[Request] Steam Community app for N900

http://store.steampowered.com/about/

Steam games client community is already on android!

everyone surly knows Steam gaming community!

why isnt there any kind of widget or app to show my status and my friends online,

I request a Steam community client for N900.
I need it.

can someone make one please.

Join the Steam Community
Find someone to play with, meet up with friends, connect with groups of similar interests, and host and join chats, matches, and tournaments.

Chat with your friends while gaming
See when your friends are online or playing games and easily join the same games together. Chat with your buddies, or use your microphone to communicate in any game.

Re: [Request] Steam Community app for N900

Right, so friends have their mobile phones and we talked a bit and came into conclusion that Steam client should be implemented for mobile phones. Not due to games, those are in the future still but for Steam Friends purposes. You could see which friends are online and perhaps agree to play games after work together or similiar while on the train, bus, whatever transportation you use. Perhaps then the features could be expanded in it at the future.

As Steam is now on Apple's OSX, that is very close to Linux itself, it would be propably very easy to do this on the Nokia N900, that runs on Debian Linux itself or with the upcoming MeeGo, that is also based on that. I also have N900 as some of my friends too and it would be very convinient to have Steam on that.

Re: [Request] Steam Community app for N900

My computer crashed a couple days ago, and I had no way of contacting people who only use Steam as a means of communication. A chat client would just let people talk back and forth through the servers without having access to their games. Would anyone else use this?

Re: [Request] Steam Community app for N900

I have friends who are on steam for about 6 hours a day. It would be great if I could contact them over steam. For now, I'm using skype, but steam actually pops messages up in their games and they can chat without alt-tabbing or leaving the game.

Re: [Request] Steam Community app for N900

would love to have my steam friends list so I could chat with my buddies, even when not on my computer or playing games. I suggest making/designing an application for Steam for the MaemoOS. Steam Mobile perhaps.

Hi lolloo, is there anything else you'd like to add.. before we respond?

5 replies to his/her own new post before anyone else. I think lolloo should get some sort of 'one-man forum' accomplishment in steam

Re: [Request] Steam Community app for N900

Raptr has an app for iPhone/iPod Touch which allows you to view when and what video games your friends on Xbox Live, PlayStation Network, Xfire, and Steam are playing. The Raptr IM client for Windows is basically a video game-centric multi-IM client. You can also set custom statuses which would then automatically update on your Raptr page. I wish there was a port of this for Maemo/MeeGo someday but it would probably be too much to ask.

I'd really love to see either a simple stand-alone Steam IM app or a Steam Friends add-on for the VoIP and IM accounts that includes voice calls/conferences. That way, I would be able to merge my Steam contacts with my Facebook, AIM, and Skype contacts.

From the wiki page at least there appears to be a webclient.

Re: [Request] Steam Community app for N900

You need to understand the differences between Open Source and Closed Source. No matter how great the Maemo community is (which it trully is), there is nothing anybody here can do to port a closed source application. Only Steam can do that. It's like asking to port Windows Live Messenger to maemo, only Microsoft could do that since the software *belongs* to them and them only.

Btw, do they have any web clients? The n900 should have no problem displaying javascript and flash based clients, if they exist.

sorry but you are wrong!
STEAM CLIENTS is already on ANDROID and Iphone.

If a steam app would not be possible, how about porting xfire for use on an N900 www.xfire.com

If this could be done, this would make my n900 the ultimate smart phone / internet tablet :D

Re: [Request] Steam Community app for N900

Create essentially a clone of Steam, but for mobile devices.

Integrate the marketplace, cheap games, achievements, and social elements into the mobile gaming experience.

Cost probobly cant get much lower though, the android market is alredy direct to consumer, but becoming the main "go-to" gaming application can probobly really raise the gaming abilities and experience on these phones.

Plus think mini games for your phone that can connect back to your PC version game to improve stats and etc. Similar concept to the console market years ago.

Re: [Request] Steam Community app for N900

In an idea world, "Steam for Mobile" would become a reality, on all known Smartphone OS's; iPhone OS, Android, RIM Blackberry and Symbian S60. So long as at least iPhone and Android are covered, I'll be satisfied, because while Nokia currently has the largest market share in terms of phones, they have the smallest (almost non-existent) applications market, and they're rapidly losing ground to the competitors, as Symbian is dropped by all other handset manufacturers in favour of Android, because every manufacturer except Nokia, Blackberry and Apple have joined the "Open Handset Alliance (OHA)"

So, yeah. I support the idea of a mobile application, for as many OS's that are seen suitable.

Re: [Request] Steam Community app for N900

I'm often away from my computer on days when I have a clan match that night, and so if anyone needs to contact me over steam, they can't until I get home (which is usually only half an hour before the match).

Hence having steam on my N900 would be all kinds of awesome. Couldn't be too difficult, surely. its already on android

It appears the Steam Friends protocol isn't open, but it has been reverse engineered, at least in part.

Re: [Request] Steam Community app for N900

the "android community" didn't develop any steam app, it was actually some hackers that reverse engineered the rest of the protocol, which is encryted.
also, please learn what "port" means, in this context it means to take the source of the program and adapt it.
if you haven't figured it out yet, what you're asking for is very difficult. obviously not impossible, since raptr and that other android app can do it. but unless you can get them to port their own software, or release some info, i really don't think anyone here is gonna be working on this.

so there is about 4 or more steam app in android market, and you think they are ALL BY "SOME" HACKER? SO WHAT?

omg hackers are developers too.

enjoy screenies:

1)Steam friends app

2)SteamCompanion [Beta]

3) SteamMobile
http://img.techpowerup.org/110112/Capture2190.jpg

and the list goes on, but i figure, android developers are more skilled than n900 developers.

N900 is bad when it comes to connecting to outer world! heh

if you dont know what is "outside world", it means anything that has a soul and lives beyond your appartment and your phone.

Re: [Request] Steam Community app for N900

And by the very same definition, beyond the Steam user base, right?

I mean, the "outside" concept...

You know, I'd like this sort of application too. But if someone like you is being such a huge dick, it might drive away people who would be willing to do it.

Of course, this sort of antagonistic, demanding post isn't out of character for you :(

yes thats right - insult the devs you want to do free work for you. Once you reach 1000000 nag posts on the same topic - these guys will bow to your demands and magically produce your app.

SteamCompanion
SteamFriends
SteamMobile
none of these support chat (text or voice)
they just take all the stuff from the website and display it in an app. that's not really so amazing. is that all you wanted?

Yes please, would be enough for me. atleast as a widget.

I don't think I'd spend time writing an app I'd never use unless someone paid me to do it. I use steam but I don't use it enough to really want an app for it. I'd understand if you really just wanted the chat, but I don't really see the point of an app that just allows you to do stuff that is on their web page. Why don't you just leave your computer on and connect to it with remote desktop from the n900? Hopefully some day they open up their protocol or someone that reverse engineered it completes that wiki...
