AT&T buying Tmobile
Now that At&t will own tmobile is there a chance i can finally get 3g on my N900?
|
Re: AT&T buying Tmobile
interesting point, though in the long run i feel this will be bad for those of us who like unlocked phones
2006- 4 nationwide GSM carriers 2012- 1 nationwide GSM carrier |
Re: AT&T buying Tmobile
As a somebody not living in USA and looking at the data prices(compared to country that loves high taxes)) and how the carriers control the phones available this just seems to set the whole situation even more backwards. Tmobile at least had some unique phones and enough of size to at least give a spark of competition to other big carriers.

Re: AT&T buying Tmobile
i have been with at&t for over ten years and i was tired of the limited and overpriced data plans. i was getting ready to switch over to tmobile since i have had my n900 but now i guess i really dont have a choice, i just hope things get better, but that is probably just wishful thinking!

Re: AT&T buying Tmobile
I had Cingular, it turned into AT&T.
My wife had Centennial, it turned into AT&T. We both switched to T-Mobile and now it is turning into AT&T. There is no escaping the evil empire. |
Re: AT&T buying Tmobile
This is bad and shocking and yet people think about some stupid 3G on N900?
Monopoly in wireless sector is bad , the recent news about Vimpelcom buying Wind was not enough ? What the hell is going on people? :( Total domination by 3-4 carriers? |

Re: AT&T buying Tmobile
Regulatory red-tape means nothing will happen for about a year, but this is still very bad. Having only 1 GSM provider in the US will mean those of us who like unlocked phones will have to go with AT&Tmobile in 2012/13. I left AT&T last year for T-mobile and enjoy lower monthly bills and better, MUCH better service all-round. Oh well. All good things....

Re: AT&T buying Tmobile
Left ATT a long time ago because it was expensive and they had horrible service. Have been with Voicestream, which became T-mobile, since about 1998 or 1999. Have had a great voice, text, and data plan for years with t-mobile, with very good coverage and very good customer service. Also had my choice of great unlocked phones for all these years (including my N900). Heard ATT has sucked ever since I left and through their Cingular years. I hope every T-mobile customer jumps ship after the transition and ATT goes broke. Especially after hearing the other day that ATT is trying to strong arm customers who tether by automatically ugrading their contracts.

Re: AT&T buying Tmobile
What wmurpht said, I too left AT&T a long time ago because of their ridiculous prices and lacking services. I've been a happy camper from the day I purchased my unlocked N900, walked into a T-Mobile store and walked out with all-you-can-eat talk/data/text without signing to a contract for far less than what AT&T could provide. If this sorry deal is approved, hopefully AT&T will continue to honor, but I have doubts they will. We shall see.

Re: AT&T buying Tmobile
Chances are there will be no 3g on N900 at all as ATT will likely be looking at using that spectrum for LTE :(

Re: AT&T buying Tmobile
But AT&T says they're doing it to improve quality and coverage! They're a corporation! Corporations are ALWAYS about serving their customers, right? It can ONLY get better the more companies AT&T swallows up. If we're lucky, someday, they'll go back to the good ol' days of the old Bell logo and Bell Telephones name and ye old telephone books will come back into fashion too! :)
Ahhhh the good old days when government wasn't stepping on the neck of large corporations and harming the excellent service, support and cashflow opportunities that a proper monopoly afforded a successfully run company! |
Re: AT&T buying Tmobile
i guess i got my answer. at&t said they will not be using tmobile 3g towers, so all tmobile 3g will be no more!

Re: AT&T buying Tmobile
My previous two providers that got bought out by AT&T only lasted about a year after the announcement. So at least hopefully our N900s will enjoy sweet 3G for another year.

Re: AT&T buying Tmobile
Hopefully this deal will at least improve ATT EDGE coverage, although with the upcoming 4G rollout EDGE may not be a top priority for them.

Re: AT&T buying Tmobile
I only use ATT because of my employer. I got a free phone and plan and use it with impunity. I would otherwise not use ATT

Re: AT&T buying Tmobile
Hopefully a proper successor to the n900 will be around by the time tmobile 3g is gone.

T-Mobile 3G will continue until the merger (err..takeover) is complete and for an unspecified time thereafter. AT&T will need time to get everyone on AT&T-spec phones, probably at least 6-8 months. Actually, I'd be surprised if T-Mo USA 3G is switched off in less than 2 years. So the N900 has quite a while left with 3G and of course 2G will still work. By the time T-Mo's 3G is gone we'll all be wanting LTE units anyway. This is mostly Very Bad News. I've been with Aerial/Voicestream/T-Mobile for a very long time. Always delivered good service at the best price. The only upsides I can see is even better coverage and eventually, a better LTE network than either AT&T or T-Mo could've delivered individually. At increased cost of course. |
Re: AT&T buying Tmobile
Oh my God, so much HATE for AT&T! What is wrong with you people!?!? AT&T is the BEST carrier EVAR! Why can't you just go to a device or a forum that supports YOUR device and carrier instead of ranting on here??? Stop all the hate! CLEAN UP TMO! ;)
