desktop dockbar?
 

Hi i've just found and installed desktop dockbar, before instalation i tried searching to se what it was but couldn't find any info anywhere:(
so i thought i'd install it and see for myself, but after instalation i cant find it anywhere, ive looked in the app list, settings, status menu, and even in the widgets.:confused:
Does anyone know what desktop dockbar actualy does?

Yes, I made it, its a simple dockbar.
I didn't made a thread because I'm testing it yet. I need to figure out how to allow multiple dockbars using different config files.
But it works fine if you want to try it.

Well done mate..
this is a great little widget for the homescreen and can only get better.

Found a quick way to get multiple dockbar widgets on your desktop by;

(1)install the app and place the widget on the screen,
(2)uninstall app (but keeping the widget onscreen),
(3)then reinstall app (now you have another dockbar onscreen)

You can do this as many times as you like...

Again great app. Really makes a difference to the look and feel of the homescreens.

One bug to note? For some reason i cannot locate the web icon shortcut to place in the dockbar.

when i first installed it yesterday, it would not even lauinch. there was an update today that made it work. the challenge is that after you choose all the items to put in it, after you reboot, it all disappears the data and puts the empty bar back on screen 1.


i am sure it will be fixed, but that has mbeen my experience so far.

When you have installed it.. it appears on the desktop. But as it has no short cuts in it.. is not very visible. It is transparent.

If it could work as the MicroB arrow it would be a very cool widget.

about me when i installed it even i didn't see anything on my desktop, but all i saw is when i want to put a new widget just the name and nothing else.
so any help ?!

Sounds like a great widget. I have been asking for the equivalent of the windows quick launch bar since I got my N900 and this is exactly what I need. I note from the screen shot that it is not right at the bottom of the screen so there is a bit of space wasted. Can it be moved any lower or is that a limitation in the N900?

Also I presume there is an option to set how many items you want to put in the dock bar. Correct?

One thing - it seems that it always find only the default icons, being with d4klar theme's I still get the original icons on the dockbar (didn't reboot yet so don't know if they stay there or not as someone reported before):

i posted a reply to nicolai, on switch desktop widget, i do think it is a very similar widget! could get in contact, as it was done usb hosmode and kernel-power! and also for fmrx and the notify widget! for the maemo communtity, i think it worth gathering than splitting!

This widget stills in beta
Now you can have multiple dockbars
But when you reboot they lost the icons
I will try to fix in a couple of days

to bad that the loose of shortcuts on a reboot makes it slightly unusable.

i totally agree with nightshift79, this does look like a great little app wih potential but its frustrating that you loose all settings upon phone reboot! can anyone please let us all know if this app is being worked on? can we expect updates to this app at all??

hi, nice app!

I have some suggestions/wishes for your app:

how about adding some buttons to the settings window to move defined apps up/down?

also a name filter (as you type, like in the AppSearch app) would be cool! So it would be easier/faster to add apps which starts with a 'z' f.e. ;)
and using multiple rows/columns or vertical dockbars...

Oh, I noticed that I can't add the app "Storage Usage", because its not listed in your app selector window!?

there is absolutly no need for the sarcastic comments what so ever! I did read all the coments but I happened to miss a few words. forgive me for being human. IMO if you cant be constructive then dont comment. its a shame because this is usually a fantastic community.

Two things I have to say:

1- I never made the announce thread of this app, and the reason is simple: this app is not finished!

2- I'm still working on this wigdet, and of course you will get a full working version with more features, like icons order and vertical dockbars. The reason why it's not updated yet is because I made this app in my work and I don't have the time to do it at home. Tomorrow I'll go back to my work and try to make the app work as it should

So please stop making comments about it doesn't work until I make the announce thread.

i waited ten months before I finally bought an N900. I am grateful that people such as CepiPerez and all other developers are working on apps for our devices. I sit patiently until their work is done. Kudos to all for their amazing work, a fan in New York City !

I made some big changes in the source code to make it work in a proper way.
Before add some features (like vertical dockbars and order icons) I will like you test the new version
You can download here.
It should appear in extras-devel too.

shortcuts are remembered upon reboot, but once phone boots up, i still need to add the widget but it then pops up with the remembered settings and place on the homescreens. after the reboot though i dont seem to find the dockbar in the widget list when i go to add another dockbar on another homescreen. i mamages to add 3 then rebooted phone. now i am unable to add more. other than that this is a great app. thanks

Hi!! I'am very glad for the homescreen dockbar's update. It realy works great!!! Good job. Finally, we can have separate dockbars for each desktop, and if we restart the system, it still runs, you don't have to rearange..

Looks great!

U plan to release this on extras-devel, I have made a homescreen widget too with Qt and I'm having huge problems making the pacakge work in the autobuilder. The builder passes fine, but the deb is not built properly. As a matter of fact there is no app in the deb after the autobuilder.

If you have any suggestions how to make a correct rules file for the autobuilder that it will build the widget ok. I think the problem is in that you should run qmake before make.
I have tried to solve the problem like this:
But that does not pass the auto builder.
If i put it like this:
The autobuilder is passed fine, but no binary is created in the deb file.

I'm so out of suggestions. Any help would be highly appreciated.

Do you happen to know if it is possible to make a widget 'sticky' so that it doesn't scroll with the desktop? This is a sweet widget already but I've been hoping that someone found a way to create a dock that stays fixed on what ever edge of the screen I set it up.

1 thing ive noticed is you accidently launch an app on the dockbar if you swipe the screen whilst touching the dockbar, maybe needs looking at.

Uploaded version 0.0.4 to extras-devel builder.
Should appear in repos soon

- Changed icons state from "pressed" to "released"
- Added vertical dockbar
- Added autorotation for icons
- Added quicksearch bar in "add item" window


This widget should get the current theme icons for each app.
Please let me know what are the apps that still showing hicolor icons.

the above sounds like a great feature for dockbar. At least if it is even possible to make the dockbar sticky.

you have any plans to make the look of the bar customizable?
So I can add my on png as bar... would be nice to make the bar fit with themes.

It seems the current version is missing some applications from the list. For instance I can't seem to be able select/add the Web Browser or Qspot as they don't even appear on the list. Is this a known issue?

thanks for sharing your update!

loads of great additional functionality. 1 problem i am experiencing since installation of the uodate is now when i boot the phone up and it gets to adding the widgets to the homescreens, when it gets to adding the dockbars it now crashes the hildon homscreen and i have to manually add all widgets every time? is anyone else experiencing this??

Sh*t, vertical dockbars runs always the first app. I'll fix it tomorrow.

@xenomorph72: are you using PR1.3? Did you install some modified hildon-desktop or hildon-home?

Thanks for another great application for Maemo. :)

I installed version 0.0.4 and it worked as expected.
Even after a reboot the dockbar auto reloaded with all the application's icons.

In my device i only have a problem - there are several installed applications that don´t appear in the "add item" window.
For instance i can't add the "storage usage" application (a very nice and useful app by the way).
Can't understand why as the ".desktop" file is in /usr/share/applications/hildon and i can add a shortcut to the desktop. :confused:

Just 2 requests / suggestions:
- move the remove option in the "add item" window from the end to the top of the list
- an insert option would also be very useful to keep the icon order.
