Will you be buying a Samsung Galaxy Tab?
For me, with dual-core ARM processors just around the corner, I can't see myself buying any more single-core computers.
What are your thoughts? |
Re: Will you be buying a Samsung Galaxy Tab?
No.

Re: Will you be buying a Samsung Galaxy Tab?
No.
7" is too small for a tablet imo, and Android (2.2 at least) isnt very good for any kind of actual productivity on a tablet. Also, it's laughably expensive. |
Re: Will you be buying a Samsung Galaxy Tab?
As soon as it runs full Linux
|
Re: Will you be buying a Samsung Galaxy Tab?
It's a great device for non geeks. Not too big, not to small. Quick, fashionable, pleasant to use.
Cons: proprietary connector, not-too-great camera. |
Re: Will you be buying a Samsung Galaxy Tab?
I was definitely going to get one until the price was revealed. Now I am waiting to see what HTC has to offer or if there any other sensibly priced options.

Re: Will you be buying a Samsung Galaxy Tab?
No.
I think that paying $60 a month for phone access is crazy, regardless of the kind of phone. I think that phones are mostly hype and that most people who are buying expensive ones are wasting their money, kind of like the many, many people who buy a computer that has all kinds of fancy capabilities and then use it to send email. This is basically charity for tech companies. |
Re: Will you be buying a Samsung Galaxy Tab?
I will most likely get one. There are many metrics beyond processor speed that make a quality device and the Tab is incredibly well rounded in this regard. While there are faster units coming out, I suspect that the Tab will continue handle most tasks very well.
All of this is subjective, but I feel the Tab has: - Excellent screen - Excellent capacitive touch - Excellent form factor/weight - Excellent OS (please try not to yell!) :D - Excellent battery life - Excellent suite of software out-of-the-box - Excellent performance |

Not thinking of buying any Tab right now, but I'm keeping updated on what's to come... maybe next year.
|
Re: Will you be buying a Samsung Galaxy Tab?
No. I am already looking for a new phone, but I have rather specific features that I want and at the moment not a single one really fits my needs. Especially Galaxy Tab.
|
Re: Will you be buying a Samsung Galaxy Tab?
No. It is way too expensive. For that price, I expect at least a dual core non-mobile CPU and a full desktop OS. Also, an hole to put my stylus.
Just because it's sleek and slim and Apple has embraced the tablet market, doesn't mean I'm forgetting all my requirements for a tablet PC. |

If you need a secondary reason to use a stylus: until touch screen phones, it was an universal truth that KEEP YOUR FATTY FINGERS OFF MY SCREEN and you know what? Your fingers still smudge the screen. It's bad for the eyes. |
Re: Will you be buying a Samsung Galaxy Tab?
Btw, I bought my first tablet PC about 5 years ago, and if not for the fact that I can't get a new still working battery for it, I'd just slap a SSD in there and it'd still kick some srs Atom butt. 10.3" screen convertible tablet PC, 1.1 kilos.
As to resistive screen vs capacitive screen, I blame cheap *** hardware developers that we still even have that discussion. There are limitations with both technologies... And yet they keep using them. |

Re: Will you be buying a Samsung Galaxy Tab?
While I do like the tab a lot, I am still not totally convinced yet.
In fact the screen size is a factor now for me. I have a 4.3" screened phone so an upgrade to a 7" device doesn't look that attractive even though I was all for a 7" tab. From the viewpoint of serious computing - I.e. Coding for long periods, long writing and reading, I am thinking maybe a larger screen device (but lighter) may be what I need. Actually I am more confused on this than decided. Also the current price point is a no no for me. Maybe when a wifi only comes out at cheaper price then. Most probably I will just wait and see for some time. But Captn is correct, specs itself does not make or break a device. It's what it can do that matters, and I increasingly see the Tab doing quite a few things nicely. |
Re: Will you be buying a Samsung Galaxy Tab?
No.
I've played with it in a shop and it's a nice device. I would buy it if it wasn't so expensive.. |

I adore my Wacom. I despise and wish ill-will towards styluses and their kin. The Tab actually has a Bluetooth Stylus accessory for precision input, though it remains to be seen if it can behave like an active digitizer rather than a passive stylus, |
Re: Will you be buying a Samsung Galaxy Tab?
No. Too small and expensive.
|
Re: Will you be buying a Samsung Galaxy Tab?
No. Why? You buy it just because other people buying it?
|
Re: Will you be buying a Samsung Galaxy Tab?
No.
It's overpriced, it has phone OS that doesn't work very well on bigger screen(owners report most 3rd party apps don't adjust to the screen), to me 7" is kinda small screen. Should I mention how I dislike Samsung products in the mobile world? I agree that hardware aspect of the Tab is pretty good. Although not the same level as Playbook, obviously. |
Re: Will you be buying a Samsung Galaxy Tab?
I am a big fan of the form factor and have no doubt that one day I shall have a high quality 7” tablet. ATM I have a SMartQ 7 but the display is pants and is only enjoyable for ebook use
. My 5” Dell Streak performs so well and satisfactorily as a phone/tablet that I have no need for an additional device. I think that if I was still using my old Nokia phone or even my iPhone then I would be champing at the bit and popping into Carphone Warehouse desperate for a hands on of the Tab. If this is interpreted as a testimony to the all round beauty of the Streak then yes, please take it as such. Once technology moves on to 7” retina displays, Tegra 2’s, multicore cpu’s, maturing of Android/Chrome/MeeGo and so on, then the luxury of having an additional and larger device will likely be irresistible. |

The Tab is infinitely more portable than that and with no loss in functionality. My point is that I get the same functionality from the Streak as I would from the Tab. So I can't agree with you at all. To me, the concept here of portability is carrying one device. Each to his own of course, but what you are advocating comes outside the point of discussion on this device. |

Yaa boo sucks to samsung you might say, but - I called samsung about mid afternoon, reported the fault with them - 15 minutes later I got a call back from the local samsung authorised repair centre, who arranged to come to me THE NEXT MORNING and promptly replaced both the of the TV's boards (power and control). The guy was in my home for 15 minutes tops, less than 18 hours after calling samsung, and i've had a perfectly working TV ever since. Can't fault service like that. |

Re: Will you be buying a Samsung Galaxy Tab?
Update - change of mind.
I am buying one just as soon as someone produces a Target Motif wallpaper http://www.slashgear.com/brave-samsu...ideo-10113335/ This is one versatile device, bring it down to your shooting gallery, take potshots at it and then play Angry Birds on the way home. |

I'm sure I don't need to go into any detail to describe why someone would prefer it over an iPad, so I won't. But, I like the Tab. However, I prefer open source. Get maemo on it? Get a Maemo tablet? I don't know. I'm considering buying it but I'm direly anticipating waiting for something that won't make me regret spending a half grand on a Tab i'd be using for; - browsing, reading, phoning, geocaching, irc, vnc, shell, ftp, network / server engineering - Its early days yet. But I'd love to see something as personal as maemo on a tablet with some connectivity/integration and beefy hardware & battery life.... ...Dreams on... |
