Invisible Homescreens
EDIT: with the awesome help of Blaizzen and Etuoyo Ive got most of my homescreen to disappear.
My main goal is to have as little as possible on my homescreens. Basic idea is to be able to press certain points on the wallpaper image to launch different applications. Etuoyo supplied txtfiles to create qbw that launch microB, conversations, contacts, settings and phone. What I now need help for are the following: - fMMS - X-term - File Manager - Opera - Application Manager - MediaBox - Media Launcher - Photos Also: how can I remove the clock, remove the menu key at the top left of the screen (I want it visible only when Ive recieved a text/IM message or phonecall or mms, invisible at all other times)? Id love to be able to have only the little blob of info that shows connection strength for 2g/2.5g/3g/3.5g, battery, online/offline status, and connections. If possible, Id love even more to have them hidden as well, but show up on press, like the status menu that drops down when pressing that area normally. Does this make sense =P ? Anyways, Id appreciate any and all help wih this project. The original post: Quote:

Re: Invisible Shortcuts?
Hi... don't spam multiple threads with repeats of the same question. (Power kernel installs an icon on your application menu that's called "Deinstall power kernel" or something like that. If you don't have that, then install rootsh, open x-term, become root, and become and type... you know what, I'm tired, and this isn't even on-topic. Do a search.
slai: Yeah, I think QBW is the best way to do it. Perhaps you can modify the .desktop files of the apps to have no icon, or a purely transparent one? That saves you the trouble of figuring out QBW... However, if you can come to talk.maemo.org from just your N900, it should be easy to browse the wiki and forum for instructions on setting up QB widgets. |
Re: Invisible Shortcuts?
I would suggest QBW (Queen Beecon Widget) as the easier and more flexible one one if you can spare some time to figure out the options. It has advantages like configuring the widget size, etc
Running apps/scripts are easy using QBW, but I havent yet figured out a way to open the phone/messaging/email/etc using QBW. |

You would need to put your own png files with the relevant name in your queen beecon picture directory. |

And some more application beecons.
If you want transparent shortcuts to launch these apps you just need to put a transparent file in your beecon picture directory and then in command title settings change the name of the png file to the name of that transparent file. |
Re: Invisible Shortcuts?
Oh that seems reasonable, thanks for the help Etuoyo!
How can I create transparent icons on my N900 (seeing as how I dont have a computer to create them)? |

Re: Invisible Shortcuts?
ah I thought that was the case, but being at work Ive got limited time to scrutinize =P
Thanks a ton! Ill try to get this done tonight, maybe Ill have the most clutterfree desktop ever ;) . |
Re: Invisible Shortcuts?
Etuoyo, got any idea where I can find txts similiar to those you provided earlier, only for these apps:
fMMS Application Manager X-term Images MediaBox Media Player FastSMS ? EDIT: edited the OP to include these things and also a few more things Im pondering =) . |
Re: Invisible Homescreens
why use queen beecon when you can just make all the normal shortcut icons transparent?
did you look in the huge mods thread that contains every icon mod you could possibly think of and their location, i think its in the fremantle section |
Re: Invisible Homescreens
Because I have no idea how to do that, I only know how to remove the background shade of the icons. Also: resizing icons is hugely helpful for the overall goal of having hotkeys match points on the wallpapers =) .

Re: Invisible Homescreens
i didn't get the (invisible homescreen) idea ! from your screenshots if you mean transparent icons in the desktop you can go into your theme folder ---> images , then delete (or change name) a picture called appbackground.png or something like that

To explain: this is one of my homescreens. Ive made it so that when I press the largest blossomleaf in the wind, it launches microB. When I press her right side eye it launches contacts, the mouth is conversations, and the ear/blossom is phone app. I want fMMS on her left eye as well, and Id like all my homescreens to operate like this. Point is to have (almost) nothing showing except the wallpaper, but hide the shortcuts in the wallpaper design. |
Re: Invisible Homescreens
Super nice xd

Re: Invisible Homescreens
so use filebox to overwrite the app icons with transparent ones
if you want to resize the clickable area use theme customizer, its a pretty easy thing to do if im honest, but doing it to every homescreen will be mega confusing as your not gonna remember where things all are a safer idea is to make and install a transparent icon pack and apply it with theme customizer, then your not overwriting the originals |
Re: Invisible Homescreens
do you want me to do this for you?
|
Re: Invisible Homescreens
hm with resizing using theme customizer theyd all be the same size, which wouldnt be ideal.
As said Ive allready done this with conversations, file manager, phone, contacts and microB using queen beeconwidgets, is there a drawback to using qbw, leetut? |

dbus-send --type=method_call --dest=com.nokia.HildonDesktop.AppMgr /com/nokia/HildonDesktop/AppMgr com.nokia.HildonDesktop.AppMgr.LaunchApplication string:"katana" You just need to replace katana in the command with the relevant input for the application you want. To find out what name you need to put for any application just check this folder: /usr/share/applications/hildon (do not put in the .desktop extension). To save the new beecon you have created go to advanced then select export command to buffer, export beecon to buffer and then export buffer to file and then save it anywhere you want on the device. So if you want to use the same command and png on a different desktop (or in case your widgets disappear or you reflash) you can just import the file you saved. |
Re: Invisible Homescreens
perfect! thanks a bunch, etuoyo!
any idea on hiding the rest of my screen ;) ? |

Is my main screen, left eye is fmms, right eye is contact, mouth is conversations, ear/blossom is phone, large leaf in the wind is microb, the lowest leaf is opera, the smaller one above it is fennec. http://img232.imageshack.us/img232/1...239800x480.jpg Is for media. Eye is photos, headphone bell is media player. http://img80.imageshack.us/img80/400/12892800x480.jpg Tits/heart is Xterm, notepad in her hands is notes, calendar is calendar, drawers are file manager, pen on the desk is sketch. |
Re: Invisible Homescreens
I would say that QBW is the way to go. You can have icons with individual sizes as well as no need to worry about corrupting the original icon files. Pretty awesome idea u got there.

Re: Invisible Homescreens
I scrolled through real quick, so someone might have already said one of these solutions.
If you want to hide the clock, I'm pretty sure powatool can do it. It's two functions are to disable the boot video and disable certain elements of the toolbar. Also, you might have luck installing the advanced clock from the repos. When I installed it, even after reboot, it just removed my clock entirely. I'm sure it was just missing dependencies or something, but hey, it's worth a shot. |
