Any ideas what to expect besides Skype? What sort of improvements are we looking at? I'm hoping for higher version of flash support and really smooth viewing of flash video.

Also, for audio, more codec support and better integration.

For Opera, more Java support. :)

Better integration of contacts+PIM stuff....if possible..

The only thing I hope is that Skype will not be part of the ITOS when it's released but a separate package. I wouldn't want to waste precious space.

Its an internet tablet, I want skype integrated into the same contact list as google, with more robust contact features. Connectivity is key, and on a small device I don't want to worry about loading apps, I just want it to work.

Considering that all these things are pretty much done, other than the package management... Maybe we're going to see Opera 9 Mobile on this firmware? That would make me so very happy. I understand that it has overview modes and built in zooming capabilities, I hope they implement that for us.

I like how the N800 renders websites, but it could definitely benefit from some better input / navigation.

Speaking of which, have you guys looked at the Foleo? Its running opera 9 mobile! its a sign ;)

Someone was throwing around June 11 in some earlier thread. Nobody can possibly verify this of course, so it's just a rumour at this stage.

Friday 29 June. My uncles brothers son met a very high ranking woman Nokia official in a karaoke bar where she confirmed the date in between renditions of Tainted Love (Soft Cell) and I Shot The Sheriff (Bob Marley). She murdered both songs, as you do. Oh, and apparently Paul McCartney turned up and sang some of his old numbers, but at this point I said he was making it all up.

EDIT: in all seriousness, someone's loose lips appear to have had a reaction. That's all I'll say on that matter, other than some people really need to shut the hell up... whether their info is right or wrong.

Texrat has only stated his opinion that 11 June is potentially unlikely - bear in mind that release dates change quite often during software development and it's possible your information is a little out of date. No need to lose your rag over it. :(

How about a forum bet that can be easily verified?

If it does indeed get released on June 11, I will start a thread stating that I am not worthy of belonging to the same forum as my new geek god, euchreprof and will refer to these posts.

If, on the other hand the next upgrade is released on any other day, you will refrain from posting anything that can not be verified by an independent third party.

In other words. No hear say. Not even if you heard it from Joe Nokia his own dang self.

Maybe that will help end all this "My stylus is bigger than your stylus." BS that has been happening around here lately.

If there's to be any financial bets, let the amount $10 or less ($100 is silly) - the amount is not actually important (apart from a personal income point of view) it's the winning/losing that is relevant. Heck, make it $1.

I really don't care what date you suggest, nor do I wish to enter into a potentially financial transaction with you. If you're right great, if not my opinion of you is unlikely to change.

I've only ever said Friday 29 June because it's the last working day in Q2 which is when Nokia promised Skype ("in Q2") and Nokia have released firmwares a few times on a Friday... sadly I know no insider sources at Nokia (apart from yourself, and you're not telling) so I've just made this date up to amuse myself. I wouldn't bet on this date either!

In my new position, I'm a little removed from my old sources (;)) so I have had to use indirect methods of gauging progress. That's all I'll divulge. If the new OS releases June 11, and Skype is also available, I will be pleasantly surprised. 'nuff said.

But I really will be in Finland then, so maybe I'll get to bother my old sources directly again. :D

You know, I develop software for a living. I have to give release dates to my users, but every now and again we find a bug during testing which delays our release date. I get it in the neck, but hey - sh1t happens.

Maybe the N800 firmware will be released on 11 June, but you really should apply a degree of uncertainty to your absolute statements unless you are in receipt of accurate daily updates from Nokia on the progress of the firmware. If your information was given to you a week or more ago - which I believe it was as you've been quoting it for some time now - it's entirely possible the date has changed in order to ensure a quality release.
