I wish I could, let me ask you...I have a perhaps similar issue. I had to reflash the kernel and file system after installing pr 1.3 due to my stupidity. anyway so I have a blank slate. I installed advanced-power which worked perfectly on pr 1.2 and my battery bar swoosh gone. I uninstall advanced-power and I get it back. here is a link to the thread, nobody has an answer as of yet.

hhh7fold: So what was the app that caused this problem for you? Advanced Power? What repositories did you have enabled? Also, can you tell me what you have installed currently? (And what of that was installed when you installed Advanced Power?) Because a few people have been reporting this issue, and I'm trying to figure out what the problem is, until the developer has the time to participate more actively and solve it.

Yes, it also happened when i installed Advanced Power. Even after uninstalling it, the batt icon still disappear. The solution i found was to restart my n900 and it appeared again. Just restart the phone after installing Advanced Power. Should be ok

Re: my batt icon dissapear

Okay, so yours was just the normal restart hildon-status-menu (which rebooting does) and it will reappear.

The only problem is that for some people, the Hildon Status Menu got messed up and their icon wouldn't come back even after a reboot.

Re: my batt icon dissapear

Any chance you could list what you had installed at the time (if you remember), and/or what repository you got it from?

Re: my batt icon dissapear

It was from extras and it was the only app I installed at that time
(as it was the only new app in the extras at tht time :P ).
and I uninstalled that app only which gave me back my battery icon

Re: my batt icon dissapear

The developer of this app suggested the following:
Code:

python /usr/lib/hildon-desktop/advanced_power.py 1
If you guys get around to installing it again, and the battery icon disappears still, you can try running that in X-Term and report back what happens.

I tried it and it doesn't work for me, I mean the python command, it gives the following error

No module named advpowcommon.util.execn
file "/usr/lib/hildon-desktop/advanced_power.py", line 16
ImportError: cannot import name StatusbarItem

I think the Advanced power common package isn't installed, but I see it in the deps of this package, I'll try installing it manually

Try to reboot your n900 (turn it off and turn it on again). This is how i got the icon back

Thank you, it worked fine and the icon appeared without rebooting, but I still want to run the advanced power package, does anybody know how?

I installed it and it's working fine. What I did is:
1. I downloaded & Installed using app manager
2. After installed, The Batt Icon indeed disappeared.
3. Turned off & Turned it on
4. It appeared again

Note: I don't have many widget installed. Just plastic theme and couple of widgets (like bluetooth, wifi, messagebox). Try not to install many things especially from testing/unstable apps repository.

Re: my batt icon dissapear

I have a feeling the batt icon disappearing has something to do with D-bus (if this was already known, i apologize).
Advanced-Power is noted for being one application that makes this happen. It is an unfortunate bug that with proper feedback should most likekly be fixed. So here I am with feedback.

It has been suggested by the creator of the app (412b) that the output for this be shown:
Code:

python /usr/lib/hildon-desktop/advanced_power.py 1
So, here is my output
Code:

process 4682: arguments to dbus_connection_get_data() were incorrect, assertion "connection != NULL" failed in file dbus-connection.c line 5757.
This is normally a bug in some application using the D-bus library.
process 4682: arguments to dbus_connection_set_data() were incorrect, assertion "connection != NULL" failed in file dbus-connection.c line 5721.
This is normally a bug in some application using the D-bus library.
Aborted

Now, i have no idea what this means, so any feedback asto what it could mean and what causes it to abort would be appreciated.

Again, sorry if I have already stated the obvious. I will clarify an questions that may be asked of me. Again, thank you 412b for making such a wonderful program. I really want to be able to use it again. It truly is a must have.

Re: my batt icon dissapear

Hi,
i have the same problem with my fresh flashed pr 1.3.i installed from the stock repositorys.

i get this message:

Code:

~ $ python /usr/lib/hildon-desktop/advanced_power.py 1
No module named advpowcommon.util.execn
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "/usr/lib/hildon-desktop/advanced_power.py", line 16, in <module>
    from hildondesktop import StatusbarItem
ImportError: cannot import name StatusbarItem

After reboot the symbol is still not there.Ony uninstalling helps
bit i like this app...

Re: my batt icon dissapear

Ok, i just ran the command again and i got a new output:
Code:

python /usr/lib/hildon-desktop/advanced_power.py 1
No module named advpowcommon.util.execn
Traceback (most recent call last) :
  File "/usr/lib/hildon-desktop/advanced_power.py", line 16, in <module>
      from hildondesktop import StatusbarItem
ImportError: cannot import name StatusbarItem

I dont know what changes i've made (yeah, i know, horrible habit for bugtracking), but i did install "dbus-scripts-settings" and "DBus-Switchboard Config", although i have no idea what they do, iwas hoping they might have some dependency that Advanced Power might need.
