N900 AudioBooster

1 Attachment(s)
# This Patch Was created by "SavageD"
# On the 12/11/2011

Warning!
Use this patch at Your Own Risk!

What does it do exactly?

It makes the volume on the N900 slightly louder for the following:

1) Headphones
2) Speakers
3) Calls (phone call volume)
4) tv out

But only when using the Hardware volume keys!

What does each Script do?

AudioBoost.sh: Enchances audio Quality.

RemoveBoost.sh: Removes the AudioBoost.

Instructions:
1) Extract the folder unto the n900. Go to FileBox and make sure you have the Enable Root Option Selected.

2) Navigate to the AudioBooster folder using filebox.

3) Choose the "Open terminal here" option.

4) To use AudioBoost.sh type in this command in xterm: sh AudioBoost.sh

5) To Remove AudioBoost.sh type in: sh RemoveBoost.sh

Many Thanks to Chrome & Mart5.1 for their help....

Re: N900 AudioBooster

Plz note that is different from my BoostN900 patch. Unlike the BoostN900 patch, this one has nothing to do with making battery life & responsiveness better.....or even reducing pulse audio cpu load for that matter.

All it does is make audio quality "better." Infact, If are using my old BoostN900 scripts then I recommend you remove it before using this script audio script.

Yes, very much so. But still try to limit the speaker volume as they are very weak on the n900, >_> trust me...

Yes that is More or less the case, in addition to that the system is louder.

Wow, it is great that you can do that. That means that we can have the benefits of equalization without the CPU hit of a post-process equalizer!

The only problem I see with this is that people have different tastes on what sounds good. That is the advantage of having an equalizer such as that on Someplayer. Could the settings be user modifiable?

Re: N900 AudioBooster

Can you make it so the max volume is safe, but add a status menu widget to activate the extra boost when desired? I sometimes absentmindly play with the volume buttons and would rather not risk accidently leaving it at 11 and risk busting my speakers.....

Re: N900 AudioBooster

I had seen something similar script from you sometimes back. Whats the different between this and that?

Re: N900 AudioBooster

I'd echo Tiago Tiago... I'd love to install it for the improved quality, especially over FM, but I'm not too keen on speaker dynamite!

On a 10 band equalizer what settings are you more likely to pick?:

Re: N900 AudioBooster

I like it, it really does make music sound much better, bass is increased, without losing clarity of the lyrics in songs, overall added richness in sound quality.
A question tho, does it reset back to default quality upon phone restart???

@rm42 C

@Tiago TIago

I have just lowered the speakers further so it no longer has as much of a speaker blowing risk.....which wasn't much to begin with....

@rosh

Re: N900 AudioBooster

I have tested N900 extensively without speaker protection. Sine-waves become well audible above approximately 200hz.

Over the course of time I have fried both speakers, so be extremely careful, and cut out that bass.

Re: N900 AudioBooster

perhaps u can lowered the bass, i can fell so echoes in mostly songs more than 240kbps and below 128 kbps. There so echo, should u fix, too worry screw up the speaker.or perhaps u can copy n86 equalizer.
Sorry for my bad english its not my native language.

the speakers remain protected with this patch, meaning that all parameters used to protect the speakers remain active,

so nothing to worry about, also the volume increase in the speakers aren't very large...probably unhearable to the typical ears.

the original instructions are quite simple , so I don't know whats wrong , but here , even simpler instructions .

download the attachment to your pc , plug the n900 , choose mass storage mode , extract the archive to your n900 .
there should be a new folder caller AudioBooster , inside it there should be two scripts and two folders .

disconnect your n900 from PC
on your n900 open xtreminal and paste the following :

sudo su
cd /home/user/MyDocs/AudioBooster/
sh ./AudioBoost.sh

make sure rootsh or sudser is installed .
---thats all

you need to reboot after installing rootsh for "sudo su" not to ask for a password , if you want to be root right after installing rootsh without rebooting type "root" instead (without quotes of course)

well surely thats new =)

when you start xterminal from the menu , it's already at /home/user/

so you may just do :

cd ./MyDocs/AudioBooster/
then sudo su or root or sudo gainroot , whatever just be root
next sh ./AudioBoost.sh

Wow this really works, its perfect for me now at half full volume....even less maybe. calls are much better thru handset. Bass is greatly improved. All in all this is highly recommended.
