http://liliputing.com/2010/11/ocosmo...-released.html
The Ocosmos Ocs-1 has been updated with new specs and a some what solid release. The device will be released Q1 of 2011. The device also now has a 3g radio which will be compatible with At&t. Ocosmos claims the battery will get 10 hours and even more battery with the extended battery. Pricing will probably be around 400-500 dollars. the specifications have been changed, here are the new specs
Processor: 1.5ghz Intel Atom Oaktrail or 1.9ghz Intel Atom Oaktrail
GPU: Intel GMA600
Storage: 32gb ssd plus microsdhc expansion
Screen: 5inch 1024x768 instead capacitive touchscreen instead of a 4.8inch 1024x600 capacitive
Camera: 1.3mp webcam and 5mp back camera instead of 3.2mp
Connectivity: mini usb slave, full size usb host, 3g, Wifi
802.11b/g/n, Bluetooth.
Ram: 1gb or 2gb
All I know is that I want one soon, and that this would be the perfect n810 replacement.

That thing does nowhere near play StarCraft II (I already tried on the Lenovo IdeaPad, which has beefier specs...)

Well bear in this device has a newer version of the Intel Atom while your Ideapad had an older version.

Unless the GMA 600 (which is basically a beefed up SGX which is the 3D chipset you can find on the N900) is better than the GMA3150 (Intel old PC 3D card design), I doubt it :D

Why not Meego? Remember that Intel is behind it.

Why not Meego? The good thing about it is that Intel is behind it so it will run as well if not better than on Arm.

I prefer Ubuntu that's why, but anyways MeeGo would be good too.

two cons in my view:

1. judging from the photo, it looks to me the physical size approaches that of the Archos 70(ie. a 7" pad); but only a 5" inch display.

2. this thing runs win7; can one load something else on it?(say..android or other )

Well it is smaller than than an Archos 70 and it fits in your pocket. This thing is about the size of a Viliv n5 or Viliv s5 both of which are perfectly pocketable. Well you probably could put another os on it because it is a full x86 pc, but the only issues I could think of are the GMA600 drivers or the Touchscreen drivers.

i can imagine the Omos keys will be great for emulators.

Re: Ocosmos Ocs1-TC, Nokia Internet Tablet Killer

This is in many ways what I wanted the n900 to be because Nokia ruined the nseries tablets by making them into phones shrinking there screens and removing usb host.

If that device could run Maemo 5 it will be my device for about 10 years. Windows 7 is not optimal for this kind of devices.

Why not just install a Linux distro like Ubuntu, Android, Xandros, Damn Small Linux, or MeeGo.

Yah the only problem with getting Linux on here is drivers. The Omos keys will definitely by problematic for drivers to, but I'm sure the community or Ocosmos will give us open source drivers.

Yah this thing would have been perfect for managing my Linux servers, Using it as a Linux server, playing emulators, Doing productivity through Openoffice.org, watching some Media with VlC, and playing some opensource games like openarena. I sure linux drivers will be made however.

This device has an absolutely perfect form factor, they also did a wonderful job on the design, and because it is x86 you don't deal with the limitations of other mobile devices.

How does this thing compare to the Viliv n5?

I see bugs around GMA 600 support listed as fixed in the MeeGo 1.1 Handset release:

http://bugs.meego.com/show_bug.cgi?id=3903

We don't really know how performance will be. I'm sure this will be great for Halo, OpenArena, PSx Emulation, Sid Meier's Pirates, Sid Meier's Railroads, Civilization 4, Dreamcast Emulation, and older games. Also the 10hours or more of battery life and the amazingly large high resolution make this perfect for VLC or other Media playback. This thing could could also be used for productivity through Openoffice.org. This would also be perfect for on the go voice over ip and video chatting. Th 5mp camera will be very useful for facebook and youtube. This thing has flash 10.1 so I can view websites other than youtube. This thing would also be great for managing and being used as a Linux LAMP server. Anyways I'm thrilled about this device. Also this is great because no more begging for promises that Nokia will never fulfill like Flash 10.1, various games, Meego upgrade and many of the other Nokia could have easily provided, but were too greedy to do so, instead I can install all of those things myself on the Ocs1. the Usb host functionality is something I wanted out of the n900 but it never got it. This has a REAL keyboard unlike most devices coming out these days.

@railroadmaster

wow, you should really hit the Enter button more often.

Anyways, this thing looks a little larger than the original PSP but slightly smaller than a 7". So as far as portability goes, this is not pocket friendly (not portable) but it will quite easily fit into handbags/coat pockets (portable) - so it's in the lukewarm spot imho.

I think if MeeGo fixes the GPU support/driver issues that Intel's (and most other distros) being plagued with, then this baby should fly!

All it needs is MeeGo to develop a new framework for open gpu driver support (actually to promote and influence this), gets a good/finger friendly user interface and fixes whatever bugs (ie touchscreen response etc etc) ... this should blow the water off the Samsung Galaxy Tab.

Like you, I was initially trilled by the Lenovo S10-3T (which as I was saying has a more performing CPU, GPU, and a bigger batter pack) and I've been trying to do many thiings with it. However, I've been severily deceived by the Atom. It feels more like the N900 than a x86 laptop.

I seriously doubt you will be able to play Civ4 on it. Not to mention that I doubt you will be able to get a 10h figure playing on it as you really cannot on the Lenovo which has an order of magnitude better battery.

The form factor is not bad and I'm sure it will have its uses, but it is far from a PC-like gaming machine as the ad seemingly says.

Seems pretty useless toy. And why every friggin' device has to be used to play games nowadays? :D

What about the exact same device but running Froyo and a Tegra 2 under the hood?

Would that be more enticing than Oak Trail + Win7?

Well I'd say the size of this thing is about that of the Viliv s5, which is perfectly pocketable. As for MeeGo lets hope this is a supported device. I think the Ubuntu touch interface would work well on this. This is better than the Galaxy Tab smaller, cheaper, and better battery life. I think Ocosmos would have been better off with using the low end Amd fusion rather than Atom.

Maybe for Pc gaming this thing will probably be very limited but still capable of older stuff. However we really don't what the battery life is like because this is a newer Intel Atom with a Lithium polymer battery instead of older Intel Atom with a Lithium ion battery.
