Skype + Bluetooth + Wi-fi interference issues
I recently started using Skype on N900 and everything was fine till i started using skype with bluetooth Nokia BH-102.
When i make skype calls with bluetooth there is lot of noise and call get disconnects after 30secs. Everything works fine when bluetooth is turned off. I have searched all over web including maemo forum, though there is issue mentioned but can't find solution. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks |

Guys any help..

Re: Skype + Bluetooth + Wi-fi interference issues
I wouldn't count on there being a real solution, Wifi and Bluetooth use the same frequency band and share the same aerial in N900. When I get interference problems when listening to music over Bluetooth, switching the Bluetooth off then on again seems to help, but doesn't clear it up completely, my audio always cuts out when connecting to wifi. Maybe switching the Bluetooth off and on again will help enough, I usually manage to listen to internet radio ok, but I've never tried Skype.

Re: Skype + Bluetooth + Wi-fi interference issues
Nokia N97 seems doesn't have the problem while using skype calls over BT.
Should it be a Bug with software of N900? |
Re: Skype + Bluetooth + Wi-fi interference issues
I had this problem since way when in PR1.1
I had a thread about it: http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=43043 Since PR 1.3 BT + Wifi has improved to the point where I am able to talk for about 30 minutes without Skype calls dropping. Also A2DP is flawless as long as I keep the phone on the same side as the earpiece. If it is on the other side, it sometimes cuts out. |

Does it something that has to be done with BT i have? What BT are you using? |
Re: Skype + Bluetooth + Wi-fi interference issues
I have 3:
1. Plantronics Voyager Pro: This one is the best. No crackling noises in A2DP and headset profiles. 2. Plantronics Voyager 520: Okay-ish... crackling noises while using the headset profile (making phone calls). 3. Motorola S805: Pretty decent, limited crackling, beautiful A2DP, but a pain to carry around. Also: Skype is ... moody: Sometimes, it keeps ringing even though I have already started talking, sometimes there other party cannot hear me. I first thought it was my headset, but then I found out it didn't work even without the headset. |
Re: Skype + Bluetooth + Wi-fi interference issues
Thanks for the list of BT's.
When i am with out BT and using skype..i don't find any problem at all.. 9/10 times its good and with BT 10/10 i hear dual tones. Is this common problem across all the mobiles that uses skype or just nokia n900? If it is with nokia i am planning to raise a Bug. There is no point in proudly saying that nokia supports skype with issues and that too after PR 1.3. |
Re: Skype + Bluetooth + Wi-fi interference issues
Is there any handsfree headset (Not Bluetooth) i can use with Nokia N900 till this issue gets resolved.

Not sure if it would help in your case, but it may be worth a try. You could try going into your router's control panel and changing the Wi-Fi channel. Sometimes if 2 devices are set to the same channel it can cause interference. Changing the channel moves them further apart and eliminates it. |
Re: Skype + Bluetooth + Wi-fi interference issues
There are a bunch of bugs related to BT and wifi not working well with each other. There doesn't seem to be anything specifically tied to skype though.
Feel free to raise a bug, but since it is about skype, you might want to raise a parallel bug over at the skype website too. Also: The wired headset works just as well as the speakers... Not totally handsfree, but close enough. Alternatively there are some products out there that have a stereo jack connected to a dongle that does BT. might be worth investigating. |

Thanks stickymick.
I have dual band router..let me try 5Ghz instead of 2.4ghz and update. I will also try your suggestion. |

I'm using two versions of the "same" headset: SonyEricsson HBH-DS970 and HBH-DS980. |
Re: Skype + Bluetooth + Wi-fi interference issues
Seems like everybody is having issues with BT. Does Maemo team knows about this?

I'd like to hope that it was because of those bugs that subsequent PRs incrementally improved the BT + wifi working. But then there's also the fact that Nokia is probably moving on from Maemo, and all these bugs might eventually be a "wont fix". So file a bug, but as always - don't expect quick decisive action - or any action. |

If its happening with other phones also then i will also post in skype forum. |
Re: Skype + Bluetooth + Wi-fi interference issues
My issue with the skype has been resolved for now.
I did couple of things yesterday..So i am not sure what solved my problem. 1) Overclocked my N900 to 750Hz. 2)Got a new Dual Band Gigabit Router (Not sure if this helped) 3) Kept phone close to BT till the call connects (less than 1 feet and on the same side of phone) Skype dual tone (Still ringing when call is already connected) is the only problem now. Assume this is the problem with Skype not Nokia, Thanks everybody for suggestions. |
