made a few changes to yellownotes widget

Changes:

- bigger, customizable icons, now at the bottom of the widget
- bigger scroll bar
- max size now 800x420 (full available desktop)
- go from note 1->50 50->1
- click text field to show/hide tool bar
- the 1/3 (max 160 pixel) left and right are used for previous, next note
- show images (automatic resizes to note)
- the tool bar is now 2 parts. Toggled with the left button.
-table of contents when note number is pressed
-direct paste/copy into/from the widget (icons in the middle)
-notes reduced to 50
- added button for new/empty note
- direct paste goes directly to a new note
- "erase" note now deletes note. Old empty notes have to be deleted by hand to have direct paste working properly.

Notes are stored in ~./yellownotes. Any text file (name:note0xx) should work (maybe not windows .txt files)

You can send the output of a shell command directly to a note.
( ls >.yellownotes/note050)

To choose an image as note type as note:

#PiC#=/path/to/pic/#
(exact: #PiC#=)
(The line has to end with#)

Copy the files from the archive to usr/lib/hildon-desktop/ as a quick solution. Yellownotes-widget should be installed, but not running.

Copy the icons to ~/.yellownotes/

src is source

yellownotes-applet-fremantle_0.5.3_armel-old.deb is the original yellownotes with bigger icons

yellownotes-applet-fremantle_0.5.3_armel-new.deb is the newest version. Icons have to be copied from yna_mod.tar.gz.

As the only feedback I got here is a trollpost, I'd like to ask if anyone is interested in improvements for yellownotes.

No problem if not, I'll post my changes anyway as long as somebody is downloading them. Just looking for inspiration.

Hmm this looks like a nice mod. BTW is the scrollbars that big?d If so it should be finger friendly. Downloading

Definitely interested. In fact I am now using a Samsung android Tablet and wishing that below notes was present there. None of the million android notes widgets come close as none allow multiple pages. And sticky notes on maemo doesn't match below notes because you cannot resize and the toolbars prevent it being fully transparent. Will give this a try. Quite like the ability to have real full screen now.

One issue I have with yellow notes is that when my device starts up the extreme left edge of notes is cut off. Problem fixes itself when I change note page or go into settings or edit but still a bit annoying switching to my desktop with the notes and seeing part cut off initially.

Yes, it seems some parts of the widget have been packed in a wrong manner. Didn't change this yet, because I'm planning a portrait view. And with this I'll have to change some parts anyway.

I have been using Yellow notes froma very long time.

I did not know that it had been updated becuase it does not seem to be in the repos.

How can i download the updated version and when will this appear in the repos as an .deb file.

@sethkha: nice update, didn't notice this thread until now. I had previously been using your bigger icons mod. I just installed these mods. I like the new icons and features, but would like to revert back to your older mod because the new minimum allowable width of the widget is too wide for my needs due to the extra icons. Though, you have removed the link to your old mod from your post in the old thread. Can you repost those mods or are they long gone?

by now i had no time for a real update. As it has no high priority on my todo list it's unlikely that it will ever happen. Try to install it the described way on the first post. I'll make a deb if you want.

I have the old versions somewhere. As I have to compile it again anyway, I could simply remove some icons from the gui of the new version for you. You'll have to tell me which icons to remove.
If you want one of the old versions I'll have a look.

I preferred the simpler layout with the large icons for switching between notes, for editing current note, and for deleting current note. This lets me use a widget width of 315 (or less). Thanks.

Thanks, sethka. I uninstalled the version I had installed (newest version from repos) and installed your old version deb and the icons are still small like in the original. I also tried separately copying the icons and files from the mods tar and it just made it like the new version. What am I doing wrong?

sethkha, I use YellowNotes on a daily basis as a "to do" reminder list and for random note taking. I greatly appreciate your improvements. You've made it my favorite widget.

I was playing around with the icons today, and noticed that the edit icon in the older widget layout doesn't seem to be pulling the corresponding edit_n.png image from ~/.yellownotes/ (as seen in my screenshot above). Can you help?

Also, I really like how you've increased the on-screen size of the edit function box with your new widget version. Can this be incorporated into the older layout as well?

I don't know where the problem with the icon comes from. It works for me in simulator. Try renaming any other icon to edit_n.png, maybe a typo. (maybe mine ? -old3.deb should work correctly). If not, the problem has to be solved with the icons in ~/.yellownotes.

sethkha, you're the man! old3.deb works great for me, thanks again. The problem with the icon seemed to be specific to the original edit_n.png file. I was able to replace that icon with a different .png and it works with the older style layout.

it worked for me by just copying the icon in another folder. deleting the edit_n icon from the .yellownotes folder and copying the icon from that other folder back in the
.yellownotes

I'm resurrecting this thread for a question:
is it possible to backup/restore the contents of .yellownotes with the stock backup application? It's quite annoying to reflash, restore your backup, and finding none of your notes.

I don't use the stock backup application. I could imagine that it's nothing more than some command lines, so it could be theoretically possible (clear: I don't know).
I'd recommend to use BackupMenu. This could also save you from reflashing. Or backup ~/.yellownotes manually.

If the files are stored on 32GB emmc then you should not have a problem?
Reflash does not touch that.
Maybe someone can modify this program to store the contents of the notes on the eMMC :D :cool:

Should not be a hard task.. (should?)
