[ANNOUNCE] TV out control home plugin
1 Attachment(s)
The TV out control home plugin has been written by Ville Syrjälä - I've just packaged his source for Extras. This thread is the "bugtracker" link for the package, so if you experience any problems with this, report your problems here.
Features of the plugin that are not available in the control panel:
The original source can be found in maemo-tvout-control on Gitorious, the original announcement is also available. Maemo package page of maemo-tvout-control |
Re: [ANNOUNCE] TV out control home plugin
Very nice, the N900 needed this!
|
Re: [ANNOUNCE] TV out control home plugin
Someone should make a Control Panel application from this to replace the original application :)
|
Re: [ANNOUNCE] TV out control home plugin
Even i think that a control panel applet of this should be made....Would be much better..
|
Re: [ANNOUNCE] TV out control home plugin
Sure, go ahead and create one - the code is open. I'd have modified the original applet, but it is closed source (click on that link to see the license change request and vote for it). I'd love to see an improved control panel applet (either written from scratch or the original one modified) be included in the Communitu SSU :)

Re: [ANNOUNCE] TV out control home plugin
Is there any hardware for a HD tv out cable that will work on the N900?
Using the TVout cable on my old CRT tv is fine but when i plug in in through a scart plug on my hd the quality seems worse |
Re: [ANNOUNCE] TV out control home plugin
was gonna say about a control panel applet, BEATEN.

Re: [ANNOUNCE] TV out control home plugin
If anyone feels like merging both applets together, here's the clone in Qt, it works fully in the same way the stock applet does.

Re: [ANNOUNCE] TV out control home plugin
This is wonderful. I was tinkering with it, and I discovered that this works only with the "main" display, not with the "cinema" display or anything, so I, for instance, have to do something like this (while PAL is selected in the settings):
"echo ntsc > /sys/devices/platform/omapdss/display1/timings & echo 59,30 > /sys/devices/platform/omapdss/overlay2/position & echo 640,500 > /sys/devices/platform/omapdss/overlay2/output_size" While the film is running (like in Kmplayer and SiB or Mplayer) to make the screen resize. I was also trying to work on how to crop and resize at the same time, but no luck till now. I would love to see anything like that (Vert and Horz resize + crop) in any future improvements of this widget. BTW, I like this as an widget... Its far more accessible this way, for everyday use... |
Re: [ANNOUNCE] TV out control home plugin
The N900 TOTALLY needed this! I was not able to get TV-Out to work here in the States. Anything downloaded or recorded in 16:9 would not play video. I only got sound. I installed the widget, tweaked my settings and viola! Video out!
Gawddam I love this thing and you guys! |
Re: [ANNOUNCE] TV out control home plugin

Re: [ANNOUNCE] TV out control home plugin
Perfect timing! Thanks a ton!

Re: [ANNOUNCE] TV out control home plugin
thp: How to install this widget, any deb file

i write a simple script ( you can find it in Multimedia ) wich can fine tuning the image ( remove black borders. adjust aspect ratio ) using it you will make a idea why large images are not displayed |
Re: [ANNOUNCE] TV out control home plugin
this is a nice little program
one thing i would like to see is a CLONE view option, why: this weekend we was watching video from my N900 on a LCD TV, and i like the function the N900 has when i watch video then i can do everything else on the N900 and the video plays fullscreen on the TV with minor lags depending on what im doing BUT.... in this case i was using my usb wireless mouse (still waiting for BT mouse to show up...) and i would be nice in this case to have a CLONE view because then i could have the controls on the TV for the seek slider etc... and in this case the N900 was only being used to see video, mostly small clips |
Re: [ANNOUNCE] TV out control home plugin
Many thanks,
I'm using the N900 with a pocket projector. The entire screen is filled now. Linux is a wonderful thing! Well done. |
Re: [ANNOUNCE] TV out control home plugin
Is this optimized for 16:9 displays? I ask because I'm outputting 16:9 video to a 4:3 display and I'm getting a very squished output.
Granted, it's better than no output! But when a DVD player shows the same video on the same screen, it is able to get the aspect ratio correct, so I know it's possible. Any way to make adjustments for those of us with old fashioned 4:3 TV sets? :-) |
Re: [ANNOUNCE] TV out control home plugin
this works great!!! thanks so much :D no longer do i need to keep burning cds when watching films at girlfriends :D i can now take the lead and it fits the screen with propper overscan and ratio :p

you must create a file, paste the script and make it executable ( chmod +x ... ) . i assume you know how :p |
Re: [ANNOUNCE] TV out control home plugin
Is there a way to watch TV with the cords and also do stuff on the phone without interrupting the movie?
|
Re: [ANNOUNCE] TV out control home plugin
I've just promoted the widget from Extras-Testing to Extras. It should be available in Application Manager for "normal" users at some point today :)
|
Re: [ANNOUNCE] TV out control home plugin
This application has solved the problem of size occupied widescreen.
Thank you. Is there a possibility of making an application in the settings panel? Po if someone does not want to use Widgets |
Re: [ANNOUNCE] TV out control home plugin
I I just installed the modified FM transmitter deamon from:
http://jacekowski.org/Maemo/FMTXD With the modified file the FM transmitter keeps running when headphones or USB cable is plugged in. I would like to be able to use the TV-out mode together with the FM transmitter, but as soon as I enable the FM transmitter the video output stops over the TV-out cable. I suspect that a TV out daemon on the N900 needs to be modified in a similar way as the FMTXD deamon to ignore certain events (as in the enabling of the FM transmitter). Any ideas on where to start? Surely this can be done. |
Re: [ANNOUNCE] TV out control home plugin
I like Bernards idea.
Could it be possible? Also I would like to know if it's possible to somehow only show video on TV so I keep on working on the phone. |

Re: [ANNOUNCE] TV out control home plugin
@MohammadAG: I see that your code only change gconf key /system/tvout. But who monitor this gconf key and really change Xv/kernel attributes to change format?
|
Re: [ANNOUNCE] TV out control home plugin
Initial version of control panel plugin and status menu plugin is here:
https://gitorious.org/community-ssu/maemo-tvout-control It is based on tvout home plugin but with some changes. Control panel plugin only change gconf keys (/system/tvout_enable, /system/tvout, /system/aspectratio and /system/tvout_scale) and status menu plugin monitor for these changes and use tvout xv attributes for real changing status. Status menu plugin should start with hildon-desktop at startup so it also restore saved gconf values. |
Re: [ANNOUNCE] TV out control home plugin
What a thrill! I'll wait impatiently!
Thank you. |
Re: [ANNOUNCE] TV out control home plugin
Now I fixed all problems in tvout control panel plugin and status menu plugin. I also fixed desktop widget.
Source code is on: https://gitorious.org/community-ssu/maemo-tvout-control Builded deb packages: are now part of Community SSU |

Re: [ANNOUNCE] TV out control home plugin
I think that this is problem with status menu, not with packages. Rebooting device should fix this problem.
|
Re: [ANNOUNCE] TV out control home plugin
reboot did nothing... i unistall and then reinstall the app and works now...but thanks anyway, it is a great app!!!

Re: [ANNOUNCE] TV out control home plugin
For all:
please test control panel plugin, desktop plugin and status menu applet if working with your TV. control panel plugin and desktop plugin should change TV attributes immediately. status menu plugin should be visible ONLY if TV out cable is connected into Nokia N900 and after click on status menu it should open control panel plugin. These plugins will be added into CSSU - so we must be sure that it is working... |
Re: [ANNOUNCE] TV out control home plugin
works fine for me....thanks

Re: [ANNOUNCE] TV out control home plugin
My experience:
- All settings work (on/off, scaling, aspect ratio), and take immediate effect. - I do not see a statusbar plugin appear when plugging in the cable. |
Re: [ANNOUNCE] TV out control home plugin
Statusbar plugin is responsible for all changes (expect pal/ntsc) and is autoloaded when device started. But it should show visible button only when TV out cable is connected.
@ade: If all settings work, statusbar plugin must be initialized. But if it does not show visible button, there is bug. Please run this command when TV out cable is connected and when is disconnected: Code:
$ cat /sys/devices/platform/nokia-av/detect |
