Cover art not showing for aac files

Hi,
I have my music files in 64k aacp files. I prefer that because they need half of the storage place.(10.000 files)
I know the two methods to have album art in N900. But neither cover.jpg (which I prefer) nor mp3tag method is working with aacp files. I have checked both methods with mp3, they are ok.
- I found this bug reported and patched but I don't know how to apply and I don't know if it's safe or not: https://bugs.maemo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=9316
- I have installed and loved Mussorgsky, but I have original files as Flac on my server and don't want to manually do that job twice.

Any ideas how to fix this problem?

Is everybody using mp3 with mediaplayer? Does anybody have the same problem, any workaround, any solution?:(

I have that same issue with FLAC files. I've been wanting to try out that patch but haven't had the time

I think the problem exist for all non-mp3 files. Do you know how to apply that patch?

Cover art embedded in flac works for me.

Re: Cover art not showing for aac files

Right, as the bug says, all non-mp3 files exhibit this problem. This has nothing to do with embedded art. Seems like we need to clone tracker git, branch out to version 0.6.95, apply the patch, compile it, then just copy the raw tracker-extract executable over. I don't have the SDK set up right now to do it

jflatt,
Ok, this seems out of my league! Let us know if that works for you, or if you have a solution for general user.

I also have all my music also in 64 bps AAC. I am using iTunes to manage my music and have embedded the cover art in the AAC -files. This works very well. You need to embed the cover and not use the Apple style cover art as that is not embedded.

Perhaps I should refer you to the thread titled "Please stop saying that the built in media player does not support cover art unless it is embedded in the song's tag"

Re: Cover art not showing for aac files

WTF?

I was saying that with my AAC -files the cover art works when it is embedded. And that's what was the problem in the first place.

Sorry if I didn't get you but I was just trying to help here.

To be more specific, my files are aac+; I think i-Tunes only supports aac.(??)
I have embedded covers with mp3tag to the files, but didn't work with my aac+ files. Same works with mp3 files.

Yeah might be true that iTunes only supports AAC not AAC+.

You don't need to pullanything fron Git, the patch should apply cleanly in the latest Maemo version.

Cool, thanks for the patch. Any chance you have the binary already? It would save me a night of installing scratchbox

This is what I use:
http://depot.javispedro.com/nit/trac...+0m5_armel.deb

Note: PR1.3 only. It has an extra similar patch included that also helps with some album art not recognised for no visible reason. See http://depot.javispedro.com/nit/tracker/README and http://depot.javispedro.com/nit/tracker/ for the source.

Re: Cover art not showing for aac files

It didn't seem to work for me with FLAC files and a cover.jpg in the same directory. I installed with
dpkg -i tracker_0.6.95-35maemo1+0m5_armel.deb
and didn't get any errors. Also tried a reboot, and
tracker-processes -r
a few times to reset. I even copied in a new folder and that didn't get an image recognized. Is there any way to debug tracker when it runs?

mkkyah 2010-12-15 14:48

Re: Cover art not showing for aac files

I have also installed as dpkg -i tracker_0.6.95-35maemo1+0m5_armel.deb from terminal.
It seems like it worked for me (with aac+). Indexing still continues.
I will also check it with Flac and let you know.

Re: Cover art not showing for aac files

Acc+ files with cover.jpg in the forlder are fine.:)
Embedded covers still not working.
I'm not sure if this happened after the patch, tracker is not indexing Flac files. I mean, I cant see any Flac files under albums or songs listing. (restarted, cleared cache etc.) Flacs are there and I can choose them from file manager or filebox, they are playable without cover.

Re: Cover art not showing for aac files

I have no idea about FLACs, as I do not use the extra decoders support. I do not think the patches would cause new issues with FLACs, but rather than upgrading the package probably overwrote something related to the Extra decoders package.

mkkyah 2010-12-16 10:43

Re: Cover art not showing for aac files

javispedro & jflatt Thanks for so far; that solved my aac+ library problem.

Can someone with standard tracker+extra decoders support confirm that Flacs are indexed in media player?

jflatt 2010-12-16 17:18

Re: Cover art not showing for aac files

I have to do (as root)
update-tracker-ontology -c Music -a audio/x-flac
in order for tracker to pick up FLAC, even with extra decoder support added. This was happenning before the patch, and may have come up from PR1.3

This patch works. I used to have problem with cover.jpg cover arts not becoming visible but this fixes it.

However, I still have a problem with id tags in M4A files (I assume that these are aac files becouse they were created by iTunes or purchased from there). Every time Tracker indexes my media files it somehow skips over some of these files which results them beeing seen as "unknown artist". This is annoying.

I can't fix the database by reindexing because every time different songs are skipped. Mussorgsky can't help either because it does not work with aac files (it just shows that id tags seem to lag information but does not allow to fix them). Is there any way to force Tracker to index/scan just a one file/folder so that I could manually add the missed songs to song library?

It would be great if these could be included in the CSSU. Do you have plans for that?

Re: Cover art not showing for aac files

Yes. I am actually considering upgrading to the Harmattan version of tracker (but that would be for the -testing branch).

If anything breaks I'll probably settle with my current patched tracker, though, as I do not think I will have time to fix lots of breakage :(

By the way, the patched tracker on my site just got a new patch that helps if you have mountpoints under non-indexed roots (maemo tracker currently always indexes sdcard/mmc mountpoints even if they're on a .config/tracker exclusion list).
