What a joke, Maemo has had this for over a year!

This is hilarious, Skype Integration as something new for Nokia??? More proof that Maemo is the forgotten child...

http://conversations.nokia.com/2009/...nokia-devices/

We've had this for over 1 year (probably longer, can't remember if earlier iterations had Skype Integration).

LOL.

So. What did we learn?

Apart from the OP being 2 years late, which OTHER Nokia devices but N900 got Skype?

And why?

back in October 2010 I have used this Barcelona 2009 statement to complain on Skype and Nokia forums about the non existance of Skype integration in the N8. (read no Skype client whatsoever at launch)
What we learn is that those corporate guys are good in inventing PR but molding it into a long term strategy is something else. Somebody must have noticed the N900 proto and decided to make a press release around one of its experimental features

Next time I propose they hold this kind of meeting on a vacant BP oil platform.

Leaving aside the staleness of the news, over a year? Try over 3 instead. Maemo didn't begin with the N900 you know.

How sure are you of this?

I'm quite sure I've used Skype without incident.

Funny, I've used Skype multiple times for lengths on order of 30 minutes or longer. From Japan to places inside and outside of Japan, and from California to places around the US.

Skype works quite well on the N900, and it works well with video chat to boot.

I've used Skype video from my N900 to talk to Moscow from California, does that count?

The N900 has many brilliant points but Skype does not perform as well as say the Iphone.

Will not bring the device down though just because of Skype !.

Check it out. Dustin Hoffman, 'Rain Man,' look retrded, act retrded, not retrded. Counted toothpicks, cheated cards. Autistic, sho'. Not retrded. You know Tom Hanks, 'Forrest Gump.' Slow, yes. Retrded, maybe. Braces on his legs. But he charmed the pants off Nixon and won a ping-pong competition. That ain't retrded. Peter Sellers, "Being There." Infantile, yes. Retrded, no. You went full retrd, man. Never go full retrd. You don't buy that? Ask Sean Penn, 2001, "I Am Sam." Remember? Went full retrd, went home empty handed...

Was talking with a friend in Dongguan for like 40 minutes each time, multiple times. In fact, that's the sole reason I almost kept my N900 before selling it.

I've not had any troubles until the recent Skype 5.x update on Mac OS X - it didn't connect the first time (each time) for me.

maybe it's a user problem...I've used on a weekly basis for over a year calling EU to US with zero problems. Sometimes there is a connection that is not great....but this happens even on a PC.

You are correct, I made a mistake, apologies to all.

Mr maxximuscool, need I remind you that you are not immune from making mistakes, I do remember a thread you started telling us that you "attempted" to defrag your flash memory (excuse the pun, not intended)? In case you forgot, here is a link:

Sorry for interrupting your fun party with your buddies, but your experience with N900 reminds me of Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events. ;)

Talk about irony.
The person who didn't get a famous movie quote directed me to get a life.
