How do I delete read-only files?
I just plugged my N900 into my laptop to transfer some photos I took today. While I was there I decided to clean up a bit and I deleted some images.
Now when I look on my phone and go to my photo album, I see a load of read-only files in with my pictures, but it won't let me delete them from the phone. They aren't there when I plug the phone into the laptop. Does anyone know how I can get rid of them? |

Also try checkdisk via pc to check memory.Sometimes disconnecting without eject makes read only error in n900 |

try root umount /home/user/MyDocs fsck.vfat -a /dev/mmcblk0p1 mount /dev/mmcblk0p1 /home/user/MyDocs and then reboot your n900 or try finding those files via filebox if they hidden. |

Re: How do I delete read-only files?
You can try to install filebox and set it to be root and then go to the folder where you got the images and try to delete them.
You can also try to type sudo gainroot and then cd to /home/user/MyDocs/.images (or replace .images with DCIM if itīs pictures taken with the camera and remove with the rm command. Use the command ls to see whats in the directory. |

I don't know where these read-only files actually are, they don't show up in my documents, only when I click "photos" from the main menu and it is set to show all photos. |

Re: How do I delete read-only files?
No I can't.
But I've solved it! I plugged my phone back into the laptop, went to the images folder, went to properties and unchecked the box that said "Attributes->Read-only" Now they aren't there any more. Thankyou for all your helpy, though, guys! :D Edit: No. They're back again. Damnit. |

The little ones that look like a broken thumbnail are the ones I'm trying to get rid of them. When I try to delete, it says "unable to delete", when I try to view details, it says "details not available" and when I try to view the images, it says "Image no longer available". |
Re: How do I delete read-only files?
Ok, I think I've solved it. I took my memory card out, plugged it into my laptop and formatted it. They seem to have gone now.

If the same happens in future then root umount /media/mmc1 fsck.vfat -a /dev/mmcblk1p1 mount /dev/mmcblk1p1 /media/mmc1 no reboot in this case. And also there wasn't need to format it though checkdisk via pc on memory card would have solved that:) |
Re: How do I delete read-only files?
seems not many people are aware of the beauty of scan and fix option in windows.
it gets rid of all dodgy files and bad sectors and puts them in a folder ready for deletion :) |
