HELP! bricked N900 while flashing
well i attempted to flash the custom 5GB emmc, so i read the wiki several times, thought i had it under control. However, after flashing the emmc it rebooted (even though i did not have -R as an option!). now it wont let me flash the rootfs. Ive tried reflashing the emmc with both the 5GB version, and the stock vanilla version. note that ive renamed the .bin files to make the typing easier
VANMMC.bin = RX-51_2009SE_10.2010.13-2.VANILLA_PR_EMMC_MR0_ARM.bin 5GBMMC.bin is the hex edited version of this vanilla emmc above PR13.bin = RX-51_2009SE_20.2010.36-2.002_PR_COMBINED_002_ARM.bin. heres what i get when flashing under XP (n900 is damn near fully charged, i am in purely 32 bit mode, and it finds the device in usb mode and for the most part it works, but it doesnt really flash the rootfs, it goes way too fast. Multiboot is still enabled but it wont boot any of those selections at all. maybe i need to clear the bootloader? would r&d mode help at all? Code:

I can get into backup menu via multiboot. when i FSCK all partitions it gives

i dont have a backup, perhaps i can make one with my other n900?
FWIW, i booted into linux to try to see if it was any different. it does the same thing (hangs after 'Raw data transfer EP found at EP2. Using flashing protocol Mk II.') |

under linux: Flashed emmc removed battery flashed fiasco image worked this time! pretty sure i tried this under windows and it DID NOT work |

You've got BM, so there's a solution!
1. Load your PC into linux and install Gparted (if you don't already have it. 2. Load your into Backupmenu, Plug it in bia USB to your PC. 3. Hit "w" on the n900 for read/write usb mass storage mode. 4. Open up gparted. You should see all of the eMMC partitions - you can then make appropriate changes and be done. 5. Once that's done, flash the rootfs or load an optfs backup image via Backupmenu. Your N900 should work again! |

well im a bit past that but was wondering how i could utilize your strategy for other uses. For example, could i use BM in USB mode to copy entire partitions (without the OS being booted - thus as close to an 'image' as im gonna get?)
can you see rootfs as well from gparted, or just the emmc home and mydocs partitions? |

Just the emmc/home/mydocs.
But you can connect via ssh mode and edit the Rootfs from there - BackupMenu runs off a ramdisk so editing anything is acceptable. |

Thanks a lot for your blog.... your solution has been untill now the closest solution that I tried to fixed my nokia n900 that caught a virus the day before yesterday I have flashed my n900 before without any trouble, but this time im going trought a really hard time, dont know why? the cdm keeps telling me that the device us not recognized usb? i tried like a mention your solution... Repeat every steps a few times already, but in still a little stuck 1.- so... i uninstalled the OVI, PC suit, Software Updater, un case they are making a conflict. 2.- Unistall the cable driver, and run again the cmd, in -i mode to see the conection come up... 3.- with the device manager open, saw a few things: Disk drives show: SD1 Device witch I think is the nokia n900 under flash mode (i think this is the problem) 4.- plug the n900 holding the u, windows new hardware appear, i ignore it as advised. 5.- installed the cable driver that i downloaded from your link, a notice came up from this procedure during install, i ignore it as well, and finished the instalation. all god untill now. 6.- ? Nokia n900 (update mode) appear under network adapter with the question mark... all good untill now. command still in waitting... 7.- i did bought, cancel in one ocacion the windows new hardware windown, and the other time when trought with the offer to find driver... bought times happed the same: looks for NOKIA USB ROOM DRIVER, BUT DOESNT INSTALLLED IT ANYWHARE, but the 2 drivers that get installed are: Nokia BB5 ADL PARENT, AND LOADER OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT.... 8.- for a second the cdm recognizes the device!!!.. and this comes up: usb devoces found at bus bus-0, device address \\.\libus0-0001--0x0421-0x0105 found device rx-51 hardware revision 2101 nolo version 1-4-14 version of 'sw-release': rx-51_2009SE_20.2010.36-2.002_PR_002 Booting device into flash mode suitable usb device not found that is all...... JUST AS I WAS FINISHING!!!... damm..... close.... Am I missing a step? making any mistakes?
