Does the new PSP have the "guts" the N9 should?

It looks really powerful and a really smart move by Sony. Not sure why it wont be available until "Holiday" though.

Back to the original question: Is this the specs the N900 successor should have?!

Discuss..:)

Probably because the quadcore A9 isn't out yet.

NOO! we don't want that at all, think about it's release date!

Nr = P x C + 50

Nr = Nokia Release date in days after anouncement
P = number of Prototypes to have hit the bin
C = number of Cores in the device
50 = vast number, minimum delay in days

NO!

18cm are REALLY to big for my pocket! I have enought problems with 4" screens.
I need a mobile computer like the N900. Not a device bigger than a netbook. :)

The successor to the N900 does not need that kind of power unless you plan on using it only for gaming... That quad core setup is a waste of money IMO...

Yep. It has more impressive specs than the prior planned N9 and of course the N900 - at a package that's thinner than the N900. Easily.

Whether or not a phone should have those specs... oh who am I kidding. Hell yeah I want a phone with those specs and the ability to be part of the PlayStation Suite of gaming.

MeeGo will not have this. More than likely not iOS either - since that'll be introducing an app store inside of their app store and they don't like that it seems.

Which... oddly enough, Google pushed out Kongregate for that same reason a week ago - it introduced an app store within their app store. Hmm.

I don't get it, why are you trying to compare those 2 devices ? I don't get it at all

Sony is making a device using linux, an ARM Cortex processor, an SGX graphics chip, front and rear cameras, a built in mic, external speakers, GPS, Wifi, Bluetooth, and an Accelerometer, why would I compare that to an N900 sucessor?

Ok a quad-core device may be a little bit overkill, but I don't want an incremental upgrade to my N900! The next N900 whether it’s the N9 or not must be a "GENERATIONAL" step over its predecessor. If not Nokia may as well forget about trying to compete with the new devices coming to market.

I don't see why this is exciting - I'm sure it's gonna be locked down like the PS3 was.
And just like that, I have absolutely no interest in it.

Now, give me a hand-held with a higher-res 4" screen, full ascii keyboard, dual-core processor and a open OS, and I'll think about it. In the meantime, my N900 isn't going anywhere.

Stores with rows and rows of modern games that are playable on this handheld device... some people actually pay for new games.

I just can't get behind games I played over a decade ago. Memory lane is only so long for me. DOS, Sega Genesis, Super Nintendo, Gameboy Color... even SNK Neo-Geo. I've owned them all, loved them... can rarely say that I miss them to the point I want to relive their past glory on a sub 4" screen for more than 10 minutes a week.

Open OS's are great for work. Not so much for play. Great for emulation of decade old games that I actually had time to play back then and finish... a lot.

I'd say that the OpenPandora is more your style. I'm already about about get rid of my Nintendo DSi and PSP for this.

Re: Does the new PSP have the "guts" the N9 should?

Well, I suppose I'm a special case. My two main games are Team Fortress 2 and Runescape. Of which niether will work right on this new console.

If I want to play a nice game on a hand-held, it's going to have to be something old(and performant) like, say, Legend of Kyrandia. Something without twitch controls.
Even a side-scroller might be fine... But the differencee between a 2d and a 3d sidescroller isn't much :\

Meh. I guess I'm just not a gamer. I find messing with config files and coding applications often more fun than most games.

why compare a handheld gaming device to a mobile phone. ask yourself. is n9 a gaming device?

I graduated high school the year Legend of Kyrandia came out originally.

Let's just say I do not find games from almost 20 years ago all that. Nostalgic, yes. Worth centering my purchase around a device though?

**** no. 1992 was eons ago.

Gamming power can be used for other things besides heavy games, like, watching full HD video on the web, recording high megapixel count videos, smooth fancy screen transitions, editing images at very high resolution, hardcore multitasking and so on.
