I will stick with N900
I had an N8 for evaluation and I used it for a few days. I found the N900 superior in all aspects (except for that gorgeous 12MP camera) so the N8 is back in the box and the N900 is back at work in my pocket:)

Re: I will stick with N900
Well I didn't have the N8 at any stage, but since the MeeGo device isn't coming out, I'm sticking with the N900 until I think next summer.
Instead I've upgraded my home entertainment system (to replace what I had before: nothing) and I'm really happy about this decision. Now I have stuff streaming to all my devices, including my N900 and a LED television from a network shared usb HDD. Just coolness. Let's make this a thread about users who have recently decided to hold on to their N900s! :) Yea yea yea cmon share your story everybody! |
Re: I will stick with N900
I will stick to the n900 until there is a competitive device out there... i have not yet seen one. The n900 will however never leave my side. As long as it breads i will have some use of it.

Re: I will stick with N900
I'm keeping mine too. I'm so dedicated to it and so convinced that nothing out there comes close to matching it that i'm on the lookout for another one, so in case this one breaks i won't have to go without it.

Re: I will stick with N900
me too.love it.

Re: I will stick with N900
Yea but where you gonna stick it?
|
Re: I will stick with N900
Despite its hefty weight and plain looks, nothing so far comes close to my chunky monkey pocket computer when it comes to functionality and the sheer number of things that I use it for. I mean, the N8 is nice but at the end of the day, it is just another phone. The N900 is a computer that we can actually program and tweak!

Re: I will stick with N900
i love it too and will stick with it until the n9 comes out

Re: I will stick with N900
I love my N900 too. If there's any phone that can attract me in the future, I'm sure it could only be meego phone. I've tried my gf's galaxy s, my sis's iphone 3gs and 4g. But, the only thing I can say is "I'm more comfortable with the N900 in my pocket". My battery maybe drain too fast, but I managed to get another 2 spare batteries and external charger at cheap price...

Re: I will stick with N900
I think have my N900 for many years.
I respect everyone but sometimes i don't understand why buy a phone, use it a when something new comes out (6 months, maybe earlier) then drop the old one to get the new one. I know the new one have more tecnology and stuff but the N900 can be on the spot for many years. I just miss the N900 dosen't have record video 720p but for the rest have almost everything i need (some apps don't have it in extras yet and some are in the minds of someone of you). Grettings |
Re: I will stick with N900
I was quite surprised to read that the n8 has a lower resolution than the n900 (I didn't go double check this, so correct me if I'm wrong) which would make the n8 a considerable downgrade on that factor alone...
|
Re: I will stick with N900
Yes the N8 has a lower reolution but really not _that_ noticable..I have both the N900 and the orange N8, and I like them both... I wouldn't want to compare the two though.. the N8 is an excellent phone while the N900 is an excellent tablet... Both do what they're suppose to do pretty well.. and the new Symbian is really a pleasure to use for the first time since S60v5

Re: I will stick with N900
my only concern is that the meego phone will have capacitive screen instead of resistive multitouch...so the N900 is irreplacewble right now and for a long time.

Re: I will stick with N900
ok I will share my story,
I used to have a N-Gage for like 6 years now ( bought it day 1) and despite all the fuss about the iphone and android OS never felt the need to upgrade until I saw a review about the n900 on The Linux Show on youtube (not sure about the show name). I bought it 2 months ago, or 3 ... don't really remember |
Re: I will stick with N900
My wife has the N8, man we were waiting impatiently for that phone! We were so eager to test out the camera, the usb host mode and the HDMI with 5.1 sound.
But now some four weeks later I gotta say that my N900 is far more flexible and easy to use. The N8 disturbs me in many ways (it has a couple of serious updates for wait for, I know), things like responsiveness (yes, sometimes you have to press the finger three or four times just to get a reaction). I have never liked a virtual keyboard, like the ones I've tested on droids and iPhones. The browser experience i just crap to be honest, and applications just suddenly crash or behave strangely here and there. The skype application is not integrated in any way like it appears to be in the N900. The user interface is not logic either, I always press the wrong buttons. The good things are in the N8 simply put, the camera (fantastic), the navigation and the HDMI stuff. The rest, well I had expected more than this. I love my N900. |

Before my N900 i had an N97, and using Maemo 5 for this long now, i couldn't go back to Symbian again. |

Re: I will stick with N900
2nd Larswad, Munkiii and Tedri.
The N8 made me really disgusted about the capacitive screen and has confirmed that the N900 will be a unique classic. The N8 has the worst input I have every seen. The cooperation between Skype announced in Barcelona 2009 to preload and integrate is nowhere to be found but in the N900. The familiar "Share online" for uploading your pictures? Forget it, Nokia has a deal with Pixelpipe. Nokia was smart enough to downgrade the cam on the E7 as to provide at least some reason of existence to the N8. It will take will power to boycott the N9 but a capacitive screen will surely help. The things going for the N8 are: -awesome to see your photo's on an HD plasma -bluetooth mouse / keyb control -HDMI movie playback / record -smart hybrid design: low end CPU running Symbian with sleeping but ready to use multimedia power via high end GPU. Battery life is really good if you are in a just phone period. |
Re: I will stick with N900
who will stick to the N900 when or if the N9 comes out?
|
Re: I will stick with N900
i will definitely stick with my n900 until n9 hits a reasonable price. say 6-8 months after launch day. i believe my n900 will be by my side at least this time next year

Re: I will stick with N900
Even with the release of the N9 I'll keep the N900. Soon, NITDroid will be done and we'll have Android 2.2, and MeeGo will be nicely ported in the next few months once there's a real release available.
The only thing I'm worried about is capacitive displays. With so many applications taking advantage of multitage, we may and are already losing some compatibility with Android and MeeGo. I prefer resistive, but if MeeGo is gesture-centric, we could be in trouble. I installed release 1.1 the other day and it seems like it's coming along pretty well, I wouldn't call it 1.1 though, more like .7 or .8 The N8 is sleek but Symbian 3 is a downgrade from Meamo 5. No interest in the E7 or any of those other new Symbian devices. N9 is appearently nice, but knowing Nokia, it'll probably have around an 800Mhz processor and 256MB of RAM. Overclock the N900 to 1Ghz, and I'm good to go on hardware. |

But if the N9 doesn't cut it ... well. Might buy a few more reserve N900s at that time! I'm still worried about MeeGo; I fear they'll ditch the excellent notification system on Maemo, that the resistive screen'll go, or that they'll do something else fashionable but bloody impractical. Time will tell. |
Re: I will stick with N900
I have an N8 as well as my N900 and after a fortnight still can't decide which device my main SiM should go in. I can print high quality photos from my N8. I can (easily) stick photos for work on a flash drive rather than email them.
I detest the way Symbian handles connections though and why do I keep tapping a blurred section when I want to multitask ? I miss the hardwarwe keyboard and Skype. I really miss Mcro B, the N8's browser is currently no better than an N97's. Notifications need a widget rather than have a double square that glows in the top right and a blue flash from the LED. The capacitive screen is much more innacurate but as sensitive as the N900 resistive. It has only 16 Gig of eMMC memory on board (boo !). I have to 'sign' .sis files to get them to install and run, they can't be shared either like a .deb Pluses for the N8 are the HDMI socket, the impressive camera (yes it is really good) USB on the go and er... thats it. Symbian 3 is a vast improvement on S60 v5 but it aint Fremantle. I know now why my N900 felt special when I first got it. It is a unique and quirky device we shall never see the likes of again. |
Re: I will stick with N900
i love my n900. it cost me usd600 so why would i replace it :) besides, my bros has an iphone and android and mine is the best :)

Re: I will stick with N900
i'll stick with n900 for a while. i'll go for meego if it's the same experience as with maemo. my second choice for os is either android or windows but too bad i hate snapdragon while hummingbird is great, i prefer htc over samsung.
there's no clear info as what will the n9's os will be but i hope it's meego with a good processor. i hope the hinge slide mechanism is like the n900 and not the n97. i barely used that form on my htc kaiser... right now, no phone meets my criteria just yet so i'll wait till that day and stick to my n900 for a while... |
Re: I will stick with N900
I'm sticking with mine until I can afford to replace it. It's gonna be a while.

Re: I will stick with N900
ok group hug time :D

Re: I will stick with N900
I'm on N900 no. 2. Briefly went back to my trusty N95 (no. 2) after bricking N900 no.1....! Fraid not! Pre touch Symbian was good for apps & phone stuff but has nothing on Maemo regards UI and intergration. My first N900 is off for warranty repair and will remain my backup machine. Meego...who knows? Perhaps i'll try but I think its a real shame Maemo wont get the chance to develop beyond 6...it has all the makings of a great OS.

Re: I will stick with N900
We cannot and should not compare N900 and N8. Here in Hong Kong, there is a difference of about USD130.00 on their price tags at launch date; which means N8 is 20% cheaper in price.
I bought a N8 for my wife last month. I played with it and like some of its function such as Front Camera, Virtual Keyboard, Chinese Input and Landscape/Protrait swap which are missing out or not working right right now on my N900 with MSCIM #1.4.7-1maemo15. There are also more exciting choices of game for N8 than N900. However, our N900 can do many more other tasks. I would not trade my N900 for N8 even though I am experiencing a hard time with my N900 regarding PenPower Chinese Input at the moment. In my opinion, N900 is more likely a man's side-arm; and for business people. For ladies like my wife, N900 would be too complicate for them and they would appreciate the streamline and lighter weight of N8 better. For youngsters who only concern music and games, they would also prefer N8 better. Talking about N900 vs N9, I am pretty sure it is NOKIA's attempt to attrract current N900 users to switch to N9 in a year; and then N9 to another new model in another year; and so on and on. It is business. If we all stick to one model for several or many years, NOKIA would be having hard time for insufficient turnover. TC |
Re: I will stick with N900
I just renewed my voda contract for another 12 months with double the minutes and internet allowance so this time next year I`ll start looking around whether there is something that could replace the N900 in my pocket. At the moment I can't imagine using anything else.
