Poll: Would you buy a phone running WP7?
Enter your choice everyone, let's get an idea of what the Maemo community thinks.

Re: Would you buy a phone running WP7?
Not even if you paid me to take it.
|
Re: Would you buy a phone running WP7?
Yes.. I would.. .Looking forward to it.
|
Re: Would you buy a phone running WP7?
I was hoping for the XBOX live on MeeGo or Symbian but not a full fledged Windows Phone 7.
Honestly, I am not sure! WebOS/Android - Looks tempting (atleast WebOS) but don't know yet! |
Re: Would you buy a phone running WP7?
Poll's up now, go ahead and vote.

Re: Would you buy a phone running WP7?
No, if I ommit generaly bad experiences with Microsoft operating system, there are still concrete problems with lack of multitasking, file manager, bluetooth file transfers, USB mass storage. Using zune for administration is also problem, I doubt it'd work on Linux.

Re: Poll: Would you buy a phone running WP7?
never ever...

Re: Poll: Would you buy a phone running WP7?
Interesting related poll, a lot of Maemo users are looking at jumping ship to Android:

maybe Android something like LG 2X

Re: Poll: Would you buy a phone running WP7?
I've had an HTC phone before with Windows Mobile OS, and while it wasnt terrible I cant say it was inspiring or something that would make me want to buy another phone with that OS again. Never tried WP7 so cant comment on that one.
If Nokia were to produce another phone with Maemo on it (I know... it wont happen) then I would be interested, cause I do like that OS on my N900, would be happy to use it again. Sad to see Nokia looking so lost and desperate. |
Re: Poll: Would you buy a phone running WP7?
I'll use my N900 till it falls into little pieces... Then see if MeeGo is worth it's salt (but not from Nokia) and if that doesn't work, buy another N900 till there is none to buy or something better comes to market. Nothing in the market attracts me...

You put up this poll on a forum filled with FOSS advocates ? Talk about a biased sample. Why put up the poll in the first place if you know what the outcome is going to be ? Boggles the mind... |
Re: Poll: Would you buy a phone running WP7?
Meego ain't dead - and I bet Meego will outsell the WP7 devices ANY day of the week.
I for one WILL be buying the MEEGO device this year. |
Re: Poll: Would you buy a phone running WP7?
This makes it official, I will never ever buy a Nokia phone again. I am not sure where to look thou. Maybe I'll buy another N900 just to be on the safe side for the upcoming harsh years...

Re: Poll: Would you buy a phone running WP7?
Microsoft pisses me off at every corner, and this is the ONE thing that would have made me say screw Nokia. So they don't want to be a 'Me too!' company, why go with WP7? Oh, because their new CEO is still butt buddies with Microsoft?
I'm rather angry at this, 'cause I was waiting for the MeeGo device. I'm with everyone else here, time to buy a few N900s for backup... slaapliedje |
Re: Poll: Would you buy a phone running WP7?
same here, my n900 will have to die big style before i ditch it, tbh there is nothing out on the market that interests me. The N900 is the best piece of kit i have ever had, the only thing i would like to be able to do is use an audio editor like audacity. i rarely use my pc/laptop since my n900 came along.
like the bit about nokia shares dropping 10 per cent when it was announced, it says it all. i hope nokia supplies all the bits so this forum can keep up with the updates and freeing maemo of bugs and develop it further. |

This is the community forum for one of Nokia's OSes, and the people voting have bought one of Nokia's flagship products...seems like a sensible set of people to poll. |
Re: Poll: Would you buy a phone running WP7?
what will i buy next? Android probably.
i would still prefer to have a Meego device but after today's symphony of unmitigated cretinism i simply don't trust Nokia to execute it competently. Meego no longer a platform = stupid stupid idea! No QT on nokia Win7 phones = stupid stupid idea! how does nokia manage to be this incompetent? |
Re: Poll: Would you buy a phone running WP7?
Android probably..
never thought I would say this but my next phone will be Motorola :o |
Re: Poll: Would you buy a phone running WP7?
Never. RIP Nokia. I'm waiting for Microsoft to buy up Nokia at this point.
|
Re: Poll: Would you buy a phone running WP7?
WP7 and Nokia is a big mistake. I hope that forthcoming Meego device will be so big succes that Nokia can stop using Windows.
|
Re: Poll: Would you buy a phone running WP7?
I'm not going to buy one. Not because WP7 is bad or because I hate Microsoft but because I can't support the lunacy of turning Nokia into Microsoft's manufacturing arm. It's not the Nokia I knew anymore and my protest vote is probably going to Apple. I've always thought Android is uninspiring and didn't really want to support Apple's policies either but maybe it'll be OK once you jailbreak the living **** out of it.
It's also going to be my first non-Nokia phone. |
Re: Poll: Would you buy a phone running WP7?
No actually i don't like WP7 , i don't know how good it is ... not any idea about it ..
So maybe thats a no for now until maybe it gets interesting . :) And i'll stick to Android and Maemo for now . |
Re: Poll: Would you buy a phone running WP7?
I rather dig up my trusty old 3310 than use a WP7. At least I'll have Snake.
|
Re: Poll: Would you buy a phone running WP7?
I'm a video game developper and a geek, now i've got a device like n900 in the end, I wont come to a closed device ( like apple or WP7 ) so i'll wait meego ...
WM7 ? no i won't even looking at this device until they release a sdk which let me using c++ on it If they do, and if the phone give me as freedom as a n900 would do, i would probably consider using this os ( but how likely it will happen ? ) |
Re: Poll: Would you buy a phone running WP7?
Thankfully I have a decent contract on my N900.
I was only playing with a WP7 phone yesterday, and apart from the obvious shortfalls like no copy/paste etc, I really really disliked the interface, and on that basis I'm out I really hope someone else picks up where Nokia is leaving Meego and releases a Meego phone in the next year or so, otherwise it'll be an Android phone for me. I ain't an analyst etc, but selling out to Microsoft like this does strike me as insane verging on suicidal for Nokia. I expected as share of the eco system maps/mail/music etc, but Nokia sticking with symbian, and meego, and bringing the UXs on both bang up to date. Nokia are now going to be nothing more than a boutique OEM - they'll be subcontracted to build iphones next |
Re: Poll: Would you buy a phone running WP7?
I like to dev my own apps, and I have tried and don't like java/android - having had previous experience using Qt - I like the development env on my Nokia N900 and like the way it acts pretty much the same as most linux boxes, but happens to fit in my pocket. I don't care for a smart phone 1 bit, that's not why i bought it.
I'll keep my n900 untill something similar (in terms of open OS and nice SDK and free from proprietary ties) comes along and if it doesn't, well thats sad. The problem i saw with Maemo from an average consumers point of view is that they all seem to think more apps means a better device. I have no interest in 99% of the stupid apps (a huge percentage are not even an "app"!) tat say iPhone has available. So way to go Elop, switch from one platform with few consumer sugar on top apps, to another with few. Oh - and judging by all the dependencies on proprietary systems and plane missing features of WP7, its worse not better than Maemo. What a Flop. That said, Hopefully Nokia will continue the nxx0 line of devices just as it has done for several years - it never has been their main product - probably never will be, but as long as they keep coming i'm happy. Integrating the phone feature into the nxx0 line of device s was the point that finally made me want one. If you look back over the past few years and forget any ambitious plans - WP7 isn't really replacing Maemo/Meego - its merely replacing Symbian, something else I have no care for. |
Re: Poll: Would you buy a phone running WP7?
the WP7 phone UI is useless, its made for a preschooler..
woohoo my phones a big infographic?! |
Re: Poll: Would you buy a phone running WP7?
Is this question for real?
I know that a poll to see the opinion of the people but seriously? Short answer: NO. Grettings. |
Re: Poll: Would you buy a phone running WP7?
I think that nokia is going to do one of the following steps:
1.Nokia will give up meego and use wp7 for their hig-end/expensive smartphones. Symbian will be used for the cheap smartphones. 2.Nokia will use wp7 for a while to get financial better and then use meego for their smartphones. 3.I dont understand why they didnt chose android? its market share is much higher than windows phone 7. |
Re: Poll: Would you buy a phone running WP7?
I am missing the option "I'll buy one if the No-WP7-Suite runs under Linux natively".
But for now I don't think it very likely. I bought an n900 because I like the community here, the FOSS-spirit, and I wanted to benefit from my experiences with the n810. These advantages weight stronger than my disdain for Nokia's fails like Bochum, or fragging diablo and fremantle after supporting them for a year or so. Fortunately I one of those 2year-contract guys. So I won't need to search for a replacement before Fall 2012 - unless the USB-connector fails me as well. icke |

Re: Poll: Would you buy a phone running WP7?
why would nokia choose WP7?! why not android?
It seems to me many more people like the idea of google instead of bing, google maps and all the other cool google features that android has to offer |
Re: Poll: Would you buy a phone running WP7?
My money will go from now on to the company who'd produce a phone with an as much as possible open OS, which does NOT spy on its user.
Preferably this phone should have a HW keyboard. |

I expected to see a majority voting the same. Now that opinion is the visible result of a poll and not just a feeling most of us know we share. |
Re: Poll: Would you buy a phone running WP7?
i think in a site like tmo, most people would avoid such phones. we're biased. we like a device or OS that we can tinker with so we're not exactly mainstream ;)

Re: Poll: Would you buy a phone running WP7?
I stated that if Nokia made a WP7 phone I would buy it. Didn't think it would have happened... but it did.
I like keeping my word. |
Re: Poll: Would you buy a phone running WP7?
never thought it would happen. Anyway, as I have said earlier, WP7+Nokia will be some killer devices :) so yes, I will get the first one with qwerty kb :)

Re: Poll: Would you buy a phone running WP7?
No, I have tried previous windows mobile version... I felt like I was in a cage, very limited, powerless, helpless :(
