The only thing I love more than my phone is this Maemo community where people from all over the world come together to help and advice each other. This is for all the developers out there who are making the experience of N900 better each and everyday. Even Nokia couldn't make apps for it :). Thanks and thanks alot to all devs out there. My special thanks to MuhammadAG, Ammyt and Mido.fayad.
I cant remember more names right now. Add more names to it.

You can use all the caps you want, but I think that Nokia DID essentially leave the N900 for dead. The OP said that the reason it is not dead is the developers, and I agree with that.

So you put in all caps the assertion that N900 is not dead, thus implying that someone in this thread said otherwise, which is not the case.

That's how I interpreted the obnoxious in-your-face giant caps, anyway.

it would be a pretty bad phone without our developers and hackers... but instead, it's a useful device. i only wish nokia cared a little more and didn't leave so much closed-source stuff that stops us from improving it further, and at the same time prevents the android port from using half the hardware.

My only fear is that the developers will at some point leave us stranded on the beach, as some of my favorites have already. Like when Meego devices actually come out. I hope not.

Well said guys, N900 is the best mobile device to date in my opinion and sure many here will agree with me as well. Most of the phone out there are quickly become boring once you learned all the functions of the phone, but N900 is the opposite, once you get to know the phone and its endless capabilities due to openness of the OS, you get more interesting in it and eager to find out what you can do with it next.

As far as I can tell, he seemed to be a developer to me. A quick search that brings his 105 self-started threads, shows that they (the later ones that came up first) are mostly application announcements and guides, and by sampling some, he starts out by talking about writing replacements, so yeah.

When I firstly owned the N900, and after lots of research and stuff, I decided that it'll be my phone that'll last 10 years. I came to a whole new world, I knew nothing about linux, absolutely nothing to the extent that I spent a whole day trying to figure where MyDocs was :D (I was trying to make PSX4ALL bios work). Then I heard of a place called talk.maemo.org, and I saw the help and advice and care and compassion and composure users did to each other, so I joined this great place, and gained a lot of knowledge.
p.s. My ICT Teacher just bought an N900 before yesterday after seeing the great stuff by you legends working on it. :)

i would also like to say thanks to the dev's especially
maego it self cause it lets me change my mac address to an iPhones so i can use clear hotspots for $25 a month unlimited data and skype calling =) ,
presence vnc,
n900FTP,
Networktools,
Filebox,
and almost everything under networking and utl.

Agreed. A big thanks to all the developers. And a special thanks to Qole, whose easy debian opens up an "app market" (translation for the grown ups: Debian package repositories) second to none.

770 owners followed by n8x0 owners know this well. Two things make the situation a bit better. The first is Qt, more specifically QtMobility as it abstracts a lot of the device specific bits. There are still items not covered by QtMobility and items that are only available in new Qt. The second is the Community OBS which will (eventually) allow building applications for Maemo 5, Meego-Harmattan, and Meego. It'd be nice if they add Maemo 4.1 to the OBS so devs have a one stop shop for all platforms.

At that point the main challenge for developers is testing. This'll be a problem for me as my device is a Nokia loaner and once they take it away things will be a bit more difficult to support Maemo 5.

Without doubt , this device and OS without DEVs effort would be worth nothing. But that was actually idea behind wasn't it? It is only shame that didn't grow a bit more.

Some people were asking how to brick N900.
Simple, kill all Devs or at least their attitude.
