Hello,

I bought 2 n900 for me and my girl. I shopped around and chose N900 because it is not an apple product. I know this phone have skype video calling. i bought 2 for me and my girl so we can chat when i am deployed. I these are brand new in the box. i just updated these phone over wifi connection. the phones are currently on latest firmware which is pr 1.3. I used the pre install skype bundled in these N900 but only able to connect via voice call and IM. I dont have the video calling option. Some told me to update to the latest firmware which i already did. I also go to the app. manager and update everything there is to update yet i can't get video calling option. please help as for i am about to be deployed. my girl is clueless about this stuff. she only knows how to turn on the phone, hit the button and chat and shopping!! :D

please tell me if i need to do anything else. do i need to get the latest version of skype? where do i get it? i saw that it came preinstalled. Please help. thanks

have you bothered to google around?

you probably have a indian device or a device which has voip/skype callin disabled due to regional/national rules and regulations.

flash your device to "global firmware" and your issue will be resolved. This time google this info or search the forum before raising further query.

also check voip and im settings for skype availability.

if u got the latest firmware just select skype contact u want to video call and click skype video call.....

Guys i think this person is trolling , probably someone from previous thread related to Indian firmware , racism and skype in Ovi store etc... I wonder if moderator can look him up by IP address

check the voip setting and skype is available.

i just discovered something.

i used my laptop and connect to one of my n900 skype account. On my laptop i selected video calling because the option is there. all i had to do was hitting the answer button on my phone and i got Video calling. After that the video calling option is available for the contact i just use on my n900. new contact does not have video calling option on my phone. Weird??

as for flashing my phone! i currently have 1 year warranty with nokia. i dont want to risk losing the warranty.

as stated in my questions. i do have latest firmware but the video call option on skype is not there. i only have IM and voice call option

and as for you. i think u should keep that comment to yourself! u said u think that i am someone that trolls the forum and created issues. although u said u "think" but that is still an accusation! although u have lots of posts does not mean you can say stuff like that.

Any moderator here please check my IP to see if i am the person that he said. check my IP to see how many account is associated with this IP! probably one!..

constantly telling people to use search and shooting people down on this forum is awful, and its still going on a year after i joined!

i can confirm...i have a global firmware..and still i dont get video calling option now...people can video call me..but i cant.. :/ ! fux ?

I'll think you'll find that its because they cant help and its the only advice they can give, it really does pee me off.:mad: We are a community and this is what the forum is supposed to be, a way of sharing and getting the most out of a device that we have all spent a great deal of money on.

I think you need to check the Video call box in the settings of the Contacts list.
I had it off for a while but people could do skype calls with video with me, but i couldn't do skype calls with video to them.

Now you sound ridicilous, post and thanks count has nothing to do with what I said. yes I was suspecting and i had reason to do so. I wont apoligize and what i said is true there are people who troll and start flame wars I'm glad your're not one of them :)

and one more thing
As i mentioned there was a thread about exact same issue but it went in the wrong direction and mods closed it, hence some people were angry about it and they could have done something like that

SAMETHING happened to me bro. I just went to my phone dealer and he confirmed that it is an unlocked US version with 1 year warranty. it is not an Indian version phone!

Anyone have any real idea of how to make this work? Please let Rohan and I know. thanks

I dont have that option in my Contact Setting! Weird? Man, I might have to flash my phone!


actually I do! What i meant was that I still do not have video option after i unchecked that button and rechecked it again! No video calling option on my girl skype account. only IM and Voice Call

One thing i noticed instead. This cold be not related to what you are asking though.

I have that video calling option but this actually would work only if the account that i'm video calling to is logged into a Skype for windows. If this account i want to talk to is logged on a skyper for linux this would not work. I can start a video call but he would not get the video.
On the other side, the one at the skype for linux side cannot start a video cal to me even if the little camera and the mobile icons are shown aside me in the contact list! This is really annoying and worked in PR1.2!

Not the way to conduct yourself on a community forum, and as this is a community this thread is not owned by anyone (except maybe the TMO servers)

Can you confirm which firmware version you are using.
You can easily find this out by going menu -> settings -> about product.
Post up what it says under 'Version'.

Are you on GPRS or wifi? try switching between them. also try logging one account on the computer and see if you will be able to initiate the video call. also, try to call regularly and then hit options, turn camera on. let me know if this helps.

Got my video option to work!!!

My phone dealer got it to work!! and who said skype cannot be install separately?? u can install it separately... i just dont know how. i paid 10 bucks to the guy and he install a separate skype for me... it works now. video option available.

it seems like these phone dealers have some tricks in installing software or something. i asked but they refused to say. they tell me to bring my other phone to them for another 10 dollars and they will install.

oh well, i rather pay 20 bucks for 2 n900 rather than wasting endless hours on this. thanks guys.

Lol that is NOT true. Trust me the talk.maemo community knows more than the "dealers". I wonder if he just turned the feature on and tricked you :/ As of now, there is no third party app for N900, as it is integrated in the firmware. I guess it doesnt matter, glad it works :)

ok here i go!!!!! before reading this thread i had no the skype video call option on my N900, so what i did was update the version of the skype in my laptop to version 5 and voila now i have the video call option. i think the people needs to have the latest version of skype so they can have this option available. try it and enjoy

i dont wanna be rude dude but when people in here tell u it's impossible to install skype separatly u should at least give it a thought.
sometimes it's not a shame to say i'm newbie or not familiar with the phone and ask for step by step instructions.
maybe u had the solution in the below post....
which makes sense to me.......

oh dear. This long thread and i haven't still seen what version of skype op used on his computer.

We really need somekind of faq or small questions template on "how to ask help in correct way".

E.G. ask fw version and region while same time showing how to look it
ask installed software and version of apps on n900(show how this is done)
if needed ask installed apps on computer and version of apps.
