information needed
1 Attachment(s)
i hope that those two bars under wifi signals can be seen easily .
i dont remember what's the name of it but after using it for like two weeks what i have realized that the bar on the left shows the ram usage but not sure . and my question is what do the second bar show ? |
Re: information needed
It's called cpumem-applet.
Left-hand bar = CPU usage. Right-hand = Memory http://maemo.org/downloads/product/M...cpumem-applet/ |

and i have noticed another thing that when the memory bar was showing one cube my phone was perfect and when it increased to two cubes i have found my cell acting as if it is under some load . can you tell me which memor it is ? so i can remove unwanted memory . |
Re: information needed
It measures RAM (the volatile type), as opposed to the permanent storage memory (the non-volatile type).

can you be more simple please ? :P |

Re: information needed
AFAIK it shows the used memory as a percentage of the total memory (RAM + swap).
|
Re: information needed
Interesting. I always new they were there and never knew what they were for.

How much more simple can you get? |
Re: information needed
You lot are not exactly being very helpfull to someone who needs a proper explanation !.
This community stands for a lot more than answers like.... More simple? OK - try this... Not very friendly is it !. |
Re: information needed
ok then, YOU take the time to write a mentalist traceur style essay on what RAM is so this person can ignore it and ask further dumb questions.
The first thing I do when somone uses a term or refers to a mechanism that I don't know is quickly look it up. If the guy was asking somthing REALLY complex like some specific differances between ARM assembler and THUMB code that was not really explained anywhere obviously then maybe you would have place to speak. However he was asking what RAM is. RAM. ****ing RAM. Basic computer principle 101. 1. He could have found out faster by typing RAM into the search bar (a net search engine) and ggotten a result far faster than he has spent being insulted here by Jedi and I for being such a recalcitrant noob. 2. STFU abill_troll. |

Seriously, a quick google for a couple of minutes can answer this question far better than I could put into words. I don't have much time for people who expect to be spoon-fed information just because they can't be bothered to engage brain and try and help themselves. |
Re: information needed
@ vi_ Your just a trouble maker it is very obvious, and obviously dont like the truth pointed out to you mr knowitall !!!.

Re: information needed
I guess this forum is changing now for the worst, probably due to the bad treatment from Nokia.

As I've already stated, spoon-feeding does not help anyone. With basic questions such as the OP's, there's stacks and stacks and stacks of info out there - why duplicate here? |
Re: information needed
abill, ebay n900, get an iphone and get happy

Re: information needed
OP (stands for original poster, in case OP doesn't know), RAM stands for Random Access Memory. I don't know the specifics, but it's used to hold temporary information that every program generates when running.
Other than that, while those guys are being blunt, they do have a point: You should get used to looking for basic information (this is like Computer Science 101) such as this by yourself. edit: Here, lots of topics on subject http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special...m+memory&go=Go |

Well I myself consider this post useless.
The poster didn't even bother to look at the name of widget that he installed himself. Is your n900 stolen?:-o |

Re: information needed
It might be his father's phone, I don't know.
Anyways, this discussion has gone off the rails; I'm stepping down from it. |

Re: information needed
Just kidding about the stolen part.
1. Please use search option for searching your question. You didn't even bothered to see the name of the app let alone search on forum. 2.You don't even know RAM. What grade u in? 3.This forum is neither wikipedia nor google that u search for everthing you don't know.Few things you can find yourself |

OP do not listen to any of them.
It's 'memory' of where you have been recently. Might be good to take back the stolen phone >:{ |

Re: information needed
Well, the headline for this thread is almost the least descriptive I've ever seen. (Beaten by "Argghhh!")
If you don't ask precise questions, you tend to pick up junk responses. I think the OP question was already answered ok, though. |
