N770/800 survey !!!

Hi im getting tired of all the hype about the new firmware and it being delayed [thats what i thought] so i was just wanted to do something different and 1. Ask what you age is [just want to know what the avg. age is and who these produccts appeal to.

2. What device(s) did you have before this. example(palm zire)

3. Why did you buy this device what made it better to you than other devices?
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
For me...
1. I'm 15 years old.

2. Palm zire 72- Palm Lifedrive-n800

3. Larger screen , web cam , Gizmo/skype<soon>, plus open source, and many more.

I've just done all this for Nokia, complete with followup, so I'll not go into details ;-)

Short version: (very) late 20s; 770, Psion netBook/Series 7/Revo/5mx/5, Sony Clie PEG-UX50; Linux/price.

Re: N770/800 survey !!!

1. 40 (still celebrating my birthday week ;-) ...)

2. none. the 770 was the first that i thought was useful and worth its price.

3. i wanted to do quick checks on wikipedia/google for subjects that come up on tv or during a conversation; "read the newspaper" on the toilet; check RSS feeds and mail in bed; watch DVDs on the train. the major thing, though, was that it's was GNU/linux based, which seems the most future proof strategy.

it does all this and much more and i couldn't be more happy with it.

1. 44 today
2. palm z22 - still using; sharp zaurus 5500 and pc1600 - to ebay in few weeks time as promised wife :) ; several palm pilots I .. III, trgpro - gave away
3. friend sent me an article titled 'developers, please fill this blank slate' which got me researching it; would not have made the radar if it didn't run linux (or some unix).

1. 46, going on 13.

2. (more or less in order of appearance) Fujitsu Siemens Stylistic 4120p, Nokia 770, Archos PMA430, Siemens SIMPad SL4, Fujitsu Siemens Stylistic 3400, Newton Messagepad 2100, Newton Messagepad 2100, Psion Series 5MX, Palm IIIc, Psion Series 3a, Success Pocket agenda.

Quite a lot of those have not (yet) been mothballed, mainly because they do their job still well. Especially the Psions and the Newtons, because both take standard AA cells (Newtons need an adapter thingie) and have screens that are virtually indestructable.

3. Screen, Linux, pen input, Linux.

54 years old, but I look much younger, so my wife say's.

Owned every Ipaq manufactured, 4700 my favorite, Dell all models but the X51V was top the line. Also owned the Toshiba's, Sony's and what not. The N800 is excellent.

The device is used only for email/websurfing and streaming.

Palm IIIc, Palm Tungsten(s), Nokia 770, N800

Palms were used mainly for contact information and Calender features but now that this information can be accessible on the Internet with google type apps....

I currently use my Internet Tablets mainly for on the go wi-fi web browsing and Media streaming/control were the promise of increased feature portability is the biggest overall draw. Most recent interest is Maemo Mapper with BT GPS, interested in possibilities with the built in Web-Camera combined with positional information etc

Have success using Canola, Media Streamer, Mplayer, Maemo Mapper,
Like the ability to connect to network PC's and visa-versa using VNC Viewer, Xterm, Hamachi etc

Tried out FM-Radio, Camera and Call Invitation (Video from N800 to user on PC)

Re: N770/800 survey !!!

1. I don't exist outside the internet.
2. HP rx3715, it was really really boring using that thing. I was too poor to buy softwares back then too.
3. Linux is the only reason why i bought this. I could think of a million other pdas that are better, but Linux makes the decision easy.
