Qtirreco - just how fun is it?
Have you had any fun with this app? This is mine, so far.......
I originally downloaded this app so I didn't have to buy a remote for my canon DSLR... I always have my phone, so why buy hardware I don't need? The other day I was at a popular takeaway restaurant before heading to the airport, as I had a few hours to kill I decided to hang around up stairs and enjoy the air conditioning. The Circle was on TV (for those unfamiliar, it's an Australian morning discussion show). I couldn't have this on the last day of my vacation, so I pulled out my phone and downloaded what appeared to be a generic remote for an LG TV... Previously impossible to change channels as the TV is behind glass. After adding some buttons I was able to do some channel surfing, I came across Gilligan's island and settled. Finding it hard to hear I went ahead and turned up the volume. A puzzled staff member walked past and noticed the channel had been changed, shortly returning with a remote to change it back. Moments after she flicked through the channels to find the god awful Circle, I flicked it back. Becoming frustrated and confused she went too close to the TV for my remote to hit the sensor. She had won the battle... I added some more buttons to my remote. Before you know it the only channel remaining on the TV was the 24hr foreign news station. Before leaving I changed the menu language to Korean and turned the volume to 100%. Oops. |

You just gave me a brilliant idea how to get my revenge at the local McD that pi$$ed me off royally last week. Thanks. :D

Re: Qtirreco - just how fun is it?
Similar topic, different application, so much fun - have you tried TV-B-Gone for the N900? It's a one button application. You press it while facing the TV and in less than a minute the TV in front of you switches off. It works on all TV's in Europe and the US, depending on the setup you have chosen.
How does it work you may ask? It sends +- 200 remote control signals to a TV in the hope that one of them belongs to that TV. It's worked on every TV I have tried. Places you can have fun with this application, with little detection.
Obviously be careful, some people might not see your practical joke as being funny. :D |

Re: Qtirreco - just how fun is it?
Amazing!
Going to wind up my brother-in-law and get some mileage out of this baby! I wonder if it'll work to zap I/R r/c helicopters - the boys at work buzz my office when they know I'm on an important call... |

Lol, I like your style.

Re: Qtirreco - just how fun is it?
I do this in virtually every restaurant I visit. The comedy of flipping a sports-bar panel over to Al-Jazeera English is over 9000.

Re: Qtirreco - just how fun is it?
he he, me and the missus were round her sister's the other night and i was using qtrreco and tvbegone to mess with the cable box and the tv.
took her a while to realise that it was me with my phone! at one point she was blaming the cat for sitting on the remote..... |

Re: Qtirreco - just how fun is it?
I played with Qtirreco at home now. Built me a remote for my HDTV+Receiver. It works, but from more than 2m it requires extremely precise targeting and the N900 has to be held at the same height as the IR receiver. Also my Sony Receiver seems to have slightly better range than the Sony HDTV. I guess N900's emitter isn't the strongest....

Re: Qtirreco - just how fun is it?
How can someone use qtirreco in a restaurant for example? I mean I spent more than half an hour searching to set up qtirreco for my own tv. In a restaurant you need a network connection, and to find out the model of the tv which is difficult...

most tvs have a generic remote nowadays... like my panasonic viera, or the LG tv i spoke about... I just searched for the most generic looking remote for that kind of appliance in this case it was 50PG6000... 50 is probably 50 inches, i usually look for LCD sizes like 32, 42, 46 etc... they aren't specific, but they usually work... I used the LG one to turn off about 13 TVs in JB hifi last Thursday... some either didn't respond or didn't get my signal... |
