N900 tether on Nook Color problem
anybody using wifi hotspot to tether on their NOOK color?
the NC is rooted and can see adhoc connection . The nook can connect to my n900 but the connection is so slow. Sometimes it doesn't even load at all. My laptop and ipod touch can connect to the n900 via wifi hotspot just fine (getting at least 1mbps). Is there any fix for this? TIA |
Re: N900 tether on Nook Color problem
Which firmware on your Nook (I'm assuming 1.1) and have you tried any other ad hoc wifi connect yet? And I'm also assuming you've used auto-nooter and jumped up to at least Froyo - I'm personally having a prob with Gingerbread, still have a 4gb microSD card with Honeycomb Preview 4 on it.
I've rooted my Nook, use my rooted Captivate as the wifi hotspot, I don't see any slowness. I've unfortunately gotten rid of my N900, but just wondering if you could test anything else. I've noticed that Froyo on the Nook is just plain slow in some areas - browsing one of them. |
Re: N900 tether on Nook Color problem
i've rooted my nook as well, installed froyo 2.2.1 on it. I don't know if its the connections between the n900 and the nook (the wifi connect to home running fine) just the adhoc tethering from n900. I've never had any problem tethering to my ipod or my laptop using adhoc tethering from the n900. Just wasted $12 on Joikuspot. Thought i try it out to see if it work on the nook, now i can't even get the ipod to connect to the joikuspot. I guess i have to download the mobile hotspt back again. Maybe load something else on the nook.

Yeah... JoikuSpot plain sucks.
Strange that you're seeing a slow down though.I wonder if it's anything else that you could factor out - you've said it's speedy on your home router. I'll continue to think on it, but I fear that I'll be of no use. |
Re: N900 tether on Nook Color problem
I have the same issue with my NC. Joikuspot works fine with my iPad though.

Anyways, this quote is from other user in different thread. I'm just posting it here to see if you can help me with it. I got Joikuspot to work. Ipod connected to n900 using joikuspot getting around 2mbps download. a lil faster than mobile hotspot. Nook can connect to n900 using joikuspot, when it can pick up the connection from the n900, it runs real fast but just for like a lil bit then it loads slow , sometimes it stopped loading. anyways, heres a quote from the other user. Originally Posted by Crogge If you have any "stability" issues with your Joiku connection or simply a very slow connection then there is an easy solution: Just run a permanent ping from your N900 to the connected PC/NB, that way the connection "stays alive". It would be even better if we could disable the "WLAN Energy Save Mode" for the Joiku connection, then such a ping wouldn't be required and reaction / speed would be even better. I tested that with my router connection and SSH / SFTP, the speed / reaction difference is huge! The terminal is running so fast and smooth <3 can you show me how to run a permanent ping thing and how to disable the wlan enrgy save mode for the joiku connection? thanks |
Re: N900 tether on Nook Color problem
Ok here's the deal as I see it..
If you want to connect the Nook to the internet via a n900 then I believe the way to go is to use the MobileHotSpot "app" provided by the N900. This is not an easy install so be careful. But I assume it is better than paying for the JokerSpot app. Now if you want the two devices to talk I think the way to start might be to get adb on the N900,, I think perhaps a debian version of it could be put on the n900 then the two devices connected by a physical wire. It might actually be possible to do both at once ... My goal would be to use the nook as a thing for my car. So ideally I'd like to install bluetooth onto the nook then obd ii (car port) to bluetooth then wifi and gps (somehow) over MobileHotSpot and adb. FYI there is also a obd ii to wifi device. Really the issue at hand is that the Nook has better hardware Screen, multi-touch, and Processor wise, the n900 is better in every other way. Especially because Google is such a creepy company. Another choice might be to put Fedora or Ubuntu on the nook and be done with it. |
