What now?

Shouldn't Nokia announce stuff about MeeGo late 2010? Has anyone heard anything, or has something written between the lines suddenly kicked in (again) ? Just wondering.

I think that MeeGo is going to emerge in 2011. Maybe someone will comment that it is only step one of four -- companies, like politicians, are fond of pointing to utopias just over the horizon, which eternally recede.

Meego will be released with a pre-installed version of Duke Nukem Forever.

I just wish Nokia would meet a deadline. First MeeGo device released in time for the holidays my ***. N8 delayed, E7 delayed, N9 will likely make it out by 2014.

Re: What now?

If the rumors about the specs and some directions in the software developments are true, then we have anyway to wait for the successor of the N9. :(

So, 2014 could get true. So protect your N900 until a vendor will publish a similar Device. I'm afraid that we have to wait a log time.

Re: What now?

no meego devices before AT LEAST q2, or q3 2011, i blame symbian, nokia had all their focus on symbian in the past year and they are NOW putting all their forces on meego (probably because symbian sucked :D ) .
yes meego will be ahead of its time, but its going to be left back becasue of its hardware, from what i can see the n9 will run on a snapdragon 1 ghz, with 512 mb of rams, thats old, dual cores are already starting to come out, so by q3 2011 their would be 1.5 dual cores android devices out there, are you reading NOKIA ?
i just hope intel will release a decent meego device, lets hope that intel atom will deliver 1.2 (or more) ghz .
this is intel's meego device

how sexy is that ??

Re: What now?

I thought a new CEO would open up the lines of communication between the consumer and Nokia ... it seems information is becoming quite scarce as of late. Uncertainty and rumors flying about is not good for consumer confidence.

I'm a hold out for a new MeeGo device but give me an estimate of how long, or are you guys even sticking with MeeGo ... it was around January - February when Maemo got canned for MeeGo, will MeeGo now get canned for WP7 now? Nokia, shut these rumors down asap.

Symbian puts the food on Nokia's table.
Maemo is the prodigal son with high hopes and dreams.

Personally I doubt that he'll realize his full potential, we'll see.

Let them work. It is better not to release any device without a proper MeeGo implementation(maybe version 1.3?). If the first MeeGo device becomes a disaster, then the project might be cancelled and we would be left with Symbian :)

But if nobody is asking, how would they know what we want? ;)

And I'm talking about Software. Not Hardware specs like prozessors. I don't want to have the "bigger" phone than my neighbour. It's not a question of GHz or simple names and brands like Snapdragon. Thats only a Name - and not a saviour.
I'm talking about stuff that makes the Device useful and multilateral.

The rumors "iPhone like browser and feeling" are very sad. And I'm afraid that the management could really take such kind of decision without realising that not everybody wants a iPhone. The people who want's a iPhone could buy one. But what about the rest of the market?

The other thing is the Atom sticker. Maybe a black and white imprint on the back cover, like how the N900 has a Carl Zeiss imprint on the lens cover, but a thick removable sticker on the back side of a slate phone just seems fishy.

Anyway, I don't care for just "letting them work". We did. From February til the holiday season. Nokia and Intel are fairly large companies. They could throw 600 developers on Symbian and 600 developers on MeeGo if they wanted to. Nokia just sucks at deadlines, and it'll hurt them in the long run, already has.

Re: What now?

Seriously, the official word from Nokia (I guess someone can dig up this) was that Nokia will announce MeeGo devices and/or MeeGo plans late 2010. It is getting very late 2010 now. This is not good for MeeGo, and if it's not good for MeeGo, it must be good for someone/something else. Hmmm

Intel Atom Morestown should deliver betwen 1.5 and 1.8 GHz with improved energy consumption according to Intel. That's before OC ;) I'd love to give you a link, but it was quite long time since I read it (in October).

The "Intel" device in picture is the backside of Aava Virta. It's real device, but only a development device, not a commercial product and not made by Intel.

Good to know. Haven't paid much attention to the Aava, more concerned about N900 MeeGo.

Nokia already said they weren't gonna release any MeeGo devices til Q1 2011, which probably won't happen anyway. I read it on Engadget back in like November.

Something I've been thinking about lately, is that I wish the manufacturers wouldn't push clock speed so much. If most computer hobbiests know for fact that clock speed isnt everything, why don't they?

What I mean, for those who don't know, is that an Intel i3 clocked at 2.0Ghz will destroy an Intel Pentium clocked at 2.6Ghz when it comes to performance. Newer, faster tech.

Well I have my hopes on the NITdroid developers. Once they get SMS/Call functions 100% working I'm gonna use Android. (I hope they find a way to sync SMS/contacts from Maemo)
