PalmOS Emulator .deb pack for the N800. 770 maybe.

2 days, 2 nights is how long it took me to freaking figure this whole thing out....

First of, keyboard is definitely needed until this thing gets some sort of hildonizing done to it to add a drop down menu.
If you are like moi and cannot afford a bluetooth keyboard yet.
Synergy is the next best thing.
Its somewhere on maemo.org.

but I have a working PalmOS Emulator on my N800, for you guys who own a 770 just download the modified ROM&skins pack I up'ed, and that should work fine.
READ the readme files.

To get you started I'm providing all the Files needed, starting with the .debs

FLTK-1.1.7 POSE depends on this package.
Download and install from Xterminal with the command dpkg -i <debpack>

PalmOS Emulator
Download and install from Xterminal with the command dpkg -i <debpack>

ROMS&skins
In this pack you will find 2 folders.
The skins folder containing the m130 and the m505 modified skins.
The ROMS folder containing the m130 4.1 rom and the m505 4.0 rom.
Also README files in both folders.

Pictures of the skins of course.
m130
m505

Video
m130 skin at work....

N800 users installing the .deb packs will provide and icon for POSE in the extras folder...and you life will be easy...

770 users start up pose with Pupniks compiled version of POSE from command line.

thats all I have.....be glad to answer questions.
As for feed back for features, wrong person to ask. Not good at all hildon or anything at that.

Edit:

The debs will install via the Application Manager now.

hardkeys are mapped....figure them out.......
The FULLSCREEN key is the most important, but we are not at fullscreen yet.
so right now its map to another important feature and thats right click.
VOLUME keys are for scrolling up and down.
ENTER is mapped to that center square key, I don't think I have to tell you how whats the keys around it are mapped to.
figure out the rest.

Eleminating the need for a keyboard is still not 100%.
on start up you will need to use a keyboard to right click which is the only time you will need it.

The links are all updated.

The skins are all update also, if you know how to use The GIMP, then I included some .xpf files.
Screw around with them, make your own skins for god sakes..

Great job. With the onscreen keyboard this will become a hit in Nokia-land.

:)

Re: PalmOS Emulator .deb pack for the N800. 770 maybe.

I've just had a quick look at it - the FLTK deb. includes lots of header files (the /usr/include stuff), this won't be needed by the application. I would suggest repackaging it somewhat, and leave only the necessary runtime files. (I'm going to repack my copy of it before I install)

Re: PalmOS Emulator .deb pack for the N800. 770 maybe.

I have alot of work to do to it.....
I figured out keymapping...I have a working binary...but It has some issues.
right now i'm guessing my scratchbox is corrupt.
manage to set the fullscreen key as the right click for mouse. which elimates the use of a keyboard, not fully.
The next release will be a nice one.

Run shedloads of software that doens't run on the N*** series. For me that would be eReader's book reader for the DRM content I bought but can't read.

We've all been screwed over by eReader at one point or another :D . I got over it...

Fortunately my investment's not too big but I won't buy anything more until they support linux/Maemo. Which for some reason appears will be never :(

Send them an angry mail. They probably won't read it, but you'll feel marginally better.

Next time you tell people over and over to read the readme files, please actually INCLUDE them.
Can't figure out the right-click to even get this started.

Not sure what to do with the rom and skin files. I have them unzipped. Any instructions would be a great help. Thanks

sorry about that.....forgot to include them in the new packages I up'ed.

well you do need a keyboard.
or you can install synergy to share your desktop or notebooks keyboard.

actually to make life easier, first time starting POSe do it via command line.

- place the roms in what ever folder you would like.
preferably--> (/home/user/) <--preferably

- place skins folder in /home/user/

- start Terminal and type " pose -rom </location/of/m130.rom or /location/of/m505.rom>" Without the quotes.
If the skins folder is in /home/user/ It will detect it automatically pending on the rom you choose.

- Strongly advice after startup and setup of everything to press the fullscreen key and save the current state. You Will need to type in the name of the file you going to save it as <--(keyboard needed if you choose this route).
But....
A workaround to using the keyboard for saving the state of the emulator is by creating a file, name and give it the extension .psf
When you do press save now, locate the file you created and choose it and it will save to that .psf file.

Other option to all this typing is installing synergy, which was a ***** for me, firewall and router settings.
Or if you have a Bluetooth keyboard..

Interestingly the palm and pocket pc versions haven't been upped in version number for some time and eReader seem to be totally immune to requests from anyone for change - supporting VGA properly for a start.

I'll send them an email about how I don't plan to buy from them ever again. If I see any response, I'll pass the gist of it on.

I didn't get any reply to mine.

But then, using innovative ways of calling them evil sons of b*tches would probably not have encouraged them to reply...

Still, I got that warm, comfy feeling any psychopath will immediately recognize, so I figure I'm ahead...

This is sad :)

1) Buying DRM content. Heh heh heh. Can't read it freely now can ye? Have we learned a lesson?

2) Viewing books on a palm. Mwhaaah! I jiggle with giggles. Books on a 160x160 screen....

Just say "NO" to DRM media. ZDNET says it best. It's CRAP.

Duh, come on.Buy more DRM stuff.Show your support of Digital Restrictions. I guess you're like too much to be bound to some specific device, program, etc and preferring to have a headache when accessing content you're bought?

IMHO an absolutely best thing you can do is to return bought items to seller and request moneyback since you're unable to use things you've bought. Let's them to have headaches instead of you, duh. Imho it is pretty strange when I'm paying money and some *****hole points me which device and software I can use. This is evil and ugly invasion into my privacy IMHO.

You know, you're the second person who felt the need to upbraid me for buying DRM content.

And you know what, whether it's your humble opinion or not, you can shove it.

I share your sentiment.

What those a**holes don't seem to realize is that there are certain authors' work that you cannot find in any non DRM form. I myself am about ready to cave and buy some stuff from Fictionwise.

Is there a Palm OS 5 rom available? Does anyone know?

Ordinarily I try not to snap but really...

And you're right. If the choice is to buy DRM content or not access the content, well that's not really a choice.

I do read stuff from Baen, mainly for that reason - they don't do DRM - but also some of the sci fi authors I like were found by Jim Baen.

Not that I know, it would be interesting to see how the emulator works. I may have a go this weekend.

OS5 is not possible on the 3.5 emulator, unless you do some serious hacking at the source to make it play well with the rom....

4.1 color or greyscale rom is the highest as of now.

All I really want is more screen area so I can see more text when running eReader or Mobipocket.

It is a choice. Some of us refuse to pay for DRM media, we choose free, or non-DRM content and advocate that others do the same.

Some of us also refuse to pay for monopolist operating systems and applications (Hello, M$) and instead choose GPL or freeware. Many of us chose the Nokia tablets for this reason, and we advocate that others do the same.

And I will certainly not donate my free time to customize the PalmOS emulator in order to provide you with a reason to purchase more DRM media.

However, if someone else wants to do the work, I won't stand in their way.

And you're advocacy includes being offensive the people on public forums does it? Do you also wander around glaring at people using iPods?

If I were you I'd stop all personal involvement in advocating GPL or freeware. Your staring eyes, ranting, black and white approach is not the kind of image the open source world needs or wants.

And you can't see the irony in this statement.

Redundant comment. In the freeware/GPL world you don't have the right.

Just a quick explanation in response. No offense intended.

1) No irony anywhere. I'm stating that I'm not going to promote DRM by making extra efforts to assist you in using it. I mention this because I normally try to help people who ask for a feature.

2) I find simultaneous moaning about DRM restrictions and support of DRM media to be ironic and highly amusing.

3) Though I won't give you my programming time, I will give you some free information. "You're" is a contraction of "you are". "Your" indicates possession.

I don't recall asking for help.

Sometimes when people are confronted rudely, as you and one other did, they respond in kind. Have you not realised this yet?

If you had bothered to read the other messages or even ask the question, you would find that I haven't bought any DRM content of any kind for a significant period of time, since well before the N770 came out.

Before that time eReader DRM wasn't an issue because it could be read on both Palm and PocketPC and they were the only real game in town. See, DRM doesn't need to be restrictive if you can access the content on any platform you want. It's only when you can't do that, that it becomes a problem for the end user.

Now, you see you were doing OK there and you felt the need to end it by trying to be condescending and failing miserably.

All I can say, is I hope your programming is better than your english because you're wrong.

Have a nice day and don't forget to include something in the readme about what is and isn't acceptable use.
