And where is the people from Nokia who worked on Maemo and Meego?
And what do you have to say this time about the shiny future of Meego and Qt?
P.S. I didn't mean to be rude, I know you are just employees. |
Re: And where is Quim Gil?
Get the torches and pitchforks, let's go after Quim!
Kidding. I guess. |
Re: And where is Quim Gil?
He's probably mopping out the saunas and putting up "For Sale" signs somewhere. :P
|
Re: And where is Quim Gil?
Poor guy.
I'm really sorry for all the good developers at Nokia working in Meego, Qt, Linux and so many open source projects. An strategic alliance with MS is the worst scenario for them. |
Re: And where is Quim Gil?
This is unfair - give the guy a break.
He's contributed enormously to the community and is probably just as peed-off as the rest of us. |
Re: And where is Quim Gil?
dev geeks are the last ppl you ask about corporate strategy
i was very amused by everyone here trusting them though - kept my mouth shut why make waves ? you get labelled a troll and a FUDer |
Re: And where is Quim Gil?
I would think Quim has a rather tough day at work today.
Please do not make this any harder on him than it needs to be. It's not his fault Microsoft succeeded in a hostile takeover of Nokia. |
Re: And where is Quim Gil?
No, seriously I'm really sorry for him and all the people working in Meego projects. It's a shame that bad management execution is killing their projects.
Can you imagine that? "Hey guys, format your Linux boxes and install Windows 7 with Visual Studio, tomorrow we will start learning Silverlight". |
Re: And where is Quim Gil?
Don't talk **** about Quim. That guy is probably more broken up about all this than any of us could ever be. He deserves nothing but our sympathy and thanks for everything he's done for us. EVERYTHING.

I'm saying that it's terrible news for him and a lot of people inside Nokia. But he's the face from Nokia to the Maemo/Meego community and he's supposed to explain how's this going to work. If I were him or I was in charge of any project at Nokia I would be really pissed. |
Re: And where is Quim Gil?
Ainīt this guy from Nokia who managed to write pretty long posts where he ended up saying not so much. Marketing kind of guy that keeps on going and going and going and....repeat ;)

Re: And where is Quim Gil?
For most of us, this is 'just' our hobby and software for our gadgets.
For some people here, like Quim, it's his job. Or maybe even more. Please take a second to think and have a bit of consideration when posting in this thread. |

Re: And where is Quim Gil?
It's really unfair to call Quim out by name in your thread title, it comes across to the reader as if you're demanding some kind of explanation from him. I only know him a little from the coding competition and the MeeGo conference but I genuinely believe he has the best interests of Maemo and MeeGo at heart. He doesn't choose the company direction, if he did Nokia would be a much better company imo. Whatever happens I hope he'll not be shifted off into other projects, and that he's given the full support by Nokia to bring the MeeGo project to fruition.

Re: And where is Quim Gil?
Alberto Torres has resigned.

I think he may be more confused than us. Don't make him with more pressure... I think most of us know that he has already did his best.

Re: And where is the people from Nokia who worked on Maemo and Meego?
Will we see the same amount of people leaving Nokia as we have seen in Sun after Oracle's purchase?
Will it be the begin of forking open source projects from Nokia like the mess that we have seen in OpenOffice and other Sun's projects? In fact, I'm more concerned by the future of Qt than Meego. |

However, Nokia gain profit from mobile market. I just afraid the resource for Qt development will be reduced. It may need more power from open source community. |

Trolltech is Nokias concubine, and the Master just got married. This is Qt's Black Friday, no doubt about it. |

Have to check the new MS Europe HQ on my way home. My bus route goes past it.

Re: And where is the people from Nokia who worked on Maemo and Meego?
"wearing my MeeGo shirt"
- A tweet by Quim Gil yesterday. I think this says enough. |

Nothing posted by QGil on this forum since December? I really would like to hear from Quim.

Re: And where is the people from Nokia who worked on Maemo and Meego?
all have been assasinated by Microsoft people!!!!
|
Re: And where is the people from Nokia who worked on Maemo and Meego?
I suspect it was the boards idea the whole time. They wanted WP7, got rid of Olli, headhunted a MS exec for a CEO position, BOOM, one foot in. I DOUBT one person (Elop) is behind all of this. This is just the boards strategy and now all of us think its because of one man.

Feel sorry for you guys. **** the bosses!

Re: And where is the people from Nokia who worked on Maemo and Meego?
Quim,
I think I speak in the name of everyone who had Maemo and MeeGo (and Qt too!) as their favorites in this mobile race, when I say: THANK YOU! You and the guys stood like champs and did the best you could. Respect! /salute |
Re: And where is the people from Nokia who worked on Maemo and Meego?
I feel that something in meego development must have gone completely wrong. But I cannot see what that would be...maybe someone can give us some insight here...

Then it merged with Moblin to be MeeGo. Which meant delays while the infrastructure was being integrated. Then Ari Jaaksi got out and they brought the guy from Palm who probably made them restart designing the UI and polish those rough edges. More delays. Then comes Elop and says "Oh noes! MeeGo is delayed and we have no premium phone; so let's delay even more the launch of premium phones by adopting a platform with only 2 million users worldwide! And while we are it, let's throw the bus over our loyal developers by abandoning Qt! Do it for the lulz!". *sigh* I bet the MeeGo device will be launched before the WP7 one (and it's going to have a crapton more features, for God's sake, S40 has more features than WP7). |
Re: And where is the people from Nokia who worked on Maemo and Meego?
I stay strong and will buy the meego device... and if it is just to show elop that he is wrong!
Who is with me? |

Would have, could have, should have... that's the story around Maemo and now MeeGo.
Mer? Dead. Mer ^2? Dead. MeeGo Harmattan? Dead. The people that worked on this will probably never respond. But it says more about what didn't happen as opposed to what was planned. |

Good luck, Quim. I love you, bro. If things don't work at Nokia, remember, MeeGo is everywhere. Linux for LIFE! |
Re: And where is the people from Nokia who worked on Maemo and Meego?
He lives in California, I wish he could join the Web OS people and keep working on open source.
