SavePress 0.3.2

SavePress 0.3.2

"The child of longpress (thanks to Matan) used to toggle a power-saving-mode with the right side lock-key. Features (all configable): *Set/restore freqlimits. *Disable wlan. *Toggle cellular radio. *Set/restore only-2g-mode. *Disable bluetooth. *Set X seconds you want to hold down the button. *A button is visible in the power-button-menu when active, whenever you foregt if savepress is active. "

This app sounds awesome, but wont install.

Thru xterm It says its not a debian package

:(

Re: SavePress 0.3.2

I'm the author of Savepress and can assure you that it works just fine, at least on my own device installed with Fapman and apt-get. Only had one person testing it yet and as far as I know he managed to get it working out of the box. This is my first ever application and I don't have a linux background, which means i can't really relate to your problem and therefore can't help you much, sorry :/
What method did you use to install it?

Btw,
Just uploaded version 0.3-3 and a new package called savepress-editor, a GUI to configure the settings (to be a little non-xterm friendlier).

Re: SavePress 0.3.2

It`s working for me...but trough icon it didnt start only trough x-term,

also in not quite sure what it supposed to do :D

EDIT:
okay no i get it :)

when started via x-term it gives me an error
Unsupported data format character at 1 (%-d. %-m.)

BTW! Is it possible remove the notification from power-button-menu next to battery icon? Then its easier to notice

The idea of savepress is to easily toggle a power-save-mode. To do that it uses the lock-key on the right side of your device. The "X seconds to hold down the button" is as simple as:
you press down the button -> it waits the X couple of seconds you chose -> activate/deactivate the saving-mode.

What comes to savepress-editor.. Is the error only when you use xterm, or when you use the icon too?

Is it possible to remove the notification in power-button-menu?
- Yes, could be used in a future update.
Is it possible to move it in the status-menu?
- I guess. I'm not really sure how tho.

savepress-editor failed to load when started from icon, worked only from x-term for me

by notification i didnt meant the d-bus notication is good but to add it maybe also to next of battery icon so you dont have to check it from power-button-menu

Hm. Did you start it with simply "savepress-editor"?
Did the terminal say something when exited the application?

Yeah, understood what you meant. I'll have a look.

Looks like it's the .desktop-file then.. I can't really find anything which would hold the startup back tho.

Would be great if anyone else tested savepress-editor to know if the problem is global.

I strongly doubt it's savepress itself who made your phone "die". The only thing that happens when installing is:
1. Installs dbus-scripts if you don't already got it.
2. Installs savepress. (i.e adds some files)
3. Kills dbus-scripts.

Which means savepress don't really touch your system before a reboot of your phone.

But remember guys, theres a reason why it's in the extras-devel and hasn't got a Announce yet :)

Hi

I've tested and nothing to do for me with gui editor. I've a conflict with Shortcutd, the proximity sensor (action Browser: Back) don't work while i use your application.

Re: SavePress 0.3.2

It's working without problems for me. Really great program! Those who got a problem could try to purge the install and then reinstall.

1. sudo gainroot
2. dpkg -P savepress savepress-editor
3. apt-get install savepress savepress-editor

As i understand.. the program are suposed to shutdown pretty much everything but call function. So while active a lot of things will not work. While disabled everything should work as normal though.

This could be good if you have a meeting or are in class and don't have time to use it. Then it will use as little battery as possible. It only allows for calls.

Correct me if i am wrong Wellef ;)

"nothing to do for me with gui editor"
- Do you mean it doesn't work or..?

I don't really know how Shortcutd works but I use camkeyd (which is now a part of shortcutd) and it works just fine. I'll try shortcutd and see what I can find..

Yeah, pretty much it. Savepress is capable of disable the cellular radio too, so calls can also be shutdown.

Re: SavePress 0.3.2

Yes, it doesn't work, nothing appear, i launch Gui editor from shortcut.

I've prefer shortcutd, because it had more options. And only the proximity sensor is in conflict. The camera button (Action: Dashboard) is usable.

I try to reinstall SavePress and SavePressGUI and i test with command line.

Edit 1:

dpkg -P savepress savepress-editor- ok
Reinstall with FapMan- ok
CmdLine savepress-editor- ok
ShortCut- Not ok
Proximity sensor- browser go back ok
LongPress right button- ok go in safe mode, menuitem power button- ok
LongPress right button- ok go in normal mode, menuitem power button- ok

I tried now after reboot:
LongPress right button- ok go in safe mode, menuitem power button- ok
LongPress right button- ok go in normal mode, menuitem power button- ok
Proximity sensor- browser go back ok
CmdLine savepress-editor- ok
ShortCut- Not ok

Re: SavePress 0.3.2

Thanks for the info GaRy. It really looks like it's something wrong with the .desktop-file but I cant figure out what it might be.. :/

For now, for those who want to try savepress, I recommend a manual edit of your settings in /home/user/.config/savepress

Re: SavePress 0.3.2

I've tested and modified the desktop file. The gui launch ok just remove the sudo in the exec line.

Edit1:
I can't save setting from editor

Test in xterm with root privilges: "chown user:users /home/user/.config/savepress"
I can now save setting from editor, but editor on next start doesn't show or not load the new setting only the default vallue.

But savepress load the new setting when i long press the right button.

Oh, thanks a billion GaRy!! :)
I've fixed a new package of savepress-editor with your changes..

The editor isn't yet capable of fetching the saved settings.

Thank you very much wellef for this nice piece of software.
Don't you think could be useful to add the FMtransmitter toggle on/off? I use it pretty often and there's actually no way to toggle it by using service buttons.

In my case the optimal would be to toggle between:
pause mediaplayer + turn off FMtransmitter <--> turn on FMtransmitter + resume mediaplayer

Would you consider that?

There was some trouble when I packed version 0.4-4. The installer didn't love my replacement of the configfile. The newer versions should work :)

Update:
Savepress now includes a temporary fix for the savepress-editor permission-issue. Just run Savepress one time before using the editor for the first time.

Sure, the FM Transmitter could be very useful. Right now I can't tell if toggle or only disconnection will be used. Have to make some research to find out if the status of the transmitter could be received. I'm not sure about the pause/play tho. As far as i know theres no way to find out if the media player is currently playing, and therefor the function would always start the music.

I'll consider the transmitter to a future version. Right now I'm almost done with the next update which will enable the choice of lock a frequency instead of set the limits.

I also have plans to add screen brightness-toggle to a future update.

my variant of your savepress:
1) wifi switcher code from "Wifi Switcher"
2) check for N seconds every second that lock key pressed

Thanks for your contribution ForeverYoung. I've looked at your changes and this is my thoughts:

1) I don't really see why the module has to be shutdown. But I'm quite new to Linux (my N900 is my very first experience tbh). Maybe you, or anyone else, could tell me the difference?
2) The main goal in savepress is to save as much battery as possible. And with that in mind I cant see how a for-loop is any better than check->sleep->check. Sure, it could maybe be better if the number of seconds was set to <10. But the majority users will probably use 2-5 seconds.

Official thread!

If I don't unload module, in N minutes, if there is a wifi net around, it would be found and connected.

For-loop goes all its way only if I really press lock key for N seconds, otherwise it exit in 1 second.
Sometimes I unlock device, look at clock or something, and lock it again, in 2 second or in 5 or in 10, and savepress activates accidentally without every-second-test.
