[Maemo5]QtRapids (BitTorrent Client) (Finally in extras-devel!)

What is this?

QtRapids is a bit-torrent program for N900 using Qt. It should be relatively fast (no slowdowns during downloads). Please notice that I just recompiled this and edited the deb's dependencies a bit. I have NOT written this application and I take no responsibility for this application or what it might do to your device.

How to install?

Just download the program from extras-devel.

So is this faster then Transmission? because that's so incredibily slow on my phone.

At least it should be. At least on my N900 it was much faster than Transmission.

when will you upload this to extras-devel?

Re: [Maemo5]QtRapids

Any chance of having this packaged as 1 application and submitted to Extras-devel?

THAT would be great!

I really don't know how to get this to Extras-Devel since this program is still there (but the program package itself is removed because of missing dependencies). If anybody could help me in this I would upload it to Devel right away.

hope im not wasting your time here but when do you think some thing like this could come to extras
not linux savy so have no idea how to stabilize extra-devel apps..
will need to be spoon fed with a step by step process

thanks any way :)

Does this app handle private trackers ? Also this app seems to rely on a package called libboost-filesystem. Exactly what is that?

Most private trackers have a allowed list of clients, and usually it consists of azureus, transmission, rtorrent, µtorrent and deluge with various versions. So no go for QtRapids, however I'd check with the private tracker in particular if it's allowed.

EDIT: Oh and some might not even enforce any limitations.

Could you paste the complete output of the commands (a screenshot or a paste of the text from the terminal).

OK, tried to install it to my device after removing it and all the dependencies of it and added a few new steps to installation instructions. I wonder why nobody reported properly of these problems before...

EDIT: And please report if it works now

Works perfectly!
I just finished dowloading 700MB livecd.
Download speed was about 1Mb/s, so it used our whole bandwidth.

Are you sure you tried the newest installation instructions from the first post. Just continue from "apt-get install -f" if you already tried to install QtRapids but haven't removed anything yet.

Re: [Maemo5]QtRapids (BitTorrent Client)

hi sorry i didnt reply sooner
got it working after only part of it was installed with
apt-get purge -f
it found all the missing dependencys and works fine for me now thou you have to have full upload speed set to get full download speed
which is fine on wifi but sucks on gprs
and sometimes all partly downloaded files disapear but i think its just when nothings been downloaded and its just the ghost file( cant remember what its called lol)

The problem in your case might be (altough a paste of the results of trying to install it would REALLY help) that you already have the server and/or gui installed but they are missing dependencies. Run
Code:

dpkg -r qtrapids-gui
dpkg -r qtrapids-server
apt-get autoremove

and then try to install it like instructed on the first post again.

EDIT: And this is the solution for cloud596's problem too.

Hello,

I am following the instructions from the first post and here is what I get:

Code:

/home/user/MyDocs/temp # dpkg -i QtRapids-server.deb
Selecting previously deselected package qtrapids-server.
(Reading database ... 31912 files and directories currently installed.)
Unpacking qtrapids-server (from QtRapids-server.deb) ...
dpkg: dependency problems prevent configuration of qtrapids-server:
 qtrapids-server depends on libboost-filesystem1.38.0 (>= 1.38.0-1); however:
  Package libboost-filesystem1.38.0 is not installed.
 qtrapids-server depends on libboost-system1.38.0 (>= 1.38.0-1); however:
  Package libboost-system1.38.0 is not installed.
 qtrapids-server depends on libtorrent-rasterbar5 (>= 0.14.8); however:
  Package libtorrent-rasterbar5 is not installed.
dpkg: error processing qtrapids-server (--install):
 dependency problems - leaving unconfigured
Errors were encountered while processing:
 qtrapids-server

I don't think missing dependencies are the expected behavior.

I don't think missing dependencies are the expected behavior.

It is actually supposed to act like that, just continue on with the installation ("apt-get install -f" repairs these missing dependencies).

Re: [Maemo5]QtRapids (BitTorrent Client)

Ok wrong assumption on my part..

Code:

/home/user/MyDocs/temp # apt-get install -f
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
Correcting dependencies... Done
The following packages will be REMOVED:
  qtrapids-server
0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 1 to remove and 5 not upgraded.
1 not fully installed or removed.
After this operation, 221kB disk space will be freed.
Do you want to continue [Y/n]?

It wants me to remove the packet... is that still the expected behavior?

@quanttrom
Are you sure you have extras-devel activated. Some of the programs dependencies can be only found there.

Re: [Maemo5]QtRapids (BitTorrent Client)

That would do it :)

I followed instructions and i succesfully installed qtRapids avoiding broken dependencies error. The app works fine but the problem is that sometimes maemo notify me about software updates for qtRapids...obviously the package cannot be upgraded (dependencies problem...). The question is "why he ask me that?"...is there a new release of the app? How to solve it? Every day he ask me to upgrade qtrapids but i cannot...

Run the following code and HAM shouldn't notify you about QtRapids updates any more:

Code:

sudo gainroot
echo "Package: qtrapids-gui
Pin: version 1.1-1
Pin-Priority: 1001" >> /etc/apt/preferences

First read http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BitTorrent_%28protocol%29. After that download a torrent from somewhere and open it with the "Open" option from the programs menu.

Re: [Maemo5]QtRapids (BitTorrent Client)

Thanks Mik546 but the PIN isn't 0.1-1 ??
Anyway this does not work...N900 continues to ask me to update the app.

Also tried with:
echo "qtrapids-server hold" | dpkg --set-selections
echo "qtrapids-gui hold" | dpkg --set-selections

But this way does not work too :-(

Weird, the command is working well for me, are you sure you have the following lines in /etc/apt/preferences:

Code:

Package: qtrapids-gui
Pin: version 1.1-1
Pin-Priority: 1001

Ok, i replaced Pin 0.1-1 with 1.1-1 and now it works as u suggested.
Thank u Mik.
Just one question: why 1.1-1 ? The packages you attached in first post aren't v. 0.1-1 ??

The 1.1-1 was originally just a typo I did when I tested the command. I apparently never made sure it was the right version. 0.1-2 should be enough, when you pin that version it will be the first version it updates to.
