N900 Lost. Warranty?

If I lost my N900, and it is still under warranty, do I get a new handset?

warranty?!? sigh... ever heard about insurance?

(and thanks to guys who are trying to get these kind of accidents into warranty it is harder for those who really have something that is included into warranty serviced...)

Re: N900 Lost. Warranty?

Warranty doesn't cover negligence, accidents or damage. It only covers manufacturing defects.

Re: N900 Lost. Warranty?

Thanks everybody. I will send my N900 tomorrow for repair under warranty (broken charging port). I just thought of something though... I have overclocked my N900, and most tutorials say that it will void the warranty. My question is, would it still void my warranty even if my issue has nothing to do with overclocking? Thanks for anyone who can help!

well, what do you think?

you are not the guy that can say "it has nothing to do with overclocking"...

doing unauthorized modifications to hardware voids the warranty, and there is no way getting the warranty unvoided by some magical reasoning. please keep in mind that you are trying to deceive nokia if you want to get the device fixed by warranty...

Completely disagree, as after researching, I can proudly say "you are wrong". I still appreciate your help :). But just so you know, if the device is damaged in a way that has nothing to do with overclocking (like the motherboard isnt fried) then the warranty still exists. In fact, I will be getting my phone FIXED in a week or so. Thanks again.

Re: N900 Lost. Warranty?

So somebody lost his N900 and got it replaced by claiming the damage done by overclocking is actually caused by a broken USB port... Would this be the correct summary for this thread?

Re: N900 Lost. Warranty?

he didn't lose it.. he was just asking if warranty covers losing his phone :(

Re: N900 Lost. Warranty?

Maybe the OP was planning on "throwing it away, aka losing it" because the USB port was broken and claiming another on the warranty.

Wow really people?! I am stupid? Thanks for the insult, not that I really care. For all the others who are confused, I was actually just wondering about what warranty actually covers, does it include losing the phone? My other question was that my actual phones charging port got damaged, so I was wondering if overclocking the phone voids the warranty so they can still repair it or not. I dont see how that is confusing, but if it is for you, then just shut up and try not to make an ******* out of yourself. Thanks, :)

Re: N900 Lost. Warranty?

Why would warranty cover losing the phone?
What if you sell your phone to someone, than claim that you lost it. Why would they give you another phone?
Get real, its not the kindergarten anymore. I doubt even insurance companies cover that.

Thanks, I have actually heard that people buy insurance, do this trick, and stuff like that. I do not intend to do this at all, by the way.

I sent my phone back to nokia due to the usb port, and didn't hide the overclocking. He were back fixed with no charges.

Yup I had mines sent to Finland for a repair and I did not hide the overclocking and mines, to was fixed without any questions.

a lot of people here jump on this bandwagon that if your overclock, it voids your warranty it doesn't

Re: N900 Lost. Warranty?

Unfortunately no warranty covers loss. That would be insurance.

Re: N900 Lost. Warranty?

Unfortunatly Nokia isn't NSD, if you get a Powerball from them you got an unlimited lifetime warranty, if at any time you want replacement parts you just have to fill up a request form on their site and in a week or so the parts will arive in the mail..

Well....I'm gonna try and use my words kindly here....but the man who has to go onto a forum and ask if "losing a phone" is covered by warranty is making more of an "ar.se" of himself than anyone else here.

Yeah yeah yeah, don't try and backtrack now. You lost your phone, thought you'd ask on Maemo.org if it's covered by the Warranty, then realised from the comments made by people in this thread that it was a bit of a clown question to ask and now you're trying to style it out lol.

TiagoTiago 2011-02-04 02:38

Re: N900 Lost. Warranty?

Some warranties do cover loosing the product, so it's not all that absurd to ask about whether that is the case with the N900's warranty.

Oright, since you really want to push it, sure, I will waste my time and educate you. First of all, I am a mobile Device Engineer, if you believe it, good, if not, i dont care :). Second, I searched around for people who have had the MICRO (i dont know why people say Mini) Usb issue, and I read a lot. Throughout the reading, I got different answers, I also read stuff about people losing their phones and getting no replacement, then I thought, well technologically, Nokia can validate if the phone has been "lost", and therefore could figure out if the person is lying or not. Under that impression, I titled my post, to see what people would say. Fortunately, the maemo community is GREAT!, but unfortunately, there are people like you. Anyways, Remember the real problem is that my Micro Usb got broken. Thanks for wasting my time again. :)!

could you please show me official statements that hardware modifications don't void warranty?

they just don't probably care because they change the whole circuit board and usb-connector failures are by design (=warranty).

I have had my N900 overclocked for a long time. I didnt take the phone to service, I shipped it. I still have the warranty I got on it, so the phone is repairable, since Nokia has announced that as long as the phone is still under warranty, the micro usb issue will be repaired. (so i guess no, overclocking it doesnt prevent repairing hardware that HAS NOTHING TO DO with overclocking) which was my original question.

so you didn't mention that you have overclocked the device.

lol thats funny.

"1) didn't tell everything"
The next time you drink and drive (if you do), and you get pulled over, make sure you tell the officer "I HAVE BEEN DRINKING" even if he doesnt ask you!
"2) gained profit (got your device fixed)"
It is my right to get the device fixed, as long as it is under warranty, and every piece of information I provided is correct (Everything I asked was answered properly.

So, there you have it. Dont try to outsmart people.

Anyway gomaemo. You are a Mobile Device Engineer eh? Since you told me, I have been totally blown away by your heroism. Wow! You are actually a Mobile Device Engineer?! Can I touch you? You are my hero, for now and for always.

I still think you lost your phone, and you came on here to see if other people had tried to swindle Nokia into giving them another phone.

No, you cannot touch me, and Yes, I probably am your hero, considering the amount of phones I have written software for. And just so you know, I never lost my N900, and this was sent to me a few days ago, from nokia, about my phone:

Your Nokia N900 device, serial number 35**************, was received for repair and is currently in the process of being repaired.

Turnaround time for in-warranty repairs is approximately 7-10 business days.
