USB problem with N900
Hello All,
I know the USB problem isn't new (I've searched a read through a lot of posts on it) but I seem to have a peculiar problem that no one has addressed. Please be patient with me as I just joined the forum. My N900 has been working fine for almost a year and I have been careful with the USB port. But recently, the battery was flat and the device wouldn't charge anymore - either via the wall charger or USB to PC. The phone did not drop neither is the USB port broken - at least physically (it was perfect till the battery went flat). I charged the battery using another phone and re-inserted it to my phone. It came on and worked fine except that plugging the USB to PC wouldn't work. Both Linux and Windows desktops won't see it - not even an alert that a USB device is connected to the desktops. Also, the wall charger is not charging the phone battery. I tried reflashing the phone (thinking it was a software error) but I get stuck at Suitable USB device not found, waiting Following the the procedure (While holding the u key, connect the N900 to your computer via USB. Wait until you see a dim screen on your N900 with a Nokia logo in the middle of your screen with an USB icon in the top right corner) described in the Upgrading the tablet firmware page, I successfully get the device to the flash mode, but the systems do not see it. Please, what else can I do? |
Re: USB problem with N900
Perhaps a solder crack has developed; it can be just as if the whole assembly detached.
Does Code:
lsusb |
Re: USB problem with N900
Thanks handaxe.
lsusb gives Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 What does this mean? |
Re: USB problem with N900
below is the output of lsb -v
Code:
Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 I don't quite understand it but can you check it up if there's anything out of place? thanks, again. |
Re: USB problem with N900
Hi,
I just had the same problem with my N900. I took it to Nokia Care and they send it to get fixed. In two weeks I got message the phone is ready to pick up. They gave me new device instead of fixing the old one. I hope this helps. Olli |
Re: USB problem with N900
Thanks Opa.
I guess I have to take mine to Nokia Care too. Problem is I bought it in US and I am currently in Nigeria. I hope the warranty extends to another country. Anyway, thanks. |
Re: USB problem with N900
Sorry for delay - the output of "lsusb" simply means your usb sub-system is present and as far as the OS is concerned, functional. I think it tends to point to a hardware problem as I mentioned: cracked solder /connection. How long is your warranty.... good luck to you...

Re: USB problem with N900
Okay. Nokia Care it is then.
My warranty is one year, I think, and it expires this January. Will take it there ASAP. Thanks for your assistance. |
Re: USB problem with N900
My phone was 13 months old and they didn't even ask when it was bought. There shouldn't be any problem with waranty.

Re: USB problem with N900
I too have the same problem the phone is less than 1 year Just stop charging but didnt notice as while battery was full still workin until i noticed the day it stopped charging or USB linking to PC i had no internet Connection.
I took back to carphone warehouse as thats were i purchased explained i read it was a firm ware problem but because i was now unable to charge my battery which was flat i was unable to switch on at all. The took in for repair under warrenty but contacted me 4 days later ( ON CHRISTAMS DAY!!!) to say it was water damage......which it wasnt......and the the warrenty is invalid!ARGHHHHH i spoke with NOKIA who told me to send to them....but im not very happy......:mad::mad: |
Re: USB problem with N900
@move2leeds: whao! what an experience. Have you sent it to Nokia and were they able to fix it?
I took mine to Nokia Care today and they've collected it for fixing. Unfortunately, they told me I don't have warranty in Nigeria as I bought the phone from US (US warranty doesn't get down here). I'm waiting for it to be returned working perfectly. |
Re: USB problem with N900
I am facing a similar problem. Though i have found a temporary solution to this. Wanted to describe my problem in a new thread when this thread popped up. (This thread dint show up in the power search though for some reason )
Here goes.. Connect the charger to the phone. 1.open xterm 2.type sudo gainroot 3.stop bme it should end with waiting 4.start bme within 10 seconds the charging notification will show. (Atleast thats what happens with mine) Now the problem is after the battery is full and i remove the charger it still shows charging and the light keeps glowing untill i do a reboot. Also charging works when i switch off the phone. Does any one on the forum know what could be the problem with my phone.. Thanks a lot for helping in advance. |
Re: USB problem with N900
Any one has any idea about the problem stated above?
|
Re: USB problem with N900
I have no exact idea, but am thinking a reflash may be something to try. You have shown the hardware is working to a great degree.
|
Re: USB problem with N900
I did reflash the device. but the problem persists. Is there any way to test if the bq24150 chip is working fine?

Re: USB problem with N900
Jeez! I thought this was supposed to be old news by now??

Re: USB problem with N900
I'm having this dilemma right now....having a hard time charging it with 3 different chargers. It just won't charge at all. What to do?
