Phone falls into multitask menu?
Is there any way to make it so the phone app doesn't fall into the multitasking menu but actually stays active?
It's not a huge deal but it is a pain, especially when i need to dial in some numbers. |
Re: Phone falls into multitask menu?
I don't understand, could you emphasize what you mean?

Re: Phone falls into multitask menu?
what's the mais problem?
does it crash or doesnt work after you minimaze it? |
Re: Phone falls into multitask menu?
Same happens when you open conversations and then open a new message. when you sended it, and go back you wont go back to the conversations but actually going to the multitask screen. Its indeed anoying and dont understand why nokia made it this way.
Going back with email does not let every screen go back to the multitask but switches back to the previous page. this is how phone and conversations should work. By the way this falling back to multitask screen happens with allot of apps when pushing the previous button. |
Re: Phone falls into multitask menu?
I like multitasking returning after each task. It more modern and more nicer to look at and I can do many things other than just one text at a time. I can send and then quickly go back to another one and send another person text without having to keep pressing back back back back and look through for other task (Ahem FruityPhone, Robodroid)

Re: Phone falls into multitask menu?
i agree with maxximus...
sometimes you need to have 3 or 4 conversations open at the same time. it would be very unpractical if you had to go back to the main conversation screen every time. |
Re: Phone falls into multitask menu?
yes but for example when you call someone up and the call fails you're thrown out of phone app instead of having an option to redial or something
though i doubt much can be done since it's closed source |
Re: Phone falls into multitask menu?
It make perfect sense to have quick switchboard and immediate access to running applications, But it doesn't to keep them all running all the time. Due to resources consumption and battery drain. Because of that some processes if away from screen or in dashboard mode just in some kind of sleep mode.
True multitasking doesn't exist. Its all software emulation of one stream of instructions. It would be silly to let all 16 apps running on full speed on such small screen factor that you are unable to do anything with them. check this out http://www.flaemo.com/test Yes, you can play 9 movies at once and watch them in dashboard mode. But how useful is that?? |
Re: Phone falls into multitask menu?
I guess I was a bit unclear. I mean that when making a phone call, I'll dial (or select a contact, whatever) talk with them, but when I pull the phone away from my face, the phone call is showing up in the multitasking menu (next to other open apps) instead of staying full screen, thus allowing me to have quick access to the dialer, mute button, etc.
Like I said, not a huge deal, but it would be nice to be able to keep it full screen until I push the multitask menu or end the call. |
Re: Phone falls into multitask menu?
hmmm thats not what my phone does... it is still there in full screen when the prox sensor switches it back on

:-) It does good sir. If the human observer cannot see or feel the context switching then no matter how it happens, true multitasking actually does exist. I'd also draw your attention to multiplexers, modems, and various other forms of data encoding techniques which definitely have many parallels. |
Re: Phone falls into multitask menu?
maximus you dont make any sence now! on the top right you have the back button and on the top left the multitask menu button why do both buttons go to the multitask?
Well i dont really care. most of the system is made by people who dont have any idea of what they were doing and what the normal consumer wants. You guys are so in love with your n900's that you get blind by these things. Things that the average user like me do see. I have never seen a system that closes an sms conversation and does not go back to the main app but instead goes to the multitask screen. Especially NOT when there are no more open windows or conversations! Im really sorry to say but you guys are so geek that you are blind to see whats really important in a system. This is also the reason only guys like you are buying this phone. Dont get me wrong, its an awsome device! but these small things all together starting to get on my nerves. I just dont understand why people who built this aren't testing it and listen to the people that are using it. instead of built yet another crap phone (n8) and keep going on, going their own way. doesn't nokia see what is happening? Sorry guys i dont understand... |

I'm not sure it's a case for ARM that widely are used in mobile world. We know about dual cores being already implemented but also we know. That from time that intel or AMD showed their first multi-thread approaches even these days so much software is not using this advantage. And the worst thing is when OS is not using it. Blocking access to this feature. I'm not saying technologically is not there. My wild guess is WebOS, iPhone still using software emulation and managing internal processes/threads. And as a prove I was able to do so in flash. Just for cheating customers is good enough to say yes, it's multitasking, look! But we both knows is not the true multitasking. In fact I will leave this feature like that because is useful from customer point of view. But I'm far away to advertising flaemo as truly multitasking OS. |

Regarding to N900 and Nokia politics there is bunch of threads about that, so is not worth to repeating this over and over again ;) |

However, as any low level programmer can tell you, multitasking does exist, two instructions can happen at once and it's a *ing problem. As for N900, we all multitask because it's way, way easier. This way, if anything happens while I type, so be it. Also, notifications are easy. So it sound, notifications, etc. Otherwise, the core would have to juggle everything and Heaven help you if it cores. My we are far from topic. Split a cab? |
