Hi, i just brought a Nokia N900 because the 3.5g is suposed to be working on the New Videotron Hspa/wcdma Network.

but somehow i cant make it works, there is no function for setting Apns like it used to be in my N95.

Is anyone in montreal is does own a N900 and would like to help me out.

Is it suposed to be automatic connect to Videotron Networks ?

Im soory for poor explenation but im french +_+

Re: N900 on Videotron

I just Tested it on my Nokia N95 with the information i receive on the tech support with the Apn information and it works perfectly, i dont understand why.

Is it because the only Mhz supported by n900 is 1700 ? im kinda newb to all this.

Aldo why does it says ROGER on top of my phone.

Hello there akiraqc,

The ROGER on top of your phone is probably caused by a custom operator name, and I guess the previous owner of your phone was name Roger :)
You can find information about the package here: http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=33638

I don't know much about your operator, but there is an application to configure APN's:
http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=39951

Be careful when using this, playing with applications can cause problems sometimes. Be sure to read the documentation and disclaimers.

Hope this helps

Or it could be that you're roaming on the Rogers network, in which case you're getting a 2G connection, based on some roaming agreement between Videotron and Rogers.

Re: N900 on Videotron

I actually thought it would work as Videotron runs on a different 3G network than Rogers, but actually it makes sense. Videotron uses 850 and 1900 MHz while the N900 gets HSDPA 900 / 1700 / 2100... I've been handicapped since december with 2.5G Rogers on my N900, lol, but keep hope, the N9 will definitively give us finally 3.5G :P

As per why does it show Rogers on your screen... that's a very strange issue. It seems to be roaming on that network rather than Videotron. Be sure not to get charged for roaming btw hehe

I imagined you hooking your N900 up to a giant TV at a basketball arena. It sounds awesome. It was the most innocently disappointing thread title ever.

According to GSM World, the Videotron HSPA 1700 MHz network is in "planning"--they don't even have a map yet. Sorry.

Still, regular GSM on 850/1900 MHz should work...

Nah... I work at Rogers, and I can guarantee you they are not modifying their 3G network anytime soon... (They will be the first in Canada to launch 4G very soon btw). I meant when the N9 comes out early next year, rumour has it, it will launch with five bands, including Rogers' existing 3G bands. So i'm just waiting for that, until then, my N900 will always remain handicapped :(

thanks a lot for the info on Roger. I am suprise that you work at Rogers and keep your N900 and don't go for a Rogers Iphone.

Yes indeed, I could have any Rogers/Fido/Chat-R device I would like, but to me, nothing at all beats the liberty and freedom the N900 grants me, even if im forced to work on 2.5G... (thank God for WiFi lol).

Although, kinda out of subject, I might be considering the MiFi... put my data plan on a separate SIM card, and carry a 3G wifi signal wherever i go. What's keeping me from buying it, is that I would really wish there was a 3.5G router available...you know of any (pocket size)?

Well you could always switch to Wind or something, to get that 3.5G icon. If you're outside Quebec, then you might be able to get Mobilicity (I suspect their plans can beat even your employee discounts :))

Re: N900 on Videotron

Since Videotron's partner outside Quebec is Rogers, couldn't you get Videotron for 3G speeds within Quebec, then it would drop to Edge via Rogers elsewhere in Canada?

IsaacDFP 2010-11-28 04:39

Re: N900 on Videotron

i don't really leave the Greater Montreal area...so im always within Quebec. Videotron doesn't give the N900 3G, Wind is not an option, and Mobilicity, even if they were in Montreal, their network quality is *****, of course their prices are low,you get what you pay for :p lol. I don't mind paying for quality, you can even have my Rogers plan if you want (also available for Fido): 35$ unlimited local calls, 30$ for 6gb, and 20$ value pack ;)
But yea, rumours online are claiming the N9 coming out in December on UK providers...but i dunno...lol, let's wait and see.
