine..

The camcorder ist working a lot better now. No visible dropped frames when recording, even when mooving fast.
Can anyone confirm?


When i hat pr1.2 my n900 was overclocken to 800 Mhz.Now i can leave stock speed and it es even more responsive than before.
